A highly-placed Redskins source denied an ESPN report that the team had offered its first-rounder and one of its two third-rounders to Cincinnati for disgruntled Bengals receiver Chad Johnson. The source said the Redskins inquired about Johnson, but never made a firm offer because the Bengals said they wouldn't trade him.
Meanwhile, I blogged yesterday about the Redskins needing to enhance their pass rush and the Chiefs shopping NFL sacks leader Jared Allen. But today, a Redskins source said that the team isn't interested in the 26-year-old defensive end because he could face a 1-year suspension if he commits a third DUI. Allen was suspended for the first two games of 2007 following two DUIs but still led the league with 15.5 sacks.

They aren't interested? At any price? Because he had a DUI? Sheesh. Of course, these are the guys who traded up to get Campbell and who traded the best corner in the league for a used up RB.

AAA -- Okay, I'm not buying they aren't interested either (gotta bargain some, right?), but doesn't CP now hold the Skins' record for rushing yards in a single season? He may not be hitting home runs, and the team hasn't recovered at CB since giving up Bailey, but that's hardly washed up.

I like CP, I do. He's as tough as they come, and I've never seen a better RB at blitz pickup. But let's be honest. He has lost the burst that made him so devastating at Denver. He's not very elusive either, but he's not big enough to be a power back. Now he can't stay healthy either. In truth, he's in the lower half of the league's RBs. Rather than accept this, the team has thrown good money, a lot of it, after bad in extending his contract this year. I wouldn't use the term washed up to describe him, but neither is he an elite back.

AAA: What are you smoking? Yes the Redskins traded to move up and draft Jason Campbell and what's your point? Campbell has done as well as any other young quarterbacks in the NFL, he faced adversity when leadership specifically Gibbs and Saunders could not agree what type of offense to run, then the offensive line was injured half the year as well as the receiving corp. How long did it take for Eli Manning to get to the level he is currently at or Donovan Mcnabb?
Gibbs never figured out how to use CP and CP has been a beast when he has freaking blocking and he is the best blocking running back in the NFL..
Champ Bailey has not done a dam thing in Denver and what have the Bronocs won and when was the last time that they were in the playoffs? He didn't want to be here
I think Jared Allen would be an excellent pick up he ran circles around our best tackle Samuels when we played the Chiefs and got 3 sacks! He probably just isn't sexy enough for Danny but he is young and proven..

Steve,
They traded up for Campbell, as i recall it cost them two first rounders and for what? A guy who still is not a competent NFL QB. The problem is, I don't know if his faults can be corrected. He has a nice arm, but he takes forever to get rid of the ball. They did a study and the one trait all the top QBs had in common was a quick release. Campbell has a long windup, kind of like Byron Leftwich, another guy with a cannon arm but who didn't make it. Campbell also seems to have leadership issues. Everyone could see how the team responded to Todd Collins. It was night and day. Anyway, I really hope he pans out, but the fact is, we wouldn't have made the playoffs last year if he hadn't gotten injured. The whole situation puts Zorn in a tough spot.
As for CP, he still has his moments, but he does not have the burst that all the top backs have. That's why he never breaks a long one. Do you honestly believe if the Skins could trade him back to Denver for Champ, they wouldn't do it in a NY minute?
