With training camps a little over two months from opening, ESPN put out its first NFL power rankings today and the Redskins rank 14th in a poll of eight voters.
Some observations after looking at the results:
*Most of the voters had the Redskins in the middle of the pack to get the 14.5 average -- 16th, 17th, 14th, 15th, 11th, 10th, 13th and 20th.
*All four NFC East teams are ranked in the top 14 -- Dallas is fourth, the Giants tied for fifth and Philadelphia 13th.
*Four of the top five teams are from the AFC: New England (1), Indianapolis (2), San Diego (3) and Jacksonville (5).
*For some reason, Cleveland ranked ninth.
*The bottom five: St. Louis, Detroit, Kansas City, Miami and Atlanta.
*The Redskins play six games against teams ranked below them in the rankings.
*New England, Indianapolis and the Giants received first-place votes.

Am I the only who thinks the Giants wont make the playoffs. I honestly think they'll be like the bears were last year. Should be a winner, but by the end of the year they'll be lucky to be 8-8.
(and I think 14 for the skins is high, but there are a lot of BAD teams)

The Giants suck. They are lucky they aren't with me in prison or else it would go down real quick.

The Giants could be in for a steep fall. I would rank them third in the NFC East right now, behind Dallas and Philadelphia and just ahead of the Redskins. That's how competitive this division is. What Big Blue fans will forget is that the Giants got hot at the right time -- January. They looked terrible in a Week 15 loss to the Redskins at home.

Prison your in jail how are you gonna watch the games, I love the skins but it could go bad quick

Yeah, the Giants could go 8-8; so could New England. However, the Giants could also go 15-1. They will be a better team than the Super Bowl version. Poor Skins........... they won't be ready for opening night and are clearly the doormat of the NFC East.

Predict 7-9 for Giants this season w/ free agents lost & let down from this past season. I agree w/ the others that they got hot @ the right time this past season.

I'm agreeing with everybody now. Prison -- see last post, you could be right with the Giants taking a fall.
Tim -- you could be right about the Redskins going really bad really quick. With three NFC East games in the first five weeks, it could be tough sledding for Jim Zorn and Co. If they manage a 2-3 record during that stretch (three road Ls, Ws over New Orleans and Al's Rams), they should be giddy. Anything more = ecastic; anything less = in panic mode.

Free agent loss? Your not serious! Mitchell was a great FA pickup, Torbor has been getting splinters on his butt, and only got playing time because of Mathias' injury. We still got the same line thats been producing RBS that been running for over 1000 yards the last couple years, and Eli is limiting his mistakes. Our defense had great players but wack schemes from Tim Lewis, now we got Spags, our defense has been playing like world champs. For the record, Wilson was our only loss but if you don't watch all the giants games then you wouldn't know about our depth on our roster. We will be alright and headed for another 10 win season. We went on the road and beat the best teams the NFL had to offer with the exception of TB. DAL had their best record since Emmit days, GB was crazy this past season with over 10 wins, and need i say anything about the team we beat from NE? Show some respect for a team that plays like a team that got 1 pro-bowler on the squad and a bunch of snubs. Don't be mad at our Manning because he won when he was supposed to. He wasn't a first pick for nothing. He accomplished his mission and will be wanting to get more. Until then, you queers could keep saying we got lucky, and figure out how any teams can get lucky for 4 games! Weirdos!!!

THE GIANTS SUCK ILL GIVE THEM A LITTLE CREDIT FOR WINNING THE SUPERBOWL BUT THEY SUCK AND THE SKINS UNDER CONSERVATIVE JOE HAD A CHANCE TO SWEEP THEM LAST YEAR BUT OUR DAM OFFENSIVE COULDN'T SCORE UNDER HIM

Luv them Skins...But 8-8 is about right for them this year. Without a productive Gen Mgr this team will never be what it once was. A shame.

If Zorn is the real thing it will show but perhaps not until mid-season at best. With a new head coach and coordenators, how much can we really expect this year. The NFL east teams are loaded up and ready so any coach even with years of head coaching experience would have a tough time. With good luck we may hold our own; with bad luck it could get ugly.

ESPN also did mention that the Redskins were ranked 14th mainly because there a lot of unknowns (like every year). This means to me that it won't be an 8-8 year...it will be a 4-12 year or a 12-4 year. Either they can be really good or really bad.

Andrew: I agree with your all-or-nothing prediction ... to a point.
Although I haven't gone game by game yet, the Redskins are currently an average team -- they went 9-8 last year. They could go 10-6 or 6-10, they could go 7-9 or 9-7 ... or they could go 8-8.

Campbell had his best season in college in the west coast offense. Our defense will be top 10 again. The G-men could stumble, and Dallas will find a way to choke in the big ones (again). Philly could be the team to beat in the east. My prediction for the skins...10-6.

Skins will take NYG in 1st game w/out question. Zorn proves worthy choice through first half of the season and will finish 11-5 without any significant injuries. JC will elevate his game and be All-Pro in '08. Watch out for C.Portis who will approach 2000 yards if O-line stays healthy. Reed will continue to try and fill the huge shoes of S.Taylor. Watch for Smooth to get a bunch of interceptions and Big Ben (London F.) to approach 150 tackels... The guy is a machine. Great pick.... D.Brooks! This guy will improve field position dramatically. Cooley will produce again. Moss and Randel El will be much improved over their injury riddled '07.
We need a dominant DE. Jason Taylor??? Come on Danny. Spend the $$ and bring him to DC.
Over and Out.

Skins are the worst team in the NFC EAST.

Roger Smith's latest comment said it best and said it all! Vinny is The Danny's Village Idiot!

What have we done (in the offseason) to improve our team? Two key things we needed to improve on to become true contenders. One: a great pass rusher off of the D-line. Two: A receiver who can be a threat in the redzone. During the offseason we got... none. Can't depend on rookie receivers to become a threat in their first year. We did not get a pass rusher. Not to mention a new offense for a young QB. It takes two to three years to get comfortabe in a new offense. Less points will be scored this year. Also West-Coast offense QB's need to be accurate, Jason is not accurate at all. Don't get bent out of shape, just think about it... I love my skins but, lets keep it real. Peace

Yeah we.., I buy NYG merchandise from NFL shop and a little bit of my $ goes to their salary, so there for.., we.

The 'Skins had a wonderful run, late last year, due primarily to two things.
1. St. Joe
2. Shawn Taylor's demise (and St. Joe's motivational skills regarding the loss).
They are most certainly the WORST in the (NFC) East this season. That is widely accepted.
Like Ryan said, they can win some games - certainly, but anything better that 7-9 will be a minor miracle for the maroon & black coach (with no front office).
