House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, is meeting with the Dalai Lama in India today to discuss the Chinese persecution of Tibetians, many of whom have fled to India.
"Today, this delegation from the United States Congress is here to shed the bright light of truth on what is happening in Tibet," Mrs. Pelosi said during remarks at the summit in Dharamsala. "If freedom loving people throughout the world do not speak out against China's oppression in Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to speak on human rights anywhere in the world. The cause of Tibet is a challenge to the conscience of the world."
Mrs. Pelosi was accompanied by Reps. Edward Markey, Massachusetts Democrat; James Sensenbrenner, Wisconsin Democrat; George Miller, California Democrat; Jim McDermott, Washington Democrat; Anna Eshoo, California Democrat; Jay Inslee, Washington Democrat; Rush Holt, New Jersey Democrat; Hilda Solis, California Democrat; and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C. Democrat.
The House members met with Tibetan monks, nuns and children who recently fled to India from Tibet.

After reading Representative Pelosi's statement, it sounds like there is no discussion, the decision has been made with regard to "China's oppression of Tibet". We must assume that she and her fellow Democrats have been briefed by the State Departement on US policy? They are authorized to speak for the "freedom loving" people of the world and set the U.S. policy for China and Tibet? If anything can be depicted as unilateral, this is certainly the case. It is not enough to have good intentions without considering the nonlinear effects of single decisions. Linear thinking and acting may provoke global chaos, although we locally act with best intentions. - Klaus Mainzer.

Pelosi's has good intentions but this trip to India is merely a sign of support for the Dalia Lama and his community of expats. China's expansionism will not stop until it includes not only Tibet but Taiwan as well. It would serve Tibet better to get China to the table at the UN.
