It's not well known, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has an additional anti-war primary challenger for her congressional seat in California's 8th District.
She's Shirley Golub, 61, who has worked on Dennis Kucinich's presidential campaigns this year and in 2004. The most prominent plank in her platform: impeachment of President Bush.
"It is outrageous and unacceptable that any member of Congress, let alone our majority speaker, should unilaterally declare that impeachment is 'off the table,' and so defy the Constitution herself," Golub said in a flier circulated to activists at the Take Back America conference.
Golub certainly has an uphill climb. In 2006, Pelosi defeated her Republican opponent Mike DeNunzio by a margin of 80 to 11 percent. She spent more than $1.8 million to DeNunzio's $149,000.
"This will set the stage for Cindy Sheehan," said Angelo Feste, a Golub campaign worker, referring to the anti-war activist who shot to prominence for her protesting techniques, including setting up camp outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. Sheehan is running as a "Decline To State" candidate in Pelosi's district.
Golub has planned protests outside of Pelosi's San Francisco office each Thursday. Whether or not the publicity and exposure these protests give her enough momentum to serve as a giant toppler will be shown after the June 3 primary.

Nancy Pelosi swore an oath to protect and defend our constitution, and to uphold the laws of this nation. Bush and Cheney have committed a list of HIGH CRIMES (no misdemeanors) as long as my arm, in 10pt type!: LIES, AN ILLEGAL-WAR-AND-OCCUPATION-FOR-PROFIT, which is MASS MURDER that has slaughtered, maimed and terrorized over ONE MILLION HUMAN BEINGS (murder committed in the process of a robbery is a capital offense in most states in this nation), ILLEGAL SURVEILLANCE (admitted), FRAUD, TREASON (Plame), usurping executive power, TORTURE - a violation of human rights, civil rights, and against the laws of not only this nation but our obligations under international treaties, which are the LAW in this nation. They have LOOTED THIS NATION to pay for their CORPORATE WAR - to LOOT IRAQ.
And then there is the issue of inexcusable incompetence, no-bid contracts, the use of illegal mercenaries who kill without accountability (AND RAPE).
For the Speaker of the House to REFUSE to hold investigation hearings, impeach and prosecute these sociopaths/psychopaths is a VIOLATION OF HER OATH OF OFFICE....which,to millions of Americans, is COLLABORATION.
DEMOCRACY IS DEAD.

Liberty and our fine republic are not dead as long as a candidate committed to both still stands.

What a platform!!! The economy is in recession, immigration is becoming a matter of amnesty votes, energy and therefore the GNP will be defined and controlled by a global concurrence on our "carbon footprint", multilateralism is and will always will be dysfunctional as long as the U.N. exists, the Democrats are showing their real integrity with regard to racisim and sexism and this person wants to impeach Bush? Definitely want Pelosi voted out, but not by a "blame somebody" candidate. We already have enough of adolescents running Congress.

Pelosi"s failure to impeach , shows her own failure as speaker of the house , she has no respect for the constitution of the united states .

Nancy Pelosi should be impeached. Her decision not to impeach Bush and Cheney was made under the direction of the corporations and energy companies. She should never had the job of speaker in the first place. Harry Reid is not much better. We need one with more sincere feelings for the american people and the country as a whole.

Pelosi's act of allowing this criminal element to stay in power on the excuse that Congressmen have no time to deal with impeachment, when her actual twisted logic is that by not impeaching these fascist crooks the Democrats will somehow have a better chance of winning in '08, is one of the most cynical and stupid acts of a any politician, in a career which has become rife with spineless stupidity and cynicism. May God bless Shirley's selfless response to civic duty. It is true what Obama says, "We are the ones we have been waiting for." Neither Congress nor any president will "do it" for us. We have to do it for ourselves. Following leaders is not working but it is said that when the people lead the leaders must follow. I urge every reader to visit www.vote.org and www.nationalinitiative.org We need to vote directly and often on the issues of our governance. Giving our vote away every 2 years is not sufficient. I'm sick of protesting, I want the dignity of a vote.

Mr WHY, you are woefully misinformed about the world we live in and are a testament as to why democrats love the public school system. You obviously can't use logical thought processes. Someday you may find yourself a victim of terrorism and then you will whine and cry because you are not being protected. Well, fear not, illogical one, because guys like me are there to protect the timid little sheep like you even though you hate your country and it's military. We do it every day gladly. Under our system, it's ok for you to carry on like that. Under Sharia law, you would be beheaded for it. Oh, by the way, you really should move.

Clay, You sound like a home schooled troll who can not face the reality of what a corrupt criminal regime your beloved shrub really is.Reminds me of when a child finds out there is no Santa Claus.

to Clay:
One of the most successful propaganda techniques employed by the neo-cons is the "All or Nothing" approach. That's when you try to make people believe that if they don't agree with what you're preaching, then they are totally against all that is good and American. Nice try.
In reality (and I'm talking about atcual reality here, not the BS you are pushing), it's not a black and white issue. There are a million shades of grey.
In other words, just because I realize that "W" and his croneys are a bunch of corporate crooks, does not mean that I hate my country or it's military. On the contrary. I feel that each and every one of them is far too valuable to sacrifice needlessly to further the neo-con cause - even you.
You mention that one day we may be attacked by terrorists, too. We already have. If our president really had wanted to go after them, we'd be in Saudi right now and not Iraq.
No, far more likely that our Government will go bankrupt and your precious military pension will evaporate before your very eyes (along with Social Security) while we pay to make all these fat cats richer.
Have a clue. Statements like yours only convince the rest of us how thoroughly you've been brainwashed into blindly supporting these criminals because you think that'll benefit you in the Military.
You drank the cool-aid.

Clay, you need to read WHY's comment again. The first sentence states his or her main point, and it isn't hatred of America or the military. The rest of the comment is all true, except, hopefully, not the last sentence. I suspect that we could have saved ourslves most of a trillion dollars and thousands of casualties, and still not wind up subject to Sharia law.
Larry Stone, I fully agree with your last sentence. The rest of your post, however, exemplifies what we mean by 'adolescent'.

Pelosi has been a disappointment, especially for taking impeachment off the table. She has shown herself to be part of the old establishment congress. Granted, impeachment proceedings would likely not have the votes necessary to convict, but to not allow the process was wrong. Fresh people are needed in Congress.
The poster Clay must realize that true patriots do actually care about what happens to their country and if they see something wrong with the country's direction, they will work to change it. One must sometimes question the reasons factions behave like they do. The US has 734+ bases in many countries and some people wonder why. Regarding schools, I call your attention to the NCLB lunacy. It is profits for test makers, test scorers, coaching book makers and now tutors all the while sacrificing good curriculum in preparation for test preparation time. The end result is lesser quality student and a dumbed down country that is easier to control.

Nancy Pelosi is a coward and she is derelict in her responsibilities. Its time the real democrats get into to office. The pandering, compromising, "centrist" (read: Republican-wannabees), limp-wristed fake Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are as culpable for the mess our nation is in now as are the Republicans. We need change within our party. We need leaders who stand up for progressive values and who are proud to be Democrats. Nancy Pelosi refuses to do her job and MUST be replaced.
Thank you.

Shirley Golub is one of the most incredible people I know, and I'm proud to say she is my friend. How many of us have the audacity to act? Most of us sit behind our laptops and complain, or worse yet write silly, stupid comments. At least Shirley has stood up and is living her convictions. Nancy has not represented her constituents, the people of the United States, or our constitution, and should walk back to San Francisco is shame. Shirley, not Nancy again?
