Pope Benedict XVI just began celebrating Mass at Nationals Park. His assistant removed his golden mitre, and the pope put on his spectacles and began his introduction.

"I'm happy to be with you all in Washington, the District of Columbia," the pope told the packed crowd in the stadium. "May our time together help us to renew the hope and love of our lord Jesus Christ."

CNN just said the pope plans to speak in Spanish to directly address the United States' Latino community. Right now a female reader just began reciting Acts: 2:1-11.
