Soaring food and fuel prices have left the United Nation's most reliable humanitarian food program about $500 million short, and an urgent international appeal is being issued to raise the extra funds, Ambassador Josette Sheeran said Feb. 29, 2008, at an editorial board meeting at The Washington Times.
When asked what she would like to see the United States do to help, both as a government and as ordinary Americans, Amb. Sheeran said that the World Food Programme needs help meeting its core budget as well as additional funds. The organization is appealing specifically for help with its school feeding program.

Why was she asked what she wants the U.S. to do to 'help' before she was asked WHY there was a $500 million dollar shortfall!
Maybe in the Beltway, half a billion dollars seems like chump change, but a lot of people in 'flyover' America are having a hard time making their mortgage payments and THEY sure could use $500 million of THEIR OWN MONEY back.
What this probably is about is a slick bailout of speculators who've over extended themselves on the futures markets. Instead of meekly writing U.N. bureaucrats a blank check, how about acting like JOURNALISTS and investigating the details in order to inform the public?
