If we build no more coal fired plants, this will occur at the sametime we build no more nuclear power plants because they too are dangerous.
If we try to generate more electricity with windmills and solar power we will not catch up to demand for electricity. That means more and more people will not be able to afford electricity for their homes.
It will be this same group of people who now find it almost impossible to pay for fuel oil to heat their homes.
Summation: No politician who wants to continue his or her political career will vote to prohibit building new coal fired power plants.

Here's Google, supplying information on demand to millions of people every day. Google accepts your queries and provides the results it feels adequately answer your queries. Would a politically active Google provide ALL the results, or would they perhaps withhold the results they don't want you to see? Their search algorithms are secret. Their page ranking algorithms are super-secret.

Does anyone think it possible that a politically active Google might, just might, start ranking the web sites of "climate change deniers" lower than those of say, Greenpeace and their ilk?

When you search on George W Bush, for example, do you get more UNfriendly-to-Bush web sites than you do friendly-to-Bush sites?

I suspect Google is already filtering their search results AND page ranks to bolster the popularity of Liberal-leaning web sites.

Don't believe me? Search on Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robertson, or any well-known Conervative. Count the numbers of "hate" sites vs the number of positive sites.

In the 1970s, the concern was overpopulation. I live in California, and the predictions were that the California coastline was going to become one continuous city from Los Angeles to San Francisco. This never happened. In fact, if you ever fly from SF to LA, you will have a difficult time finding any houses along the route, once you leave the SF Bay Area, until you get all the way to Los Angeles.

Then, in the 1980s, the concern was Global Cooling. Amazing how quickly that went away.

Then in the 1990s, up until throught 2006, the concern was Global Warming (the ice caps shrinking, etc.).

Now, since hundreds of scientists, and climatologists have refuted the global "warming" scare. And, with recent statistics showing that the earth's temperature has actually come down in the last few years.

The eco-freaks have once again changed their tune. Now, the scare is "climate change" (since they can no longer claim Global Warming. These folks need to get a job, and have a life. They want to keep protesting (like the days of the 60s). They need to smoke some of their substances, and chill out a bit.

I think we should use this event to demand that the SEC investigate the legality and validity of the entire carbon trading schemes that Bro. AlGore and company are really promoting!

Jeez, and I use Google for my blog. Ugh. It should be illegal for Google to use their bandwidth to flood the switchboards or email of anybody, government or not. They should remember they are a tool, not some electronic monster trying to run your life. I had to sit through a stupid "Green" promo at the Chinese theatre in Hollywood along with my previews and advertising, and now this. This is getting out of hand. I used to like the color green.

I don't know what all you people are talking about. When I woke up this morning the temperature was 45 degrees. Now at 5PM the temperature is 72 degrees. If that isn't PROOF of global warming, I don't know what is!!!!

On the current curve, global demand for oil will continue to increase indefinitely while the supply is limited. If you Google "top ten warmest years" you will get back 10-12 pages witharticles stating that several years from 1998 - 2006 were in the top ten. There is not a single mention of the data being revised to show no warming since 1998. If anyone uses Google to serach this, they will come back as Global Warming believers. Do you think there is a computer out there pinging those web sites to keep the revised data off the first ten pages???

The problem with coal is also sulfur emissions, not just CO2. Sulfur DOES cause MEASURABLE damage to the atmosphere.

Nuclear in its modern state is very safe, and uses a very different process as plants in operation today in the US. New ones use pelletized fuel, not fuel rods. Pelletized fuel cannot melt down as with fuel rods.

The US is currently building a nuke plant to power its new base in the Mid-East.

Hydrogen fuel cell energy has capabilities much greater than what is commercially available today. All of the good patents are owned by DARPA. We escaped oil dependency a long time ago, just that "we" doesn't include "you".

Hey 'cath', can you specify a single 'global warming' catastrophe that has occurred since the time Al Gore started spewing these lies over 15 years ago? The rate of sea level hasn't changed much since it started rising over 10,000 years ago. Overall polar bear populations are increasing. Global warming on average causes more rain not less because warm air can hold more water vapor. CO2 is what plants live on; their ancient genetics are accustomed to having MUCH more CO2 hundreds of millions of years ago - like 5 to 10 times more. It was also MUCH warmer back then too - as much as 10 degrees warmer during the Carboniferous period for example when earth was a PARADISE of plant growth, (where'd you think all that coal came from?). More plants and faster plant growth are GOOD things are they not? Either debate the scientific points being posted or go away; this is NOT a political debate and liking or disliking our president has nothing to do with scientific reality.

Eco-friendly measure can be on many level. Recycling, energy conservation, energy plans, cleaner coal plants etc.. I don't argue much of the global warming data is in debate but this isn't just about global warming, mass transit is about energy use, recycling is about saving finite resources. So why all the reaction about Gore or Global warming and further to draw attention to environmental issues is good in itself. Personally I'd still like to catch edible fish and would hope my children can too. Logically recycling is good an economic and finite resources standpoint. This is silly that anything environmental is tied to global warming debate... Environment is important period.

AGW from C02 is more political than physical science. C02 may have an insulating effect on the earth's temperature, but everything that is blamed on CO2 has a strong alternative causation (clear cutting, black carbon emissions, North Atlantic Oscillation, El Nino, La Nina, wind shear, geothermal, and the list goes on.)

The only scary truth I see is the liberal �junk science� that the MSM presents to its readers. It seems to me the only people that are worried about �global warming� are the majority of the left and academia (liberal professors that are sheltered from the real world) and very few people of the right. I know that I will not convince you that �global warming� is not created primarily by humans, but are cyclic changes that have been going on for billions of years. However, I assume that you are taking the necessary precautions to help prevent future effects of �global warming�.

� You have converted your home to solar or wind power (this requires fossil fuels)
� You have replaced your vehicle/vehicles with a horse and buggy or a good pair of walking/running shoes (hybrids or electric cars will not work � batteries require a massive amount of fossil fuels to produce.)
� You heat your home with a �magic� fuel that does not produce CO2, or you are implementing the appropriate scrubbing technology on your chimney.
� You are eating foods that do not need to he heated or were not created in any manufacturing plant. The majority of the prepared and packaged foods that we eat were produced in a manufacturing facility (i.e., cereals, breads, juices, snack foods, canned soups, etc.)
� You would have to walk around naked or wear your choice of a �big leaf�; however, plants need CO2 to survive.

I can continue, but I assume that you are getting the point. However, there are better ways to make energy, but the liberal environmentalists do not want to implement them due to the aesthetics of the landscape or other environmental affects they may produce. Hydroelectric power is by far the cleanest way to produce energy, but the moonbats believe that dams are harmful. Nuclear power is also very efficient, but the nutters believe that there could be a possible melt down. Solar power and windmill farms are effective alternative power supplies to a very small geographic area, but require a mass amount of space in order to create the amount of energy that is required to run a state. Do you suggest that we use open space and BLM land to incorporate these alternative energy sources? In all due respect, people of this country/world need to worry more about global terrorism, illegal immigration and how this country is going to deal with the problems at hand, not how are we going to prevent �global warming�. If people would look at the whole picture, we would see how insignificant humans really are and how we are not able to control Mother Nature.

Why does google assume all the people calling will be eco-nuts? I will call to express my opinion, that I would like to use as much energy as al gore thinks he has a right to use and I want Washington to encourage power companies to compete and produce the cheapest product possible while not making too much of a mess. I want American oil companies to be allowed to drill in the gulf alongside the cuban and chinese people already drilling there. ANd so on.

CO2 is an essential trace gas, there is not enough of it to make a difference, we cannot make enough of it to make a difference, and there is not hard and fast true experimental scientific evidence that CO2 has any uniques properties relative to other atmospheric gases that make it disproportionately effective as a greenhouse gas relative to other gases that represent a far greater percentage of our atmosphere. Also - interesting tidbit - produce more C02 - more plant growth is stimulated, which reduces the amount of C02 in the atmosphere - and the plants through shading and transpiration cool and temper the enviroment.

When google uses the 21st century tech to fllod a 20th century Capitol switchboard with calls, this will be tantamount to electronic terrorism. Google is a bully and we all know that a bully needs to be called out. Since google is big and digital and powerful, it will take a lot to overpower them. Make no mistake, google will need to be on its knees before it cries uncle. This is the same Google who will soon be moving into their new,600$ mil. server farm in Council Bluffs, Iowa. There, they will reap the benefits of a massive new, Warren Buffet (Mid America Energy) owned/controlled coal-fired power plant, just beside the massive one now in use. The four major weather tracking agencies,including NASA have recorded a .75 degree decrease in the average global temperture for the last 12 months. This almost erases the 1 degree increase for the last one hundred years. Please pass this on to a friend as you will not see that fact on any front page.

The biggest issue with global warming is that it is a fa�ade. Global governments want it because it will become a politically correct way to control economies and a perpetual tax source (just ask Chirac). Everything in our daily lives is tied to energy. That current energy source comes from carbon. Controlling the energy consumption, controls the economy, which controls the people. There are serious issues with the environment, but climate control or climate change is not the solution. You cannot control a complex environment with one variable. If Google is going to try to force us green supporting this concept, what is the transition plan? What do I do when my job goes away because a non-green foreign entity offers a lower price, move to that country? Where do I get the electricity to light my house? Where do I get the gas to drive to work, if I still have a job? Where does the farmer get the diesel to run his tractors to feed the nation? How do we compete in a market when it is cheaper for a non green entity like China or India to produce a product and ship it across the Pacific Ocean, than to build it in green industry? The global warming predictions are not based on sound scientific theory. The IPCC violated 72 principles of forecasting out 89 that could be judged by Green and Armstrong - GLOBAL WARMING: FORECASTS BY SCIENTISTS VERSUS SCIENTIFIC FORECASTS*.

Did you also say that Mankind's written history shows that the greatest advances in Mankind's society, philosophy, science, and technology all occurred during periods of Global Warming like the Medieval Warming period?

Wow, I guess that Climate Change isn't as dangerous to Mankind as I've been led to believe. I wonder if anyone will Google THAT important information to Congress?

Aside from the fact that CO2 is not a pollutant, and that it makes NO significant contribution to climate change, and, in view of all the media talk about the current recession, and what can be done to get the economy out of recession, policy makers and the population need to know of the very serious consequences that will befall us all if and when laws are made to force the reduction of CO2 emissions. CO2 mitigation could destroy our economy. All for nothing. Mr Glazer barely scratches the surface in identifying the calamatous ramifications of CO2 mitigation.

This is not just rampant idealism by the guys at Google. This is advertizing. It is already being reported that the founders are in bed with guys like Richard Branson and Tony Blair, to develop business interests to profit from every conceiveable trickledown effect of the proposed green legislations. So under the guise of environmental activism, they are preying on the naieve and idealistic to create a mediaworthy event to bring recognition agenda that they are waiting in the wings to profit from. What a bunch of freaking scumbags.
Hoax as it may be, I personally would welcome global warming. Hotter, drier tempatures, and a CO2 rich environment would do wonders for my pot plants. Real "greenies" say bring it on!

Why is it that the pinkos who rant about how stupid right wingers are can't ever spell? (Yes, I am talking about Cath.) And I don't mean typos, either. She doesn't know the simple difference between to/too/two and yet she sits on her throne accusing others of being stupid. Forget the fact that she has stupidly falllen for the most ridiculous scam of all time, that is a moot point. She just plain can't spell better than a second grader. Gasp! I saw so many people who said they would stop using Goofball as their search engine, and I thought it was a good idea, but as I was looking around, I found information that says Yahoo actually uses Goofball search!

Oh well. But if anyone tries to say that you are stupid because you are still using Goofball, just remind them that you are making Goofball do the work, but looking (hopefully) at the Yahoo ads instead of the Goofball ads...

I appreciate that everyone has different opinions on things, and there's plenty of problems in 'liberal thought', but some of you guys really reveal a very basic misunderstanding of ecological science. those of you who said that making more CO2 is green because plants use CO2 and plants are green are not doing your side of the discussion a favor, as it makes you seem absolutely ridiculous. an enormous percentage of our oxygen supply is supplied by the rainforests. emitting more CO2 from cars and such does not rebuild rainforests. Cutting down those forests, however, does seriously reduce the CO2 to O2 balance. It would be nice if driving more made plants grow faster, but it doesn't work that way. Nice try. Also, for those of you who spoke as if the Ozone hole was a hoax because we don't hear about it anymore, well, we don't hear about it anymore because the holes, which are real, got smaller, due to the elimination of CFCs. Nobody knows what the climate will do. We only know that CO2 is at record highs and ice and glacier melt is also at a record high. This is not a religion, and being concerned about the quality of life for ourselves and our children does not make a person a communist. Most 'liberals' I've met couldn't quote marx or define communism and are much more interested in "green capitalism" which is a term used to describe how to keep the economy running without getting our lungs black in the process (like they do in China)--i don't think conservatives want mercury in their children's water any more than liberals do. Both liberals and conservatives have many mistaken notions of each other, and neither do the country a favor by believing such absurd extreme things like most of you write above. We all want a better world and no one has the last word on the best way to achieve it, so stop condemning those who try with a different approach than you. Its absurd to say Al Gore is a hypocrite for flying around delivering a message--you are all capable of doing the math that the educational efforts of one person can bring about a total reduction of energy use--this is far more effective overall than that one person sitting at home doing nothing. As for 'global warming' changing to 'climate change', the ecosystem is not linear...if the temps rise, and melt ice, the salinity of the oceans near the poles change, which changes the ocean current, which is THE driving force for the temperature we experience each day....change the ocean current and the small temperature rise globally can make it colder in places previously receiving tropical current. Its totally true that many of the 'green' things people are doing is a bunch of crap, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater as that would be no different than rejecting christianity because some christians are hypocrites. again, we'll never get anywhere if its us versus them--we have to stop thinking that way. most of the comments above only serve to make the world a less pleasant place. while i am just as concerned about censorship or bias in google's search engine, i'm a little surprised to hear this concern come from individuals who I am guessing do not mind how terribly biased Fox News is or how many of our constitutional rights have been lost in recent years...i'd take a slight google bias over extreme fox bias or being held without a warrant without a lawyer any day. liberals and conservatives should agree on this point, since we both believe in liberty and freedom.

The same people who are hyperventilating about global warming hyperventilate about monopolies. If Google supports them on climate issues, they will be loathe to prosecute Google for monopolistic practices.

Donations to 527s are not tax deductible. However donations to environmental education just in time for federal elections are deductible. Google gets PR, a tax write off, and it's friends in Washington who will make sure to protect Google's bottom line, get a defacto donation without having to admit that they are taking support from big business.

How ironic a group of environmental activists have enlisted Google to help flood the congressional switchboard with one million phone calls on Earth Day urging lawmakers to enact eco-friendly measures and they have consistently shown support for environmental causes, yet both Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have no issue with the purchase of their Boeing 767 jumbo jet for personal use. A 767 holds over 35,000 gallons of fuel. By some accounts Google's Chief Executive Eric Schmidt has described the jet as a "party plane". That doesn't sound very eco-friendly to me?
