A purple elephant hand puppet named Quagmyre is the weapon of choice for a group of Democrats affiliated with Sen. John Kerry's leadership PAC.
They're hoping to use Quagmyre and the satirical Web site he represents to swing enough Senate seats into Democratic hands to avoid the stymieing effects of a filibuster.
"[A]s long as they have at least 34 Senators and 146 Representatives who are unwilling to stand up to the White House, the Roadblock Republicans can keep right on vetoing until the cows (but not the troops) come home," reads the site, RoadBlockRepublicans.com.

The six GOP senators in their crosshairs are Sens. John Sununu of New Hampshire, Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, John Cornyn of Texas, Susan Collins of Maine, Norm Coleman of Minnesota and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
Staffers from Mr. Kerry's PAC brought the fuzzy mascot with them to this year's Take Back America conference to promote one of five Web sites affiliated with the Massachusetts Democrat's leadership PAC, Campaign for Our Country.
"I don't think [Mr. Kerry]'s seen the puppet yet," said Dave Counts, who was handling Quagmyre. Mr. Counts could not say how much the PAC plans to spend on the sites, though he did say for now the operation is "bare bones."
"It's not like George Soros is pouring money into this," Mr. Counts said.
Mr. Counts and his co-workers plan to promote the site, which features humorous cartoon videos lampooning the senators through Google ads and a planned fundraiser in New York.
