Cloture vote stirs uproar in conservative blogosphere

What conservative blogger wasn't liveblogging the cloture vote on the immigration bill this morning?

Over at MichelleMalkin.com, her lead story is a liveblog from the Senate floor today.

HotAir launched a video campaign against reviving the bill, calling a vote for cloture equal to one for amnesty, and Allahpundit posted entries live throughout the lunchtime vote.

Even Captain's Quarters updated readers as the votes were unveiled this morning.

The result: a 64-35 vote to bring the bill back to the floor.

The irony: 5 out of 10 Americans stand in opposition while almost 7 out of 10 senators push for "a comprimise."

In the end, what are we, the people supposed to think? Is anyone listening up on The Hill?

Bush is an idiot to lead our nation to this immigration amnesty disaster. I can hardly wait until he is impeached or just leaves office.

I'm heartbroken by the GOP's lack of a spine, and for that matter, the lack of courage on either side to enforce the existing rules and secure our borders. People keep talking about how unrealistic it is to expect that our system can deport 12-20 million lawbreakers. I would have to agree. Instead of pushing for deportation, let's secure the border and severely punish employers that hire illegal residents. Once those that employee are dealt with the cards will fall into place as those here illegally will have no choice but to return to their country of origin on their own dime.

I am truly sad that we are being ignored.

Mitch McConnell will suffer the same fate of Tom Daschle and lose in 08. i emailed Norm Coleman and said senator Al Franken. The bottom line is that in 08 grassroot conservatives will vote out Republican senators that voted with Ted Kennedy amnesty today. Finally the Bush presidency ended today as he chose to support Kennedy amnesty instead of prioritizing on the Iraq war and war on terror. Bush no longer has a conservative base and GOP house will desert him or face defeat. Today was a GOP sellout and betrayal of the conservative base.

It is quite clear that the president, senators are paying attention to their special interest groups. They are not paying attention to the legal american citizens that they represent. I can't believe with all the faxes, phone calls, that they are ignoring us. This is a national security issue. After 9/11 the borders should have been enforced. Illegals are a problem to United States, they are not all working people. They are breaking our laws, and cities are letting the ones that break laws back on their streets to commit more crimes. They could have been prevented if they lock these people up.

Connecting the dots, I learned that terrorists come into the country (as they did in 1986), over-stay their visas, and then when "amnesty" bills are passed, they hop aboard the gravy-train. Too bad the Senators haven't had time to read the 1,000 page bill; worse still, this bill has never gone into committee for review and mark-ups. Yes, all bloggers were live-blogging. We aren't finished yet.

I rely on your coverage for many of my source information. Thanks to Jerry Seper for his tenacious work in the area of illegal aliens streaming across our borders.

The Senators who voted for this nightmare of a bill called immigration (better name amnesty) will live to see the day they are unemployed. Can we impeach them?

Demcorats, Republicans (what is left of Republicans) and Independents will vote against these senator evil men who are all too happy to sell out this country and its people.

We may be as good as Mexico soon. Or some other South American country that is on the edge.

What a mess our so-called president and his treason groups gave us, the end of the American Dream and mighty America to third world in one term.

Hey folks keep up the fight for the Congress must pass this diabolical plot. Mark the traitors in the Senate. We know what this president has done!

Sick of the mess,
ken paul

I am furious that this bill has even gone this far! I guess we were the idiots who elected these even bigger idiots!

SINCE THE PRESIDENT AND CERTAIN LEGISLATORS CHOOSE TO IGNORE THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE WHERE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS CONCERNED, IT IS BECOMING PAINFULLY OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE PROCEEDING ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN GLOBALIST AGENDA. IN THE EYES OF THE COMMON PEOPLE THIS CONSTITUTES TREASON. WE SHOULD TREAT TRAITORS THE SAME WAY THE FOUNDING FATHERS DID. REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO BENEDICT ARNOLD.

I think our Senate is a disgrace over this. No backbone to enforce the laws of this nation, no closing of the borders, no guts to do what is right, and the arrogance to do what THEY want- not what the PEOPLE want. May they all lose in the next election!

It would seem that those who are elected to represent their constituency really represent only themselves and their belief that they're the intellectually elite and not representative of their subservient constituency.

The above being said, an immediate recall petition in all states for any Senator or Congressman who votes for Amnesty in any way shape or form would, perhaps, remind them who they represent and they're mere mortals and not gods. The people who placed them in their exalted position are to be listened to and when the overwhelming majority are against a law, either explain where the majority is wrong or bow to the majorities will.

The President nor the Congress have any credibility on immigration reform because the present laws are not being enforced and we gave reformed these laws in 1965 and 1986!!! Six years after 9/11 we are fighting terrorism all over the world while our Southern border is not secure. Osama could walk into Crawford, Texas and blow up the local cafe. There is little to prevent it happening!!!

Let me see, bush told the American public we have terrorist in the USA that want to kill Americans. And in another sentence he said they are coming through the open mexican borders and yet he refuses to close the borders to protect Americans and their children. Now I don't know that much about politics, but I do know what treason against your fellow citizens is, and what bush and the others are doing is treason and they need to be tried for capital crimes against the American people. They all need to be put into prision immediately to await trail for high treason!

Mexican President Bush is doing a fine job providing 30 Million Mexican citizens with American rights and denying American citizens with their God given rights to resist a government that has lost all sense of "for the people" the American people. Remember the Alamo.

News update: Washington, DC June 26, 2007

It became official today. The U.S. Senate has become the Roman Senate by ignoring the will of the American people. My children and childrens' children will come to recognize this as the day the values of the American people were replaced by greed, lust for power and disregard of the "rule of law."

NO, they are not, and we must trounce them in the next series of elections. It is either going to be bloody defeats in politics or bloody physical defeats on our streets. Terrorism and crime are going to absolutely explode on us...
The executive branch and most of our legislators are more willing to listen to a corrupt Mexican government than their own people. I firmly believe there are drug cartel monies buying our government officials. Nothing else makes sense.
Follow the money. GW is going to go back to his hacienda and be a gentleman rancher while we fight it out in the streets.
I have NEVER been this disgusted with our leadership and we thought Carter was pathetic...

I will not support anyone that votes for this bill. These people we call leaders need to remember who puts them in power. We WILL vote them out for this.

The only way to get these budding George IIIs to listen is to vote every "yes" voting senator out of the senate at reelection time without regard to party affiliation. They need to be reminded that we the people own the country not a bunch of politicians in Washington DC.

Bush and Big Business may buy the Scamnesty into law, but, with Republicans winning many of their elections with a 1/2-point to three-point margin, let us see how well they can continue to win elections without the Conservatives.

I am very thankful for those GOP and Democrat senators, who resisted the blandishments of the White House palace machine, but I am very angered by how readily the pro-Scamnesty GOP senators were to sell the rank-and-file of the Party down the river.

Big Business wants to use Immigration to break the power of the Conservatives and of the American workers.

The Conservatives have always been the best friends the Republican Party has had--but both the Party and Bush have forgotten what side their tortilla is buttered.

Bush, though a Harvard MBA, has run every business he has ever had into the ground--and he is doing the same with the Party's fortunes and future. He demands that we trust him. And why should we: he can't find Bin Laden, he has made a mess of Iraq, and he can't even keep the US supplied with enough flu shots. And if we have a problem with hordes of illegals wandering the Country--most of them entered the US on his watch--with his aiding-and-abetting consent, for which he deserves impeachment.

The bill is a bust--and he knows it. For every promise it makes to solve our Immigration problems, the bill contains at least one provision to cancel that promise. And, just to make sure of that, Reid and Kennedy have already said they are preparing to strip the bill, in inter-House committee, of all Republican amendments the Democrats in the House of Representatives find objectionable. The pro-Scamnesty GOP senators know this and knew it all along: they know how their chamber works. And everyone certainly knows Ted Kennedy--the Hero of Chappaquiddick.

We Conservatives will remember the Kennedy-Bush Scamnesty--and we will remember the senators who flipped us off to kneel before Bush and Big Business.

It is 8 out of 10 not 5 out of ten. Amazing how our elected hacks use polls when they favor their policies, but do not accept the truth when it is against the will of the peoiple. Both my senators followed my desire and voted against it. I will do what ever I can to support primary challenges to all the Republicans that voted for Shamnesty. My number one target is Lindsey Graham. Yes I am one of the loud people that is going to get louder you incompeteant boobs in Washington. I am retired have a good income and plenty of time. I will be your worst nightmare Viva La Revolution

This is just sickening. This is the end of America as we know it. Get ready for a welfare state and higher and higher taxes to pay for it.

I am thankful my two Senators voted NO to this farce of a bill. Congress only lisstens to money talk. Why do they think their ratings are so low!

The American people should rise up and reelect allnew members of Congress. This is a joke!

Who are these people in Congress? Aren't the supposed to represent the views of the people? This bill is an outrage. It's beyond comprehension.

Secure the border. Period. Then and only then should any kind of amnesty, immigration reform, etc. be considered.

Telling the truth about the Hispanic "family oriented", "success driven" values that were are told so much about:

Hispanics have the highest high school drop out rate of all groups. 65%.

Hispanics have the highest illegitimacy rates of
all groups.

What this amnesty bill is doing is creating in the country one more PERMANENT UNDERCLASS with its crime, welfare, poverty, drugs, and gangs.

"WE THE PEOPLE?" I would like to know who the people really are, because no one is listening to the majority here!!!!!

Our Senate representatives have lost touch with "We the People . . .". I, in AZ, have lost faith in both my senators. I'm in touch with many on-line people (through my Yahoo group page) and they are angry, disgusted and frustrated at the Senate's actions. What will it be in case we have to go to war with Iran? Will the Senate's confusion be as it is now? Heaven help us.

Write your representatives and tell them about how upset you are and what you want ... now. Let them know that we will oust all of them and that we are paying attention to how they vote and whether or not they represent us (NOT). It is high time for us to take back our government and make the U.S. strong and safe once more. Also write letters to your media outlets to let them know that you don't appreciate their distortions and left-leaning take on world events. Ask them to be provide credible, balanced reporting and to speak positively about our country and its soldiers. We need to immediately reduce the amount of vituperative, nasty, unfounded political "asassination speech" that goes on every day. It is okay to disagree. It is okay to disagree and debate very loudly. It is NEVER okay to wish someone we have elected was dead simply because you disagree with their politics. That smacks of communist regimes and the Irano-Islamo-fascists ... The reason we are in much of the current mess is that voters (this means you and me) haven't properly tracked the behaviors of their representatives and made sure that these folks knew what we wanted on a daily basis. They read the same narrow news we do -- no wonder they are confused! Write them. Make demands with clear backing. Give them consequences for misbehavior and good behavior. This works with animals and children ... it should work with these people too.

My Senator, Mel Martinez, is way too personally involved in this issue. Despite the scores of his constituents who oppose this measure, the good senator put a personal plea on his website urging support for the bill days before it was pronounced dead again. Martinez's family arrived here in FL legally from Cuba, why he can't bring himself to enforce the same laws his family abided by I cannot understand.

I'll be interested to hear what his GOP challenger says about this urgent issue when he's up for reelection. The fact that he is head of the RNC is extremely disturbing given the damage his amnesty bill will do to the party.
