Maybe it was the first rainy day in memory. More likely it was orders from the boss -- assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams -- not to say anything about the fearsome New England Patriots, who play host to the Redskins on Sunday.
Whatever the cause, Washington's defenders would talk about anything except the Patriots. Cornelius Griffin talked about his infant son. Fred Smoot talked about SEC football. Marcus Washington talked about his recovering hamstring.
When Smoot basically gives a no comment on a topic, you know it's a weird day.

Maybe they are trying to seduce the Patriots into looking past them. All the talk has been about Indy vs. NE and which is the best team blah blah blah. The worst thing that any member of the defense could do would be to grab the attention of the Patriots. I doubt the Patriots will take them lightly - the team is too focused - but the team may be thinking that the game will just be like all the others. So, do not say anything that would get the Patriots fired up.

The Skins are the only team Brady has never beatern. I'm sorry, but that's disrespect right there. The Skins must pay!!
Relax, Skins fans, just kidding.
Oh, good news: I heard that if the Skins hold the Pats to under 30pts, Taco Bell will give you all a free taco! Doh!

Hey there are two teams with rosters full of professional athletes who have achieved the highest level of their profession why should the Redskins conceed anything. You all act as if the redskins should not even show up!
If Gibbs lets Saunders call and run the offense we will know the first series that the Redskins ahve the ball. . Hopefully a player, players, or coaches got into Gibbs head and made him see that playing not to lose will not work in this NFL.
Gibbs also does nothing to boost the confidence of his offense by making comments like it will take a miacle for us to win..its ridiculous and as much as I like and admire coach Joe this paranoid coaching and thinking needs to stop now!
Do me a favor and see if you can do some good investigative reporting and find out what happens and who says what during the Redskin halftime and maybe that is the answer as to why the team comes out so flat

I am not saying that the Redskins should not show up. I honestly believe that the Redskins have a shot. Do I think they will win? I believe the defense can slow them down enough, but given the offensive struggles, I do not know if the offense can keep it close. If the offense does not play conservatively and takes shots down the field, I believe the Redskins can pull it off. If we see what we saw against the Cardinals, turn out the lights, because it is over.
