UPDATE: TWT's Sara Carter checks in with hotair.com and provides a few extra tidbits about the case.
Our story on a TB-infected Mexican national crisscrossing the U.S. border has created quite a storm in the blogosphere.
Excellent work uncovering this latest travesty, ladies. But be careful. You know you're not allowed to write about TB and open borders. Someone might threaten to spit on you.
Glenn Reynolds at instapundit.com, under an entry entitled "Homeland Security, Still a Joke:"
I remain surprised that the Democrats haven't made more of an issue out of Homeland Security incompetence.
And Steve Foley at redstate.com surmises, "This interagency cooperation thing is working well for us... no?"

Michelle, the problem isn't one of open borders. Nowhere in the article does it say that the man is here illegally. The problem is 2-fold: (1) Homeland Security incompetence and (2) the deadly consequences of antibiotic abuse.
I'm not sure what we can do about DHS incompetence other than to keep replacing the head of the agency until we get someone who IS competent.
As for antibiotic abuse, we need to do 2 things. The first is a lot more media attention on the problem and its consequences. I am surprised at how many people still don't "get it" that this really is a serious problem. We also need to make it so that affordable health care is available to everyone. I know a lot of people who don't have health insurance and can't afford doctors without it, so they buy antibiotics (either from another country or veterinary antibiotics) and just take them until they feel better without taking the full course of treatment.

Rachel has not read enough of the article. The TB infected MEXICAN NATIONAL is an ILLEGAL ALIEN. THE problem is partially about DHS and ICE incompetence, for sure, but overwhelmingly about ILLEGAL ALIENS, who care not about America's sovereignty! Why do you think Leprosy, Polio, TB, Chagas, etc. are all in the US and all medicine-resistant. It's not the antibiotics. IT's the Illegals! if there's one article that everyone must read, here it is: HOSPITAL TO THE WORLD WELCOMES ILLEGALS & CONTAGIOUS DISEASES: http://www.newswithviews.com/Cosman/madeleine3.htm

Homeland Security is definitely a player in this, but NOT because of incompetence. Not when you have federal judges that prevent them from carrying out their responsibilities because of egalitarian interpretations of the law. The real culprit is congressional incompetence in attempting to force an unacceptable immigration bill on the citizens. They had their chance right after 911 to put together an integrated immigration, Homeland Defense and National Defense bill. Instead, it is an election year, they are paralyzed and their failure to listen is now forcing the issue as always on the states to manage. As far as drug resistant diseases are concerned, one of those countries that openly have antibiotics available for self cures is Mexico. A national healthcare program in the U.S. won't solve the global drug resistant disease problem. The U.N. is going to help either, they are out controlling the weather with carbon credits.

Yes, I do think your opinion is righteous. (So do lots of people). Luckily majority of people are intelligent :).

I’m understanding you, but I’m not agreeing with you. But anyway I’m sorry that I don’t know the right thing to do in that situation
