Not only will safety Will Demps not be visiting the Redskins, he won't be playing for them this season. Demps re-signed with the Houston Texans for $4.75 million over two years, three days after it had been reported that he would be the Redskins' first free agent visitor of 2008.
Demps, 28, has started 70 games during his six seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the New York Giants and the Texans.
The Redskins are in the market for a safety in the wake of last November's shooting death of Pro Bowl starter Sean Taylor and the likely departures in free agency of backups Pierson Prioleau and Omar Stoutmire. LaRon Landry, Reed Doughty and Vernon Fox are the only safeties under contract for 2008.
Also, former Redskins running back Earnest Byner, who coached Washington's running backs the last four seasons, is expected to be hired in that same capacity by the Tennessee Titans this week. Byner would replace Sherman Smith, who left Tennessee to become Washington's offensive coordinator last month.

seems like alot of agents are trying to float the skins at suitors this offseason, but there only trying to use it as leverage.

happens every year...the difference is that we havent gone on a spending spree to hide the floaters. its all good.

Danny boy my have finally learned you can not buy a super bowl (free spending on FA), you have to build thru the draft and p/u some free agents (w/out over spending) mould them into a team (Gibbs may not have one the big one, but he set a solid foundation)add a young coach (Zorn) with a modern day offence mind (West Cost "Baby") mixed with some vet. coaches, than you think about a shot at the title. Redskin nation, hang in there, someting fun is about to start(1 to years away), remember you have to learn to crawl before walk (Danny boy is walking! thanks to Gibbs ) and walk before you can run!!!!!!!!!!
or, it could be the same as the last 15 years!
I like to think not!
Peace!

Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm not comfortable leaving Pierson Prioleau and Omar Stoutmire exposed. I would make signing them a priority and continue to foster their development. I'm more than a little tired of watching talented dbs leave the 'Skins and thrive elsewhere.

Omar Stoutmire won't be developed any longer. He's a bum. The only reason to keep him around is in the case of huge emergencies. I agree with you on Prioleau however. He may still have room to improve.

Its sad but I think Washington is trying to come across as a changed organization but I think they realize that this year is a wash. No way Jim Zorn lasts past this year if the skins don't come very close to making the playoffs. His contract is really 3 years $9 million and he is probably keeping the seat warm for Bill Cowher. Everything fits to nicely for the Skins to be satisfied this offseason if they were truly trying to improve this year.
