Redskins take TE at No. 48

With their second selection of the second round, the Redskins have drafted USC tight end Fred Davis. Davis, 6-3 1/2, 247 pounds, had 62 catches for the Trojans last season.

The Redskins wanted to address their blocking tight end position although I thought Todd Yoder did a decent job in that role. But his offensive production is impressive considering how many weapons USC possesses.

Taking a tight end this high is interesting.

From all I've read, Davis isn't a blocking back, so perhaps Yoder is still in the cards. This seems to be considered a WCO dual TE move, which made me feel a lot better about using the pick on him.

After seeing Fred's face I have only three words...

Rick
Doc
Walker

Im glad to see freddy went to the NFL I watched freddy play football for many years from little league thru high school, college and now NFL,he's been an alsome player all those years!!! T know his highs school coach Rick Reos and his parents must be very proud. One more thing from what i've seen fred is a blocking TE

I must say I thought this was a curious pick. I'm not even sure he was the best available TE. I think there is only one way to read this. Zorn has seen that Cooley is not really an adequate blocker at the TE position and is really just another big receiver. Look for Cooley to be more of a hybrid receiver/Hback/TE and Davis and Yoder to be traditional TEs. I'll say this. We have gotten a LOT bigger on the edges. We can go with Yoder, Davis, Cooley and Mix and create some matchup problems for the defense.
