Keep up the good work...the other guy is imploding.

George Allen said it best. "Defense wins you championships". Unfortunately, the Skins did virtually nothing of significance on that side of the ball in this draft. I believe that The Danny and Vinny The Village Idiot will rue the day that they did not select Philip Merlng/DE from Clemson in the second round and let The Tuna grab him for Miami. The Tuna knows talent!

All the season ticket holders, fans will continue to watch the Danny/Vinnie show. Sorry.

well if you actually watched the draft, you would've known that miami took merling with the 1st pick of the 2nd round...so that means we couldn't have picked him up...that being said, I still would have liked to see some help on the D-Line

well every teampicked deffensive in the forrst round so the redskins went offensive becouse of that they piccked some of the best receivers in the draft both of them were top20 picks on mock drafts so i say was a good draft for the skins, they didnt went deffense with those selection cause they probalbly werent good deffensives left thunbs up for cerrato

Whatever you say.....

Everyone complained about the lack of big receivers and how we needed that to change...Now everyone is complaining that we actually did it. The only problem with that draft was wasting a sixth round pick on a punter. Also, Colt Brennen probably would have gone to free agency. Yes, I do think that we needed a little more at defensive line but the 2nd round was a success. We may actually finally have a multi-dimensional offense. If I remember correctly our offense has been the big problem over several years.

I understand that everyone wants defensive players and o- linemen, but remember that the d-line and the o-line will have significant opportunities to be addressed near the start of training camp as other clubs continue to trim their rosters and look to cut player salaries. For positions like lb, dt, & de, you can be assurred that there are some in-house contract disputes that we are not yet aware of and at some point we will have the opportunity to pick up a veteran who can help with those holes. Just look at when we got Pete Kendall and randall godfrey, sure they are both old and decrepid, but they were more than serviceable. We have not had the opportunity to develop any good specialty players from the draft in several years. All of our main weapons at rb, and wr are all free agents. Cooley and Campbell are the new era of redskins football and although I like all of our current starters, we need to put our stamp on players that we can use for years to come. In all reality linebackers, and d-linemen can always be found on the free agent market, but as we can see from many presently disgruntled wrs, when a team has a good one, they are overly relectant to let them go.

I learned one thing. It's a lot easier to say you will select the best player available, than to actually do it and get the flak because you didn't address a "need." Vinny said something to the effect that there was no point drafting players who couldn't make the team. I tend to agree. It's one thing to use a six round pick on a slightly injured QB. It's another thing entirely to use a first rounder on a DE coming off sports hernia surgery. Some guys never recover fully from that, eg McNabb.

Brian,

We think a tad differently. Frost was not good. Please go to YouTube and others and dial in the new punter. Guy is awesome and more than worth a #6, assuming he pans out. If he doesn't make it the you ave a point, but I will bet you a 6-pack of Yuengling that he beats Frost out. Cheers, Chuck

Now The Danny and The Vinny can turn their collective brains to acquiring Jason "The Dancer" Taylor from Miami. Seems like a logical path to go down as he is going to be 34 soon and is only scheduled to make $8M this year in Miami and he can give us a year or two. This is simply chump change for The Danny! Hmmm.... seems to me that The Skins had the 21st overall pick in the FIRST ROUND until they excecuted the trade down move. You seem to have conveniently forgot that move!

The draft is essentially a crap-shoot to begin with, so before we get too worked up over who the 'Skins did or didn't pick, it pays to remember that. All they can do is pick the players that appear to have the best chance of being good players in the NFL, rather than drafting for "need". Drafting for "need" only gets everybody's hopes up that a need has actually been filled, only to find out a year or two later that it wasn't filled at all (see "need" picks of the past such as Heath Shuler, Bobby Wilson, Kenard Lang, Rod Gardner, etc., never mind picks after the first round)

I was a bit miffed by the lack of Defensive linemen in the draft, but overall I am happy with the picks of the day. The only thing that would have made this an "A" draft for me would have been picking up Miami DE Calais Campbell or another of the high ranked DE in the second round instead of the Tight End. In my humble opinion, if the second round had been Devon Thomas, Calais Campbell, and Malcolm Kelly, everyone would have been estatic about the 'skins draft. As for the QB, he is a bit of a reach, but at least he would not be needed for a while yet, if ever. He is a project.

Mike, I think you're overlooking something about young Colt Brennen, the QB. If Danny decides in a couple of years to junk the west coast offense and go with the run and shoot, we will have a guy who knows how to run it. All we will have to do is get all new receivers and linemen and we will be ready to remind people of the Warren Moon-led Oilers.

This draft is just like the most recents ones in the past; the front office each year says they are looking for depth on d-line, & just like the past drafts it was ignored.I do not understand drafting another tight end when the skins have one of the best in Cooley already & Yoder is not a bad back up. I guess they will stay w/ Phillip Daniels untill he gets to the point they have to wheel him on the field w/ a hand truck.

last year we couldn't buy a touchdown in the redzone. we have help now. you cant have it both ways.

Hopefully, Jason Campbell can play his way to some sort of respectability this season and stay upright in the process.

As the Snydermen will probably only win half their games in '08 - at best, Campbell then would have some trade value for Bill Cowher, when he takes over the head coaching position in 2009. Perhaps a third rounder? Hopefully a tad better than what they traded young Ramsey for, what a 6th rounder?

Cowher knows the value of defense and will remold the team (yet again) to distance himself from Jim Zorn's "slap-happy" "Pungent Sound" offense.

By that time, hopefully, Zorn will have committed to memory where the "Exits" are at Snydermen Park.

That's harsh Claude. This is a team that came within a couple of turnovers and blown red zone opportunities going 13-3 maybe. Of course, they could have just as easily gone 4-12. I agree with you though. This is the make or break year for Campbell. He's got to show the ability to make plays, avoid turnovers and lead the team. Zorn's toughest decision will be when to pull him and go with Collins.
