It looks like Todd Collins has chosen to re-sign with the Redskins instead of reuniting with longtime mentor Al Saunders in St. Louis. Collins, who led the Redskins to the playoffs after he replaced the injured Jason Campbell last December, apparently received a three-year deal.
Rams starter Marc Bulger has missed at least two starts with injuries in three of the past four seasons, but Collins must have been impressed by the Redskins' contract offer and the comfort level he feels with his teammates and new coach Jim Zorn. And apparently Saunders couldn't sway new Rams personnel man Billy Devaney to make a big push for Collins, who hadn't played in almost a decade until his superlative December.
Maybe the fact that the Redskins made the playoffs in two of the past three years while the Rams haven't reached postseason also impacted Collins' thinking. And of course, the 36-year-old Collins can get home to his family in Massachusetts quicker from Dulles Airport than from St. Louis.
