Democratic challengers band together on Iraq

They aren't in office yet, but a group of 25 (and growing) Democratic House and Senate candidates are promoting their detailed plan for withdrawing from Iraq, hoping the effort will attract enough voters frustrated with a conflict now entering its sixth year.

The 36-page plan calls for removing military forces from Iraq and focusing on diplomatic and humanitarian concerns.

Six of the challengers, including Darcy Burner, who is hoping to unseat Rep. Dave Reichert, Washington Republican, and Tom Perriello, who hopes to topple Rep. Virgil Goode, Virginia Republican, are hosting a press conference tomorrow to promote their plan.

Actually, a lot of the anti-Iraq war material is just anti George Bush propaganda. Now that it is clear that indeed Saddam Hussein was supporting the terrorists who mounted the 9/11 attacks, it is clear that not only was the Iraq war justified, those who gave their lives in the war saved many innocent American lives by preventing other attacks on American soil.

So any effort to prematurely leave Iraq, far from being an act to bring peace to America, would bring war to our shores because Al Queda would see victory and enlist thousands of those Islamic extremists to seek the paradise of heaven in the martyrdom of war.

Let us be mindful that just one small nuclear weapon set off in New York would cost trillions of dollars and murder millions of people. Is this the chance immoral Democrats want to take to get elected?

Senator McCain if elected President would never take that chance.

Excuse me? Seven and half years later and people are still spouting this junk?

As for this plan, it is a realistic, thoughtful roadmap that addresses aspects of our ongoing occupation of Iraq that we've completely neglected, via existing legislation that needs to be passed. If the current slate of representatives won't do it, then we've got a list of many worthy replacements (http://www.responsibleplan.com/endorsees) that will.
