From the mountain of a salary cap overage of more than $20 million in January, the Redskins have whittled that total down to a relative molehill of $1.2 million with the deadline to be at the $116 million limit at midnight Friday.
The Redskins cleared $6.3 million by redoing the deals of their longest-tenured players, starting offensive tackle Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels.
Now the Redskins just need to redo one more player -- running back Clinton Portis, receiver Santana Moss, quarterback Mark Brunell, defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin and linebacker Marcus Washington are the likeliest targets -- to get below the NFL's mandated cap limit for the start of the free agent signing period on Friday.

I would get rid of Brunell and sign a rookie to replace him.

What's up with Mark Brunell's contract? I've heard from various places that it runs out and isn't in need of restructuring, but rather of structuring, if that makes any sense? Also, if I had my druthers on our next restructure, I'd choose either Portis or Moss due to their age, as I think restructuring Griffin or Washington is a much riskier maneuver as those two players are less likely to earn through PT the base salary transitioned to guaranteed money prorated against the 'Skins cap over the remainder of their contracts.
Great stuff, love the 360, keep up the good work and cheers.

I concur, M. Brunell at his age is not worth this years salary. Release him out right. I believe we will save an estimated $5 million or something around that. ( Keeping T. Collins as a backup at his age is questionable. ) More youth is a good idea, something I've been preaching for along time. We may have a team coming off a playoff year, but, cannot keep up with either New York or Dallas with the present talent. This team in injury prone and aging. So, I like most, will hold my breath again this year and hope for the best... John M.
Please, Mr Snyder, leave your Redskin One in the hanger....
