Attracting young voters was a hot topic at today's Take Back America conference. Panelists, including Barack Obama's former political director in South Carolina, discussed how to tap into this formerly apathetic voting bloc, which was crucial in propelling Obama to victory in several states.
"This is a signal and a warning to politicians that the youth can put you and office, and they can take you out," said Anthony Daniels, who directs the National Education Association's student outreach program. "We have started these fires of engagement, but now we must come up with ways to cultivate these flames."
Diana Nguyen, associate director of Declare Yourself, a non-partisan voting campaign to register young voters, talked about how politicians need to tap into the celebrity culture to appeal to the "hip-hop generation."
