I'm Irish but work in DC and I was at the ballgame Sunday night and while I'm no fan of Bush (in any way!), I didn't think it was very sporting of people to BOO the American President at what is actually just a sporting event. It's a game and its supposed to be played in good spirit. I don't think its right for kids to hear the elected president of their country being booed at a Baseball game. How do you expect kids to grow up with a sporting attitude if respect isnt even shown to the person highest in the office of the country. Ya I don't like the man but think of the kids and what message it sends to them about sport.

Boo to all yhe libs who cant forget politics long
enough to watch and enjoy a ballgame. There were
many more cheers anyway.

Isn't it ironic to see two symbols of America side by side, and one of which not supported by its citizens? Normally, you would think baseball being a strong component of American culture would go hand-in-hand with the idea of the president, because he is a very strong component of American culture. In other words, wouldn't it make more sense to see positive support for both, especially at the grand opening pitch in the most symbolic American city in the U.S., and for the the baseball team which represents it!

I'm shocked that this is the state in which our country is at, but I'm glad to see people aren't afraid of voicing such strong expressions of opposition to our current president, especially at an American pastime like baseball.

You're kidding, right? This guy has done more damage to the American economy, our international reputation, and and to millions of innocent people around the world than any other person in the past 8 years.

Topping that off, he completely lacks respect for anyone who differs with him on any topic and is normally protected from even having to see or hear disagreement.

My god, that crowd realized they had a rare opportunity to get inside his bubble and they took it. Bravo to them.

What an embarrassment. Here we have one of the greatest days in Nationals history - may it be a long and glorious one - only to have a few knee-jerk losers boo a standing President on national television. They are a disgusting disgrace to all things decent and honorable. Shame.

It is hard to believe that there can be so many people who are blind to what is going on right before their very own eyes. Here we have a President who has every intention to keep America safe and free of terrorism. In the many years before President Bush took office there were instances where America's properties (ships, embassies, buildings) were bombed abroad and nothing was done. When 9/11 happened and the twin towers came down, President Bush was strong enough to say enough is enough and did something about it. He does not waver or change his mind because of any poll or outcry of others. In his own mind and heart he feels strongly about not letting any terrorist act or person get away. He stays the course to see this to the very end and let any death of an american soldier go to waste.
We can let this country become a place where the ACLU or other liberal allow the terrorist to feel safe. I feel all of those who booed the President should be ashamed to do so. We need to stand for the soldiers who are fighting this war and not let the terrorist feel like they are winning the minds and hearts of the American people. We need to cheer the one person that represents all of us and more specifically represents the men and women of the armed forces.
That person who represents them is our President and for that i cheer for him till my last breath.
Thank you, Mr. President we are proud to have you serve this Country so well, God Bless America.

At least he could throw the ball. I seem to remember a president from the recent past that had issues with that.

To the Boo crowd. The way you apparently want things to go, America will eventually be taken over by terrorists and our ball parks will be used for other entertainments, such as the soccer killing fields of Afganistan where crowds cheered as limbs were cut off of those who didn't fit into the "our way or the highway" radicals. For now, you live in a country where you can insult the man who represents the greatest country in the world and not be shot.

Liberals can not tolerate anyone who has different thoughts than they do. They are so set on controlling others that they have lost reality. They say something long enough and believe it as fact. They are a disgrace and make me ashamed for the world to see them represented in this greatest of countries that they are bent on destroying.

His intention is to keep America safe and free of terrorism? Please explain to me what it is exactly that we are doing in Iraq, and how our efforts there have anything to do with preserving freedom here in America. Oh, that's right, it was Saddam and his countrymen that were responsible for 9/11... I forgot. Thank you President Bush, you have done everything possible, and more, to destroy our economy and reputation abroad... but all in the name of freedom; so let me take this opportunity to exercise my freedom of speech, you work so hard to preserve... BOO ON YOU!

"The way you apparently want things to go, America will eventually be taken over by terrorists and our ball parks will be used for other entertainments, such as the soccer killing fields of Afganistan where crowds cheered as limbs were cut off of those who didn't fit into the "our way or the highway" radicals." Yes, you read that corectly.

A Reply to Jose:

While you are correct in saying that this President does not waver or change his mind, it is a sign of weakness when one cannot admit a mistake and change course to correct it. It has been Bush's mistakes that have gotten us to this untenable point in this country and abroad. It is Bush's mistake that is responsible for thousands of deaths to our troops and innocent Iraqi's. And because of Bush's mistakes our economy is tanking thanks to the 800 billion we have borrowed for this war. I applaud the thousands of people that took a stand and boo'd. It is because we care about the troops and don't want to see another life wasted that we boo. You can go on and applaud Bush. That is your right. But maybe you should get your facts straight before you do.

The first few commentators on this string just don't get it. Bush has come to represent everything that is NOT presidential. His policies, his actions, his words....all undermine every facet of the American Dream and what it means to live in a free democracy. The comment...."only to have a few knee-jerk losers boo a standing President on national television...."

That did not sound like a few knee-jerk losers to me. I think Bush deserves every public boo that he gets. He has worked very hard to earn them. Considering he has not appeared in an unscripted, unvetted public location in almost 7 years speaks truth to the ever running illusion the White House trys to carry off on TV and the Press. The man is booed for a reason... If the truth does not matter to you then I suppose you will clap for the guy...

Baseball and Bush. Two "symbols" of America. Both thoroughly corrupted, dishonest and mendacious. One is now "juiced", the other used to be juiced most of the time. The "war" in Iraq is keeping us about as safe as a pulled nipple-piercing at an airport. Next time you take off your shoes at an airport, put your hand over your lapel flag-pin so you can feel more "patriotic". More boos for the ex-boozer.

He deserves every boo and more. And please, stop with the terrorist scare tactics. If you're so frightend by all the talking points that this administration throws at you, go hide under your beds in the fetal position. I also see that the word liberal keeps appearing in these posts. I come from a liberal family of decorated combat veterans (WWII, Vietnam) and if they were alive today, I guarantee you they would have been booing as well.

I'd say the boos are about 4 years too late

Only a smattering of boos for a president who has lied to the American public since DAY 1 in office, who has led us into an unnecessary war of his own making, whose incompetent administration allowed one of our most beloved cities to wash away while leaving its citizens to fend for themselves, who has trampled our Constitution and trashed our civil liberties, helped to wreck our economy while lining the pockets of his oil-company cronies and has reduced the our once great nation to a laughingstock around the world. The man deserves no respect whatsoever and the fans were far kinder than they should have been.

"To the Boo crowd. The way you apparently want things to go, America will eventually be taken over by terrorists . . ."

If that happens, it will only be because this President has stabbed every man, women and child in this country right in the back by protecting those who actually attacked us:

If the people ever actually wrap their minds around this fact, booing crowds will be the least of Pres. Bush's problems.

yes, bush has kept us safe from terrorist attacks, super super safe (except for the one time 3000 people were killed right after his one month vacation). how could he have known? unless he had gotten a presidential daily briefing that specifically said osama bin laden was determined to strike the united states, there's no way he could have been expecting anything. even if two top intelligence analysts went to his vacation ranch to explain the threat in detail, what difference would it have made? he's just the president, so why he should be blamed if he told them "thanks for covering your hind ends, now go," and just because when his attorney general outlined the top ten threats to the u.s. during his first year in office, terrorism didn't even get a mention, there's no need to think he wasn't absolutely doing everything possible to keep us safe. EVERYTHING! and after the government's top terrorism advisor spent the first nine months practically begging for an emergency meeting to deal with the threat of terrorism, one was finally scheduled for the first week of september. right on time, too.

yes, except for that mass slaughter of innocents, the attack on the pentagon and the still-unresolved anthrax case, we haven't been attacked once. according to the scheme of things, any one who has had a hand in such grand failures not only shouldn't be expected to do anything to prevent it, they also cannot be responsible for their failures, nor accept even the slightest blame, and then be sure to not do anything to catch the very man responsible who only grows more powerful every day. medals of freedom all around!

Here's a news flash for Betsy Scott and like-minded right-wingers: this country has ALREADY been taken over by terrorists. Their names are George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Condoleeza Rice.

Boos are not enough. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield, the original 'Axis of Evil' should be in prison.

Hearing baseball fans boo George W. Bush? It's enough to make you a baseball fan.

Guys, let's not get too angry at those who cheered the president. They are only acting on the president's advice. Since 9/11, he has told them that the only sacrifice they have to make is to keep on doing what they always do -- keep shopping, going out, cheering him, etc. Remember, if we don't cheer him, the terrorists win.

What wonderful discussion. It seems to generate a lot of the old "You are either with us or 'agin' us" feelings of post 9/11. This seems to be a mantra. We are all in the "with" column when it comes to the US but we choose to exercise our right to complain about incompetent and corrupt leadership. It is, after all, on of our many rights.

I feel the fans had every right to demonstrate their feelings; they have had little chance to make them known to the president over the past 7 years. Why not take the chance when it comes? This president didn't listen and won't listen; he knows he is right and that he will be proven right in several decades. A few dead-enders (or a few billion) won't make him change his mind.

If I had known he was going to be there i probably would have paid a good $1,000 or more and taken the train down from NYC just so i could personally boo him. The guy rarely has the guts to show his face before the American people so I would have relished the opportunity!!!

Those weren't boos. They were chanting "BOOB!" and "LOOOSER!"

Well, that's where Bushes' 24% were at last night. At the ballgame. Were most or all of you in those high priced seats? Eight hundred each, five and three hundred each. I bet you weren't in the thirty-fives. Sooooo, you guys been raking it in with your warcrime stocks or the oil scams? Yeah, life is good republicans. Going to the ballgame, making the money, watching Fox tv, taking a little break and heading south to play a little golf while the old ball and chain does a little shopping. Yeah lifes good. Oh! I forgot the best perk. Your kids not being shot at or being blown up. Gods gonna get you for praising Dick & George. No more chickenhawk republicans. You're going to have to give up your sons. We're bringing back the draft. No more sitting back spewing garbage about the Democrats. You're gonna start to help carry some of the load.
Hey IrishinDC-- Change the name. Don't tell anyone your Irish. You sound like a guy that sits home and watches soaps allday. Or are you a chick?

Is "Jose" (March 31, 2008 8:02 AM) really Dana Perino doing some nifty PR work?

ALMOST makes me sorry I left in 95. Who was doing the cheering? Bilbo ORiley and his highschool cheerleader buddies Hannity and Limbaugh? Were they still wearing the plaid skirts? They were sooo cute in them!

It's about time Bush ventures out into the reality he has created. He deserves every boo he got and more. That's the rub with you right wing nuts. "He's important,He's the president. so he deserves respect." True Americans know that people must earn respect not buy it. This man has shown more disrespect and disregard for Americans, their country and it's laws as any president before him. They should have made him stay out there longer and get the full humiliation he deserves.

The problem is that this is such a rare occurrence.

The reason it is such a rare occurrence is that for eight years, his handlers have hand-picked his audience and have invited only his cheerleaders (folks who are getting tax cuts and Jesus freaks, e.g).

If he had appeared before more general audiences, we would all be used to the boos by now...

Critical of BOOS!! Get real idiots!! And I mean idiots!

This big idiot at the White House is responsible for the bungling in Iraq. Read about it idiots.

Osama, the culprit who should have long ago been captured or killed, is laughing, has been laughing at this idiot in the White House, who did more to recruit terrorists by his lunacy in Iraq.

That's only the beginning. F'g morons complaining about booing.

To Mr. Sullivan: It is not just libs who are disappointed (at best) with the current President (Chuck Hagel ring a bell?, Mr. McCain's new found love of diplomacy).

As far as taking a break from life: tell that to the the troops on their 3rd tour, to the Bear Stearns rank and file employee without a job or any vestige of a retirement, to the 7 million Americans who lost their health insurance in the last 7 years.

For most Americans, even affording to be AT a baseball game is a challenge. Must be nice to call people names and imply that it is somehow against the law to express our minds? Are you writing from an ivory tower or a ranch in Crawford where our President spent 50% of his time early on. THAT'S RESPECTABLE!
We can't all have blind faith in the decider.

To Mr. NatsNation: 4,000 troops dead in Iraq - no biggie. Encroachment upon our collective rights to warranted searches, free speech, and assembly - no biggie. Seniors choosing between rent, food, and meds - no biggie.

A socially promoted, egotistical, and short-sighted President booed at a baseball game - a war crime?

When a 15 year old figure skater from the Orient speaks better English than our President, something may have gone amiss.

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE BOOS THAT WOULD HAVE COME IF THE STADIUM ANNOUNCER WOULD HAVE SAID,"LADIES AND GENTLEMAN,THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH". HE DID NOT SAY GEORGIES' NAME. WHAT DO YOU THINK? WAS THE ANNOUNCER A DEMOCRAT? WAS HE TOLD BY GEORGIES' KEEPERS NOT TO SAY HIS NAME BECAUSE THEY NEW THE BOOS WOULD BE DEAFENING? OR WAS HE A REPUBLICAN WHO IS JUST ASHAMED TO BELONG TO THE SAME PARTY AS GEORGIE? SOMEBODY GET AN UMPIRE TO MAKE THIS CALL.

I'm just curious as to who those people were that were cheering. What were they cheering? What good has this man done? He's been a complete disaster on all fronts. If I were there, I would have used the opportunity to voice my contempt for the man with a big hearty BOOOOOOOOO!

Bush is a coward. That is the only word for a president who is too afraid to face his own people ...

He did the same thing after the first election when the supreme court elected him. He hid in his limo on the way to the White House as the people protested in the streets. Government of, by, and for the corporate ruling class. That is his motto.

America is in precipitous and permanent decline because of this one man.

Hey, don't feel agrieved you right-wing losers. Little Georgie could still manage his, "Oh golly gee. You-caught-me-with-my-hand-in-the-cookie- jar" smirk. What a little rascal!!!

They are booing because this is their only opportunity to communicate with him. He ignored and ridiculed any dissent right from the start; anyone holding a simple sign of protest is screened out of rallies. All who cautioned that the Iraq invasion would not be a month-long flower-greeted walk in the park was shouted down. Sad that booing is the only way to give him input, and too late to prevent all the devastation he has caused.

Booing is nothing. This disgrace of a POTUS needs to be impeached! He just did his stupid little smirk like always. Can't wait for November! And all you retards that voted for him should be embarrassed and ashamed! And booed, too!

They're not booing him, they're saying "Boo-ush!"

Free speech, booing included, is an American right. Funny how the self-declared uber-patriots always seem to want other people to go and die for those rights in faraway lands, but don't want to let anyone exercise them at home.

Bush hasn't had the guts to appear before a real crowd since pre-2006. He has goons keep ordinary Americans away from his public appearances. Like someone said, these people saw a chance to break through the bubble and they took it. This may be the only time Bush is ever forced to acknowledge that the American people consider him a failure and a disgrace. So three cheers for the booers. Makes me proud to be a Nationals fan.

Wake up people---I've played or watched baseball all my life and I'm 65 years young. As far as I know ANYONE who sets foot inside those foul lines be it umpire, owner, movie star WHOMEVER, is not exempt from being booed. Fans pay very good money to cheer or jeer anyone as they please. And kids learning to respect their president? Let them learn to respect those that do good and resist those who do evil. No exemptions. Even the president of the U.S. must sometimes have to stand naked. I don't think Americans would cheer for any other common war criminal such as George W. Bush.

George W. Bush and comrades in his regime, to a man, have had nothing but contempt for the American people for eight years and he finally got an earful of invective from an electorate ashamed of his leadership. After so many years of corralling those who disagree with him in "free speech zones" it gives me great pleasure to see this undemocratic demagogue subjected to full-throated ridicule in public. He got what he deserved on that ball field. I only wish Cheney and Rumsfeld could have been there too.

I didn't think it was very sporting of people to BOO the American President at what is actually just a sporting event.

Funny, I didn't think it was very sporting of the American President to drag our country down into the murky depths we now inhabit. And anyone who is as incompetent and dishonest as Bush deserves to be booed -- and loudly.

But remember, booing Bush "encourages the enemy!" Go back to Russia instead of trying to turn the US into Russia.

Booing for someone who ran your country into the ground and wasted all your money and thousands of American lives for a lie (weapons of mass destruction) is patriotic. Not booing makes one wonder if a person is nationalistic or just plain uneducated. There is a difference. I think that it is very interesting that some people think that a president is untouchable and just because they are our president means that you have to show respect. My nephew was crushed between two trucks in Iraq during fighting at the ripe old age of 21. Booo. Many Americans were killed, maimed, traumatized and lost their livelihood because they are fighting a war for oil for big corporate America (a.k.a. Halliburton) that was supposed to be for weapons of mass destruction (mwds were never found).
You might want to read the op-ed from two former Congressmen that appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle. In it, you will learn about many bills that were passed to give the president the power of a fascist. In it you will learn about the no-bid contracts given to a subsidiary of Halliburton to build underground detention facilities across America to hold prisoners. In it you will learn about how if you donate money to an organization that at a later time becomes a terrorist organization, you can be held and tried by a secret court with no representation and imprisoned indefinitely. The laws and resolutions are all there to search and you can see for yourself.
Tell the soldier that lost their limb, spouse, home, friends, sanity, etc. that everything is great in America. Tell the citizens that lost their retirement to the Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, etc. big corporate scandals that everything is great in America. Tell the person who is now labeled a domestic terrorist for standing up for their rights for free speech that everything is great in America. Tell the people who have lost their pets or died from contaminated drugs imported from China because we gutted our food safety system to pay for the war that everything is great in America.
We are in Iraq and we will be in Iran for only one reason which is Oil. There are other countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and elsewhere where human atrocities far exceed even the horrors of Sadams regime but we are not there. Why? No oil.
Bush has brought the country and probably the world to the brink of another great depression. In our town, many businesses are already closing due to the housing downturn and consumer spending slowdowns. We have no public library because the federal funding was cut for Iraq. People are not able to afford their medical care and the prescription benefit plan from Medicare is a mess that requires a PhD to understand.
We never seem to have money to help our own people, to feed the hungry, take care of our seniors who built this great nation or to educate our children so that they can grow up and make intelligent decisions to help keep our country strong. Since big corporate America is so focused on profit, they are sending every last job to China, India and elsewhere. Think of what Wal-Mart once was (made in America) and now almost everything there is made in China. Soon, this problem will be self correcting because nobody will be able to afford anything.
You better wake up America and exercise your rights before speaking out against the government becomes a terror attack and you end up in one of Halliburtons underground detention facilities. Finally, if water boarding is not torture, why doesnt Dick Cheney & Bush show us by having it done to them? Being naked

I was actually a little embarrassed when I watched the video clip, not because good ole George got booed but because he didn't seem to care. He continues his wanton destruction of aspects of this nation that others have fought to preserve and protect--our environment, economy, reputation, personal freedoms, etc. etc. etc., and walks out there with that stupid smirk on his face like everything is fine. What really hurts and disturbs is that he BELIEVES every thing is fine and, in his world, I suppose it is. How can one man be so out of touch with the real feelings of the majority of citizens? It is almost like a monarchy---"too bad if you don't like my edicts; I am in charge and you can take it or leave it."
Please, PLEASE don't push for impeachment people!! Do we want to be ruled by Mr. Chaney?
I say good job to those who booed. I wish I could have been there to do it myself! Sure it was a sporting event but it might be the only chance some of those ordinary citizens get to let him have it. And as far as messages being sent to our kids, the messages being sent by Mr. Bush are far more negative than those being sent by a few boos. Jeering is criticism and and exercise of our freedom of speech; if Mr. B. had his way, we wouldn't speak at all--we would just obey.

I stand with Splendid One...

Amen to that...Joyce J Free Speech is practically dead in this country. So why not let him have it a baseball game. Like you said, "Might be the only chance they ever get...) It also goes to show what the man has done to the credibility and the prestige of being Commander in Chief. Peace, Love and Free Speech!

It sickens me that Bush is hugging easter bunnies and throwing balls when there are 4000+ dead American GIs in Iraq - thanks to Bush's lies.

He is the worst president, our country has ever seen! Yet, we knew it 4 years ago, when American's re-elected him (if it wasn;t close enough, he wouldnt be there) Its not BUSH that is an idiot. He is actually pretty smart. It's the idiots who were brainwashed enough to vote for him, who don't make their own decisions, but the decisions that people tell them to make.

I don't fault him. I fault stupid people.
He's doing everything he set out to do. That's smart. not stupid. If he was stupid, he would have made a mistake that got him arrested and tried. I don't see him in prison, so.

the BOO's shouldnt have been for him, but for middle idiot americanS1

I am constantly amazed that anyone would still cheer this president. It has to be a head-in-the-sand thing. No one who gathers info and thinks could ever support such a person. I cried the other day when I read that 50% of our citizens do not even know how many soldiers have died in Iraq. How is this possible? Being a good citizen and patriot is being informed. If our soldiers have the courage to show up for duty the least we can do is PAY ATTENTION.

I just got a job six months ago doing customer service by phone. Some nights I come home in shock at the ignorance in all parts of our country. How did we get here? When did such rampant ignorance become okay? Everyone who thinks they know our citizenry should have to man the phones for eight hours. They would understand why we are in the mess we are in and why Bush got elected and re-elected and most of all they would become as frightened as I am for our country.

At first I thought it was disgraceful that this occured at an event like this, but then I recalled the more than 4,000 Americans and untold Iraqi's who died due to this man's lies.

I not only wish I was there to boo, but to hand him his impeachment papers as well.

This video serves to make a case for the British monarchy. In Britain, the Queen is head of state while the PM is head of government, thus separating the ceremonial roles from the political ones.

The US President tries to wear both hats, so it's hard for the public to distinguish between a fallen political leader and the ceremonial head of state.

It always amazes me that so many people know exactly what's wrong with the country and just what to do about it. Most of them are capable of nothing more than name-calling and put downs and have no idea of what they'r talking about.

Several postings mentioned the elite crowd in attendance at the Nats opening.

When only the privelaged are able to attend a baseball game in WASHINGTON, we really can see how far our middle class has descended!

Could we ever have imagined, back in 1980, that we would one day see the booing of the whiskey-addled son of Reagan's vice president at a baseball game? Could we ever have imagined that Washington would want to have another baseball team after their experience with the Senators?

Next time Bush will have to screen the audience like he has done for the last 7 years....only allow the 'believers'....so much for free speech...

I definitely heard more boos in the beginning; but as he left the field--signifying Bush was outa there--the cheers picked up.

Bush has done more to hurt the US than Osama Bin Laden could do by flying a thousand planes into a thousand buildings. Bush deserved more than just boos. If we had a true democracy, the crowd would have carried his butt out of that ballpark and deposited him in jail where he belongs. As is, we've got a government that we, the people, are afraid of. In a democracy, the government is supposed to be afraid of the people.

I say this in all honesty, Bush was lucky he wasn't on the South Side of Chicago or in Philadelphia. Someone would have tackled him or he may have been struck by a size D battery.
Suggesting the people can't voice their opinion of the leader that we elected is a disgrace.
There is a price to pay for ignorance in America. Giving away good front-row seats to the leader of this disastrous administration is the least of it.
Semper Fi

FREEDOM OF SPEACH is an American right. I'm glad people expressed their opinions (as we've lost our flesh and blood in the war while GWB thinks nothing of it).

He deserved to be booed. Regarding those who try fear tactics and suggests terrorists will now take over our country because someone booed -- gasp -- read your history books. This country started when free thinking people fled OPPRESSION. GWB is an oppressive president. TRUE AMERICANS who are not afraid to voice their valid opinions booed him.

HE is "The Terrorist."

Conservatives can not tolerate anyone who has different thoughts than they do. They are so set on controlling others that they have lost reality. They say something long enough and believe it as fact. They are a disgrace and make me ashamed for the world to see them represented in this greatest of countries that they are bent on destroying.

I think parents booing a president whose administration has been an unmitigated disaster teaches a lesson that lieing, incomptence, arrogance and subverting the Constitution are completely unacceptable behaviors and traits. That appears to me to be a much more valuable lesson to teach than "good sportsmanship". Being polite to a fan in opposing colors is one thing. Starting unnecessary and disatrous wars is quite another.

Troll alert! Wow, all the neocons loaded up this post w/ the booing of the free citizens. But, the boos speak for themselves, and show a rising tide of real democracy, not the spoon fed 'propaganda of the day' opeds.

Actually, booing is part of the 'American pasttime' as much as cheering. Baseball players get it when they deserve it. So, no need to ignorantly say booing has no place at a baseball game.

Please add one more Boo for Boosh for me!

Psst - He's a traitor. Pass it on.

A couple of thoughts:

1) There is debate about the ratio of "boos" to "cheers". If there were 10 fans that cheered for the president THIS paper would have given them microphones and printed their pictures on the front page.

2) If you think the president should be respected "right or wrong" you don't really understand democracy and you probably can't understand baseball either.

To IrishinDC:
Cheney and Bush are usually hiding in front of military or other friendly audiences, so the ballpark is the only chance we get.

I agree. So what if Bush ignored warnings about the 9-11 attack, lied us into an illegal war, authorized warrant-less spying on American citizens, appointed incompetent cronies to crucial government positions, ignored laws passed by Congress, "won" election through concerted efforts to suppress votes, has directly caused the deaths of 100,000 civilians in Iraq, has led the country into the worst recession since the Great Depression, and generally only appears in public in front of pre-screened crowds, booing the man at a baseball game is just rude!

I'm not surprised he was loudly booed. He's deeply despised and rightfully so as the absolute worst president in American history. The fans jumped at the chance to give him a piece of their minds,as it is so rare that he shows up in a setting that hasn't been carefully screened and scripted. He has ignored most Americans for 7 years whilst doing the bidding of the richest 1 per cent."BOO" indeed.

This is The United States of America! We have the freedom of speech guaranteed to us by the first amendment. I can not think of a better way for the public to express that right then by booing. It is this perverse administration that wishes to make things such as booing the president "unpatriotic". Mr. Bush has himself so cut off from the rest of the world that he doesn't realize how poorly this nation feels about him, his policies, and the state of our union. Maybe booing him will be a very real reminder of how his negative legacy will be carved into this nations history for all time. Shame on anyone who feels the people of this nation should not be heard. Forget respect, remember the constitution!

It seems alot of the libs who read this paper to get the truth about current events have not yet learned how to appreciate a President who stands firm to what he believes to be right. I rather have a President that has values and stands for something rather than take polls before making vital decisions. We all know that the loss of one life is one too many but, who can say that liberty comes easy or free. There has to be a price to pay for the USA to be the envy of the world. It took far more losses of men and women in past wars to have the USA become the beacon of light for all men and women in this world. You liberals do not seem to recall that there were far more deaths in past wars than the 4000 that have been lost in this war. Dont forget that it is better to fight on foreign soil than to be having this type of fight in your own backyard. President Bush was brave and bold enough to call the bluff of these terrorists who decided one day to attack America one time too many. Now what we have is the Country of Iraq that will become a Democratic country with 25 million men and woman who will be free and not have to be terrorized by Saddam anymore. Iraq will be with and for America and that is something more than i can say about these liberals who rather wish America lose this war than want have us win. I ask liberals i come across one question to answer for me....and they can never answer it correctly. The question is an easy one for us conservatives to answer but somehow it is hard for the liberals to do so. The question is....."DO YOU WANT THE USA TO WIN THE WAR IN IRAQ?"......they think, pause, think again and then they go on this long winded answer that in the end says NO i dont......but for the conservatives it is an easy and simple answer.............YES, I DO!
Thank you Mr. President Bush and all of your cabinet for doing the best you can to keep us safe. God Bless America!

Those people who think the president was treated disrespectfully need to dig out their history books. Just as you are free to say what you like on this board, the people in the stands that night were free to voice their displeasure. And they did. It's just that simple.

Now, having just watched the season finale of "Moment of Truth" I would like to suggest that ALL presidential candidates be subjected to the same scrutiny those people endured all in the name of money. I mean, it seems like a polygraph is the very least we could ask of the people who want the job of president. Just a thought, folks.

JOSE You need to better inform yourself about what is actually happening in Iraq. The new PBS Frontline series about the Iraq war would be a good place to start.

I had been following developments in Iraq for years, but it is truly breathtaking to come to grips with the totality of incompetence shown by the president and his cronies in this mess.
(Put aside stubbornness and corruption for a moment.)

After you watch the Frontline special, you will realize that history could not ever conceivably be kind to the Georgie II administration.
