The Washington Redskins will open their first year under coach Jim Zorn in the nationally televised NFL Thursday Night opener on Sept. 4 at the New York Giants, an NFL source confirmed last night.
The Giants will be the fifth straight Super Bowl champion to open the defense of its title with the kickoff game at home. The last non-championship team to host the game was the Redskins against the New York Jets in 2003. This will be the Redskins' third primetime opener in six years since they played host to the Minnesota Vikings in the 2006 Monday Night Football opener.
The Associated Press reported that the NFL is considering moving the game's kickoff 90 minutes ahead from its usual 8:30 PM to accomodate the expected acceptance speech of all-but sure Presidental nominee John McCain at the Republican convention that night.

This will be a tough contest. It will also be one that will generate alot of fan comments before and after the game.
New head coach (putting it mildly), new offensive coordinator (putting it mildly), new defensive coach (without d-coordinator experience), a new offensive play book (JC's 6 in seven years?), etc.
I just hope the Redskins play well. I hope that we see constant improvement over the course of the first six to eight games. Mid-point will be a much better indicator of whether or not the Redsins are a good team than the first few games.

I expect the Giants to come out fired up being that this will be their first appearance in front of the home crowd since winning the Super Bowl. I think the Giants will win this game but will struggle to win 7 games next year. I think they'll have a post Super Bowl let down.

Well, as far as the anticipation of the event, I'm somewhat torn.
I think the Giants will spank the Snydermen rather easily. Rather early as well.
The other event of the evening may bring more viewing time for all but the most rabid Snyderfans. We'll finally see who McCain dubs as his right hand man. Will it be a women? Will it be a black women? Perhaps Congolina Rice?
Hopefully, he can find someone in the party that can spell a simple potato? And someone that believes in Bush's War for 100 more years. If that person were say, under 70 years old? That might help too.
