Bush Quotable (possibly of the year)

UPDATE - ThinkProgress has posted video of the moment.

Say what?

"I appreciate the fact that you really snatched defeat out of the jaws of those who were trying to defeat us."
— President Bush to Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno, former commanding general of U.S. forces in Iraq, in the Oval Office today.

will this country ever live down the last seven years? is he really representing the "dumbing down of america"? unbelievable!? well really not!!!

Can anyone say that they don't understand what the president meant, or that Gen Odierno didn't understand it? Mr. Bush has a Masters from Yale; owned the Texas Rangers baseball team; had other successes in business; won the Governorship of Texas against an extremely popular rival, Ann Richards. He ran for President, not for Chairman of the English Department at XYZ University. The feigned shock and disgust with Mr. Bush's verbal slips has grown tiresome and is way overblown. Get off his back and get a life.

I don't believe that being a "good" businessman has anything to do with his overall character, especially considering the fact that he made out with upwards of $800k just before his company went in the dumps. (no insider-trading going on there, to be sure). And also lets applaud the man for his brilliancy in terms of being a good and honest leader. He really stuck to his guns on the whole "addiction to oil" jargon. Seriously, did anyone ever really believe that to be sincere? Well at any rate he really stuck to that one, enhancing the budget spending for oil and coal companies and reducing the amount of money spent on alternative energies. I say, we let this man run rampant for too long. I wouldn't have a problem with his lack of moral credulity or his inconsistant stances on things, were he not our PRESIDENT. Come on, to be sure, his lack of command over the english language is little more than a funny distraction from the real problems this administration has created, or more accurately, further enhanced.

I think that it's funny that you can get away with making fun of a disability... as long as it afflicts a Conservative.

Yes, funny. We Conservatives got tough skins and we don't buy the sound-byte versions of things. Results are what counts, and while you make fun of the only friend that Africa has had in the White House so far, The Press is absolutely ignoring the greatest humanitarian successes in history in Africa since poresident Bush turned on the money spigot. History will judge you fairly.... you've whored yourselves to the political estate to the extent that cannot be ignored. The fourth estate has become the fifth column. Watch your subscriptions plummet oh enemies of freeedom.

Bush has a BA from Yale, not a Master's (note the spelling there). He got in because he was a legacy student, and scored Cs. I went to Yale, and I can tell you that getting a C there is the moral equivalent of an F, given the degree of grade inflation.

Bush had the very best education this country has to offer, but speaks like a farmer. His are not mere verbal slips: his muddled speech is an accurate reflection of a chaotic mind.

Mr. Faust is absolutely correct. I might also add President Bush was a fast jet pilot, something I doubt 1 in a 1000 of his most vocal critics would have ever had the skill and brains to master. No fools survive flying a delta wing high performance fighter! It's a common tactic of the left to try to demonize the opposition and make them out to be evil incarnate (Rove) or morons (Reagan, Quayle) as they try to smear the President. It's easier than forming intelligent criticism, something they have trouble with. While President Bush might not be the most eloquent speaker he speaks with honesty and conviction something his critics have trouble with. Eloquence does not necessarily go hand in hand with intelligence. Fact is if you follow any public speaker you could gather enough miscues to trash anyone, even the saintly Mr. Obama.
I also wonder about the educational qualifications of the Presidential critics, especially the media crowd.
After all President Bush had higher GPA than the media darling genius prophet of global warming, Al Gore. Yes, Al Gore. Smoke on that a while!

Once again, folks who will never achieve anything close to what George W. Bush has done with his life find it easy to sit back and poke at his verbal foibles. Grow up for God's sake! This man has led this nation in one of the most difficult times in the past one hundred years with strength of character, conviction, and courage that neither Barack nor Hillary could help to match. Too many have fought and died to preserve our freedom to have one of these two prostrate themselves on their knees to he UN or the Islamists. So help me it will make 9/11 look like child's play.

Sorry, Bob, your President's a laughing stock. End of.

I agree with Bob Faust. President Bush has a big job and needs our prayers. I wonder how you would perform with all the pressure he faces daily...including those days you don't even know about. If you want to do something, exercise your rights as an American and vote and if you are a believer, then add prayer to that. I seem to recall someone who was a Rhodes Scholar and still didn't have any common sense....and that stupid behavior was overlooked and we are still paying for it, so don't push education down our throats...it's not anything without some common sense.

If you were to remove constituencies motivated by fear or greed, this dangerous imbecile would stand alone.

President Bush isn't an orator. I don't really gave a damn as I am not impressed by vocabulary or the usage of adjectives, nouns and verbs, I do like Bush's straight talk and problem resolution ability. "What you see is what you get" is a relief from the deceptive years of the Clinton's.
Only fools attack an individual about their background, especially those individuals with a rural or country heritage. (Abe Lincoln)
South Carolina is the home of Clemson University, MUSC and the University of SC, three extremely difficult schools with high admission standards. The dorms in these schools are filled with many students that have grown up on farms or rural areas. For you that seem so welling to critize, why not attempt admission to one of our schools, your elitist little minds probably couldn't get you across the threshold at the Admissions Office.

I seem to recall hearing that Abraham Lincoln wasn't the greatest speaker in the world, either but he was arguably the best President we've ever had. And a Republican to boot. These people are just looking for any excuse they can think of to rag President Bush to the dogs and back. Does anybody ever make fun of Ted Kennedy when you can't even understand what he says half the time? That guy sounds like he swallowed a sock or something.

To address an earlier comment, if you do a little reseach you will find that the President's military record is riddled with inconsistencies, so it is not wise of you to advertise that as one of his strengths. As the president, he represents all United States issues on most international matters. How does this make us look, if he cannot articulate his thoughts in an educated manner? To his credit, he led the nation through a difficult time during his first presidency, but has he not manufactured another through his invasion and subsequent miltary occupation of Iraq?

In response to Tim: First of all, you seem angry that people are "making fun" of the way our illustrious president speaks but then you turn around and "make fun" of Ted Kennedy which seems a bit hypocritical. Secondly, I have read and studied much about Abraham Lincoln....George Bush is no Abraham Lincoln.

Anonymous--Since when is stupidity a "disability"?

What's with the comparisons to Abraham Lincoln? Did Lincoln inherit a budget surplus and turn that into the largest national debt in history? Oh, was it the preemptive strike in Iraq with no exit strategy? Oh, I know, it has to be the honesty, like about Saddam's WMDs. No? Warrentless wiretaps? Letting military contractors scam us out of billions? (empty convoys, anyone?)

Ohhhhhh, it's his speeeeech patterns... That makes sense.

Wow, I think we need to drop backing Bush by citing his academic accolades, after all, John Stewart (above) went to Yale. John, how is a C the "moral" equivalent of an F? I wasn't aware of any free will that allows letter grades to make any kind of decisions; moral, immoral or otherwise. Really, my friend, if you are going to comment on someone's speech wouldn't you try not to seem like a moron?

If Bush is an idiot, why were the grades of W. higher than those of Gore and Kerry in undergraduate school? In addition, Gore failed five out of eight graduate courses at Vanderbilt Divinity and Law School. Bush earned an M.B.A., no failing grades in graduate school? By the way, what scientific training does Gore possess to give him a platform on global warming?

Mark, the best defense you have of Bush is comparing him to Gore and Kerry? Nice comeback! You conveniently left Clinton (actually a President!) out of your argument who was a Rhodes Scholar and an intellectual giant compared to "duh-bya".
