The greening o' the Dems

Staff planning this year's Democratic National National Convention Committee launched a new Web page trumpeting their efforts to ensure this year's nominating event is carbon neutral and environmentally friendly.

The new page highlights how these event planners hope to make sure the estimated 35,000 people who will convene August 25-28 in Denver do so with a limited impact on the surrounding environment.

The page details things like the energy-efficient lighting to be used at the host venues and organic waste products that will be returned to the soil within weeks of the event rather than sent to landfills. The site's also got a carbon calculator to help attendees determine their carbon footprint from a visit to the Colorado capital.

"The Democratic Party has been a leader in addressing climate change, environmental preservation and the promotion of renewable energy use, and the ways we build and execute our convention in Denver will mirror those same commitments, " Andrea Robinson, who's overseeing the greening effort, said in a statement.

Update: A staff member of the Republican National Convention kindly pointed out that the GOP has made efforts to ensure their convention is environmentally sound as well. They highlight their work on their Web site.

This makes sense, Washington has booted out the corporate and business special interests and replaced them with special interests of lawyers, environmentalists and organized labor. Definite trend toward socialism. Greening = Global Governance. "For the first time, humanity is instituting a genuine instrument of global governance, one that should find a place within the World Environmental Organisation which France and the European Union would like to see established." - Jacques Chirac.
