Bob Geldof in Rwanda gives Bush his props

KIGALI, Rwanda — Bob Geldof has parachuted into the White House travel pool here in Rwanda, and will join us on the flight from Air Force One to Ghana tonight.

He's going to interview President Bush for Time magazine and several European outlets, such as Liberacion, about aid to Africa for HIV/AIDS, malaria, and business development.

Mr. Geldof is an Irish rock and roll singer and longtime social activist who has helped, along with U2 rocker Bono, raise awareness about need in Africa. His most well known achievement is organizing the Live Aid concert in 1985, which raised money for debt relief for poor African countries.

But Mr. Geldof has remained closely engaged with African affairs since then, and he spoke off the cuff to reporters today who were waiting for a press conference with Mr. Bush and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Mr. Geldof praised Mr. Bush for his work in delivering billions to fight disease and poverty in Africa, and blasted the U.S. press for ignoring the achievement.

Mr. Bush, said Mr. Geldof, "has done more than any other president so far."

"This is the triumph of American policy really," he said. "It was probably unexpected of the man. It was expected of the nation, but not of the man, but both rose to the occasion."

"What's in it for [Mr. Bush]? Absolutely nothing," Mr. Geldof said.

Mr. Geldof said that the president has failed "to articulate this to Americans" but said he is also "pissed off" at the press for their failure to report on this good news story.

"You guys didn't pay attention," Geldof said to a group of reporters from all the major newspapers.

Bush administration officials, incidentally, have also been quite displeased with some of the press coverage on this trip that they have viewed as overly negative and ignoring their achievements.

Would we expect anything else from the American press?

Bob in the good old USA 90% of the press is liberal and votes Democrat. Everything is reported by the press is slanted against Republicans and Conservatives. If the Democrats take office this year the USA will become very Socialist in nature and there won't be as much help for Africa. Thats right Democrats are Socialists.

Imagine that....the mainstream press ignoring what President Bush has done for Africa. The real story ought to be the graft and corruption that happens to my tax dollars when they are GIVEN away to these countries. The debt will never be repaid and I'll be stuck giving more of my paycheck away and my family and children suffer. Only in America.

What can you expect from a press who voted for John Kerry by 77% in 2004? They have their agenda, and it aint helping their President.

Thanks for noticing, Bob. Here's the problem with the media "not noticing": They hate George W. Bush. Theirs is a blind and irrational rage.
It's too bad. He really is a good guy.
Again, thanks for noticing.

The press in this country is shameful for essentially throwing a big wet blanket over this huge achievement. Bush could find a cure for cancer, and the press would find negativity in it. Just shameful, and completely un-American.

Preventing terrorist attacks on home soil for 7 years, cutting taxes for married couples and middle class tax payers, liberating two countries, appointing judges who will stand up for the life of unborn and aged people

The press either ignores his accomplishments, or reports them as undesirable.

So what's new here? A musician likes what he's done?

So, it takes a foreign 'rock star' to tell the American press they're (still) doing a bad job.
Hopefully the press will listen to him, they sure don't listen to Americans!

The president has been an excellent leader. the Press will never report this!

Nothing is too good for the Press when it comes to President Bush. They blame him for everything that happens, no matter what. Please give the man some credit, we have been safe for many years in our country. No other President had the challenges that were given to him shortly after taking office. I am proud of President Bush, and I thank him every day that I see that my children and grandchildren are safe.

God Bless this wonderful country.

This is a snapshot of our biggest problem, "MEDIA BIAS". Good done by any non-liberal will either be ignored or villified by the press. If they would hold "all" to the same standards we would all be better off.

Oh, poor Mr.President.

"You guys didn't pay attention," Geldof said to a group of reporters from all the major newspapers.

That kind of makes it even doesn't it. He sends some aid to Africa, yet politicized the Justice Department, signed thousands of dubious signing statements, kept his buddy-in-crime Scooter Libby out of jail, illegally wiretapped on the citizens of the US and gave the telecos a 'get-out-of-jail-free' card, spread lies about Iraq and Iran's nuclear facilities, and said 'Stop throwing the Constitution in my face. It's just a piece of goddamn paper.' He's supposed to DEFEND it.

Please do me a favour, America. At some point in your history, throw this scumbag in jail. He deserves it.

I am not surprised by this. The US press corp is religiuosly Democrat and it would be like comming a crime against their God to give Bush credit for anything good he has done both home and abroad. I commend Bob Geldolf for taking this brave stand. Too bad our press corp in the USA does not have 1% of the courage and the honour you have Mr Geldolf.

President Bush's acheivements have been ignored by this press because when he took office he cut out all the late nite parties and that ruffled the press feathers. They've held a grudge. Had to find other places to get their freebies. Damn dopers running our MSN.

Spends billions in Africa yet can't find the bucks to secure our borders? 25 Americans killed each day by illegal aliens. It seems like Bush cares about everyone else in the world EXCEPT Americans.

Bob, the press ignores anything good that a republican president does. They are always looking to expose flaws and downplay the successess --- that's their MO and it's more important to them then doing what they are supposed to do: report the news. That's why other non-mainstream media outlets do so well in this country. If we relied on the NY Times et al for our news, we'd be very poorly informed.

Geldof is right actually, but the left is so blinded with hate for those of us on the right that we get ZERO credit. The left practice such hypocracy. The right cares about America and freedom abroad and have put money and blood behind the words. Screw the middle east I say invest in Africa.

The media hates Bush so much that they ignore his accomplishments, many of which will be viewed historically as monumental.

Is it any wonder the press treats Bush the way they do, given their blind hatred of the man? Quit acting surprised...

THANK YOU MR. GELDOF FOR NOTING THAT PRESIDENT BUSH, EVEN IF ONE DISAGREES WITH HIM, CAN'T BE WRONG ON EVERYTHING.

PLEASE USE YOU INFLUENCE TO ENLIGHTEN THE PRESIDENT, HIS ADVISORS, THE AFRICANS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT DDT - YES, THE MUCH MALIGNED CHEMICAL - IS NOT THE HAZARD IT HAS BEEN PORTRAYED TO BE AND MAY WELL BE AN INEXPENSIVE SOLUTION TO MALARIA / WEST NILE VIRUS.

HISTORICALLY, MALARIA WAS NEARLY ELIMINATED, WORLDWIDE, IN THE EARLY 1900'S, BY USING DDT TO KILL MOSQUITOES AND THEIR LARVAE.

THANK YOU.

Of Course the media ignored good news about the President and the US in general!! That was a no-brainer prediction. 90% of main stream reporters are self professed Democratic party liberal activists. This means they have an agenda in the way the report or don't report on stories. Their agenda is simply to get Democrats in power any way they can to implement their fantasy utopian nanny state.

What is there to say? Liberal lame stream media will never give credit to Bush for helping Africa. It is because they think that they 'own' the idea, that only they are compassionate and are therefore the only ones who deserve credit - even when they obstruct those who actually deserve it. Bush gets no credit for protecting our country against attack in the WOT because liberals get no credit for it. Bush gets no credit for the ONLY sound idea to save social security - trounced by liberals because there was nothing 'in it' for them to claim. Liberals, left to their natural predilections will do whatever they can to re-mold the USA to resemble pre 1989 Eastern Europe with them in complete control. Once they succeed in that then they will no longer care who gets 'credit' - because IT WILL NOT MATTER ANYMORE.

A little late to the game with the positive analysis/reporting of President Bush's deeds and accomplishments...Better late than never pointing out the media bias toward this president.

Bush has done an enormous amount of good for Africa, the Mideast, the world. History will judge him well.

Thank you, Mr.Geldof, for pointing out the work that President Bush has done to aid Africa. Our media in America, and elsewhere, have abbrogated their rightful position and taken sides politically. We no longer have a fair and unbiased press in America today and their failing numbers reflect that ,sadly. God bless the President for his great work!

I suspect history will disclose even more of the positive actions of our current President. One might hope that it will not be too late when the public catches on to the deliberate distortions and disinformation that have brought us to the point of having no choice but to elect a leader who will take us down a path to the left.

No surprise about the press coverage. The MSM can't bring itself to say or print anything good about this president. I for one am proud of his accomplishments that go unnoticed. That is the great thing about his man, President Bush, he doesn't tout his accomplishments like the Clinton's.
I also do not believe that his approval rating is as bad as they want us to belive either. Something else they are responsible for.

Live Aid in 1985 was for famine relief, not debt relief. As for what Bob Geldof has to say about the American press, he's correct that they have missed the good news about what President Bush has done for Africa. The important question, however, is why have they missed the news. I don't think it's an accident. The press has a strange mental disorder caused by their irrational hatred of one man, George W. Bush. I hope, one day, they are ashamed of their performance as journalists while reporting on the actions of this administration.

Bob Geldof might have been a thug when it came to recruiting people (and stars) for his Africa campaign in the '80s but at least he's consistant. He knows what he wants and what's important to him. I'm glad he doesn't let politics get in the way of his goals and that's respectable.

wow, praise from a leftist. Tell me what obama would do? "Hope?" "Change?" and hillary too? More rhetoric?

I voted for Bush twice. Once happily in 2000 and the other holding my nose in 2004. I was at Live-Aid in Philadelphia when I was 15 - having told my folks I was going to a friend's house. It's very brave of Geldof to say anything positive about Bush as the "elites" in Hollywood & the far-left (which include a majority of the main stream press)of this country have an almost obsession with Bush. They never got over the election of 2000 and haven't gotten over the war in Iraq. While I am greatly disappointed in a lot of areas in his Presidency, I don't think this is a bad man. i think he's a very compassionate man and this is one example of it.

The Press (print media) is useless in this day and age anyway! Why expect them to do their job.

This epitomizes W's presidency, he may not be the best communicator, he doesn't poll and want praise. He just delivers the substance. History will tell the story of a very wise, caring and passoninate president. For his tireless efforts in Africa, as well as his just praise and enlightenment of W, Thank you Bob Geldolf!!

what a joke the US and world media are - just a bunch of ideological lazy hacks. the jokes on them because their heads will be the first to go.

only liberal democrats are allowed to be praised for their humanitarian efforts by the media

President Bush has done countless good deeds during his time in office. He's a humble man, and doesn't ask for recognition. The press hates him and will never give him a kind word. Very sad.

about time

Unbeleivable, a limey prick finally got it. In America it's the dirtbag left thatrules the news outlets. Pass it on.

Unbeleivable, a limey finally got it. In America it's the dirtbag left thatrules the news outlets. Pass it on.

It's the media stupid

Don't want to question the "off the cuff" remarks because that's as close to facts as the washington times ever comes, maybe it's that whole being owned by the Moonies...

But how about following up the cuff remarks with facts. How much aid has gone to Africa under Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton etc.? What has the impact of W's invasion of Iraq had on the Muslim forces in Africa that have subsequently gone on killing sprees in the Sudan and Darfur?

I think we've all learned with W and crew, there is reality and there is their "WMD" fabricated reality.

June 27, 2005
"Over the past four years, we have tripled our assistance to Sub-Sahara Africa." President Bush, Press Conference with Prime Minister Tony Blair, the White House June 7, 2005

The Bush Administration has significantly increased aid to Africa, but that increase falls far short of what the President has claimed. U.S. aid to Africa from FY 2000 (the last full budget year of the Clinton Administration) to FY2004 (the last completed fiscal year of the Bush Administration) has not "tripled" or even doubled. Rather, in real dollars, it has increased 56% (or 67% in nominal dollar terms). The majority of that increase consists of emergency food aid, rather than assistance for sustainable development of the sort Africa needs to achieve lasting poverty reduction.

Wait, a liberal complaining that the press hasn't been reporting the good news? Where has this guy been for the last 8 years? My God liberals are so clueless. All you ever hear from our troops when they come back from Iraq or Afghanistan is that they cant believe what has been making news as opposed to all their success. The press has an agenda, manipulation of public opinion so you will vote the way they want you to vote based on mis-information. The Nazi regime utilized the very same tactics... now isnt that interesting to all you who support the liberal (democrat) agenda...you're being used and manipulated by a bunch of hacks who went to journalism school (ie not rocket scientists). Dont you feel stupid now.

Shame on the Bush Hating Press. Way to Go Mr Geldof.

Gee the press hates Bush? Who'd uh thunk it?

So what else is new? The US press has never had a positive thing to say about Bush.

What?? The U.S. Media and the U.S. press ignored Bush?? Again?? Imagine that.

THIS IS NO SURPRISE,THE ATHEISTIC LEFT WING MEDIA HAVE NO MORAL STANDARDS BASED ON JUDEAN-CHRISTIAN TEACHINGS AND PHILOSPHY

Of course Bob Geldolf hasn't heard about it from the US media. I wonder if Mr Geldolf knows that the reason he hasn't heard about it is due to the liberal agenda of vast majority of the news media in America? The likes of ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, et all are still in love with Bill Clinton and the rest of the liberals who have done NOTHING for Africa but lip service.

The various vaccine and food programs forced on Africans are part of the global elite's eugenics program. Population reduction begins in Africa. Don't buy the crap that the Bush family and the monied foundations are managing Africa's food resources and vaccinations for altruistic reasons. And hucksters like Geldorf and Bono know the score. www.infowars.com (watch the video 'Endgame' online, for free)

It does not surprise me that the press ignored this totally. Its really a right left thing. If it's anything positive Bush has done it does not get reported. Does not matter if its student test scores, prescription drug benefits or bringing the North Koreans to the table over nuclear disarmamnent. It's a great thing he has done, Africa has been ignored for too long.

Thank you, thank you Mr. Geldof for standing up for a President who has done MORE than any other President for the people of Africa. The world will never be told the truth by the press.

Thank you, Bob Geldof, for noticing.

If Bush brought the Iraq troops home, waived a magic wand over New Orleans or kissed Harry Reid's rear end, he still would not get any praise from the press. The press hatred of Bush is because those spoiled children never got over that he was elected and re-elcted as President. The press is really the socialist elite in the US. I hate the press.

Of course the US MSM won't report on it, they are all lined up against President Bush. President Bush has done many great things not the least of which is bringing democracy to the middle east.

He's set aside huge areas of ocean off the coast of Hawaii to be saved from over fishing to ensure our children can enjoy them rather than allow them to be destroyed by fishing trawlers, he's helped Africans more than any other president but what does he get for it. That same tired false narrative "Bush lied....." baloney. History will judge him well just as history will show the partisan lies for what they were

I'm glad to see Geldof still speaks the truth no matter how politically incorrect it is!

It's easy to spend other people's money...

The liberal press would rather drink battery acid than ever acknowledge an accomplishment from Bush. I would be willing to bet that any minute they will be diminishing Geldof's importance in African affairs.

Welcome to the Republican party, Mr Geldof. Now you see what we have been dealing with all these years. Look at our current situation with our boys-n-girls in Iraq. While it was bad, the media were covering it everyday telling us how much death and destruction was going on over there. Now that it is good.... NADA. We hear nothing about what goes on over there now. I don't remember the last time I saw ANY news outlet give a report on Iraq. Well, just another example of the constant bias we all have to deal with.

The American press is overwhelmingly biased when it comes to politics. Good deeds performed by politicians are only reported if the politician is affiliated with the Democratic Party. They will never admit this face.

I personally believe that this President has a good heart. I knew that this "good news" will never surface in any big snooty newspaper i.e New York Times. Why? As what you have said this is good news. We knew that cloven hoof doesn't want to hear any of this good news. It's only the bad news they were looking for Mr. Bush nothing else, and that how they tickle their readers.
May God bless George W. Bush, and the American people who believe in him.

Mrs. Davis of Louisiana
P.S. Just wait for days how these garbage newspaper will turn this good news into bad news.

The American media would never report on anything good or positive concerning President Bush. I do not believe anything they print or report anymore. They are bias and only put forth their agendas. The media today is a joke.

The press is too busy presiding over the collapse of the US economy that they helped create when they started talking about the Real Estate "bubble" bursting a year and a half ago. They created that self-fulfilling prophecy and continue to promote the economic doom and gloom as a way of denigrating the Bush presidency. They are close to knocking out the main leg of the economy, consumer confidence, and if that pillar is removed they will have the prize, a major recession. The Media is our new, most powerful political force that we have elected with our TV remotes.

Once again the "LIB" press ingnores good deeds by a President they detest because he lacks the "Gravitas" of John Kerry or Teddy Kennedy both burned out hacks who greatest achievements, in Kennedy's case avoiding a murder rap and in Kerry's storming up the Potomac River in hot pursuit of Viet Cong(real or imagined). Can you imagine the fawning adulation "Slick Willy" would have received from the "Drive by Media" if he had either the moral courage or foresight to accomplish what Bush has in fighting aids, malaria and poverty? Unfortunately in this 24/7 news enviroment piling on Bush is perfectly acceptable while it is "Hands Off" the reprobates blessed with self-annointed Gravitas. Ryan From BC

The press reaction is to be expected. When will the American people wake up and realize that the press has been totally unfair to President Bush and his policies, and demand fairness. They seem to demand fairness in every other aspect of our life. Unfortunately to President Bush's detriment, he does a very poor job of articulating his policies, positions and achievements.

This is how the Democratic Party government controlled press tilts elections. Positive propaganda all day for liberals and liberal causes and negative propaganda all day for republicans and conservative causes. This is call brain-washing especially for young Americans.

Wow, imagine that the press would go out of its' way to say negative things about Bush and downplay or ignore good things that he has done. I can't believe it. That would mean that Bush isn't Satan and the left can't have that now can they!

Its about time someone said something positive about GWB. Give credit when credit is due./////TH

Why does Bush have to articulate what he is doing in Africa to the American people? For a decade the American people were asking Clinton and his cronies to help Africa and all they did was throw a couple bucks and did a lot of news time about how they are helping Africa. Now that we actually have a president who is actually doing something of worth but does not go around toting what we ought to be doing in the first place all we get it whine and complain from the far-left media.

Well with the way they have spun everything Bush is done its no wonder that he gave them the cold shoulder and siad "screw you, I am going to keep doing what needs to be morally done". Whether or not Bush articulates what is going on in Africa is irrelevant. What matters is that he is doing and not just talking like Clinton, Gore, and all the other pathetic pundits have been doing for years and have failed to act upon.

Good day!

"You guys didn't pay attention," Geldof said to a group of reporters from all the major newspapers.

They do Bob, you just haven't figured out they are biased, Democrats, yet.

What else would you expect from America and the Liberal press? No one in the world acknowledges the billions of dollars that private US citzens give to charities that help the poor all over the world. We are a christian nation. Christians help the poor without expecting anything in return. We call this the christian compact. The liberal press in America is not christian institution. It is liberal and socialist. It believes that governement should be the center of everything good and proper. The liberal press in America would never celebrate the achievements of President Bush in helping the poor around the world. This would force them to praise President Bush, which would conflict with their constant drum beat of negativity. Bush stole the election. Bush lied. Bush lacks gravitas. Bush is a war monger. Bush helps the rich.

The simple fact is that the workd can only solve the problems in Africa once the world confronts the corrupt governements ion Africa. I am sure that colonialism did its fair share of destruction to African societies. I am also sure that men like Taylor, Mugabe, Idi Amin, and many others also did and are still doing their fair share of destruction to Afircan society. Throw in agricultural subsidies, the corruption caused by precious stones, gold, oil and other natural resources, and the blind geopolitical ambitions of countries and isalmic terrorists and you will find many addtional causes for the pain suffered by the people of Africa. The solution to all these problems is the rule of law, democracy, and free trade. Then the indivdiual nations and people of Africa will be able to contribute to global prosperity and enrich themselves by ending tyranny and embracing liberty.

We've had 7 yrs of the MSM doing their normal stuff. The MSM should be proud of a disservice they have done to the country and to this President. I hope they sleep good at night. They will never gain my trust..ever again.

President Bush not recieving good news stories from the press? Noooooo.

I truly agree that President Bush has done remarkably well towards Africa than any U.S. President. He would be remembered for his generosity and kindness. Had he not been persuaded by the Iraq War, and the huge financial and human burden, he would have entirely been the ultimate passionate conservative. He is generally kind and loving person.

Hey Bob!

You should never, ever say that the media did not pay attention to what Bush was doing in Africa. They were in fact watching his every move and praying for him to stumble. If there was anything he did, from a miscue to a mistatement, you can be sure they would not have missed the chance to gleefully report it. But to report anything positive that Bush would do is just not on their agenda. It goes against their world view. It's not in their DNA. Maybe guys like you can shame them. No wait, they have no shame. But thanks again for your fine work on behalf of Africa.

We are going to miss George W Bush for a lot of reason, he was an outstanding President

President Bush has also spent more on education in America (and abroad for that matter) than the last 4 administrations combined!

Does this surprise anyone! Any Nobel Peace Prizes nomination? Only clowns like Al Gore gets that for inventing the Internet and the great Global Warming Con Job. Ok repeat after me.Bush is bad,Bush is evil, Bush is liar,Bush dont care about black people.OK..feel better now?

What matters is results. Not legacy, not Press coverage, but humanity.

It's disgusting and dishonest of the press, but what can you expect? Nowadays, it's the norm and pretty much accepted that reporters are biased and dishonest. Shameful really.

I see nothing in this article about the trip or it's accomplishments. This is all about Bob and your lack of reporting. Once again you have been negative and "You guys didn't pay attention,"

I'm no fan of his, but it's PRESIDENT Bush (for now, anyways) not Mr. Bush.

God bless Bob Geldof, not only for his lifelong work on behalf of the poor, but for his brave honesty with regard to President Bush. His character towers above that of the press types he's criticising.

this is what I meant when I said I've read bush has actually done a lot in Africa
Mr. Bush, said Mr. Geldof, "has done more than any other president so far."
"This is the triumph of American policy really," he said. "It was probably unexpected of the man. It was expected of the nation, but not of the man, but both rose to the occasion."What's in it for [Mr. Bush]? Absolutely nothing," Mr. Geldof said.

Mr. Geldof is an Irish rock and roll singer and longtime social activist who has helped, along with U2 rocker Bono, raise awareness about need in Africa. His most well known achievement is organizing the Live Aid concert in 1985, which raised money for debt relief for poor African countries.

So true, I don't even read american papers anymore... I sometimes read the Financial Times, because every reporter here is just out for themselves or their "point-of-view" reporting which is filled with personal bias.

President George Bush will in all reality go into history as one of the greats. History points out that those who have taken major steps in a new direction - especially during times of crisis - have been vilified by the press and the opposition, and become enshrined as examples of the country's most remembered.

Like President Reagan, the dinosaur media is blinded in their agenda against capitalism, christian beliefs, and their out-right hatred of President Bush. I too haven't followed Bush's (and I guess mine as a taxpayer) achievements here in Africa, but will continue to support our attempts to make Africa free from corruption, Islamac-fanatics, and genocidal socialism.

The press acts like they are trying to be a voice to the people, but they are only a voice to themselves and their liberal friends. The press should be ashamed of themselves, not proud of themselves. They should be reporting the good, the bad, and the ugly. They only report the bad and the ugly. They are afraid that reporting the good will get them shunned by their liberal friends. They are no better than some of our elected officials and their ratings with the people prove it. Shame on them!

Anyone that thinks the U.S. msm is liberal should travel to Europe and watch the news sometime, you'll see you're way off base. Only a fool would defend Bush at this stage, the media won't let him get away with the atrocities he has committed since he has taken office. To say that this man was a great president is about the most absurd statement I've heard in a while - tell it to the hundreds of thousands of innocent, dead Iraqis, or anyone else anywhere in the world for that matter (except Israel).

Keep on dreamin

Hyung

And all the liberal press is wondering why people aren't reading the paper anymore... I must say I laughed with glee when the LA Times laid off more staff. Good Bye MSM.... you deserve what you have sown.
Notice how light the reporting has been for the poorest continent in the world.... yeah, great Ivy League reporters... their liberal interests obviously outweighs their hearts.

I'm wondering how many of you who are turning this into "the democrats and the liberal media are hiding the good things President Bush is doing" would be doing the same if you were in a position of power. If a Democrat President was providing Africa with unprescedented aid, you'd be screaming how we are overspending, and not concentrating on real American problems like the economy, Iraq, and immigatration. I applaud President Bush for his role in Africa, and I wish it was played up, but the real evil is everyone's blind faith in political parties, and desire to make blanket statements and assign blame, and the inability to look at issues objectively. The fact that this is underreported in my mind has little to do with the democrats or a liberal media, and more to do with the fact that our society dwells on all bad news and underreports most good news.

Bush didn't give away his money, it was our the taxpayers money, that was easy for him, he's been doing it for about 8 yrs now!!!

It is ignored because Mr. Bush does not fit the liberal/socialist agenda of the press. Yes, our press is free, but in large part it is also grossly biased towards liberalism. Examples of this abount and scholarly studies confirm it.

No, Jim beaux, no prize for Bush. We're so moved by the socialists' grandstanding and perennial promises that we have no room in our hearts for actual, un-trumpeted accomplishment.

Libs love to be negative, it's no secret in the US, others outside may be surprised by our media only focusing on the negative aspects of any Right-leaning official. In the US, only idiots take the press seriously or without confirmation, because of the liberal bias

I don't know why anyone in the US subscribes to a major newspaper any longer. And that's from an ex-newspaperman.

"What matters is results. Not legacy, not Press coverage, but humanity." Exactly right Dave. The lack of attention by the MSM for the good that Bush has done in Africa is expected. Clinton stood by while 800,000 Rwandans died, the MSM was similarly quiet about that but for a different reason. He's their guy.

It's about time someone said something nice about President Bush. Most people are too wrapped in their hatred to see the good in him.

Kudos President Bush!

>When will the American people wake up and >realize that the press has been totally unfair >to President Bush and his policies, and demand >fairness.

Umm, have you checked the network news ratings or major newpaper circulations lately? I'd say most Americans are going anywhere but the lamestream media for their information.

Bob Geldof is an idiot! How much of his money has he given to Africa?

He want's everyone else to throw money at Africa's problems while he keeps his.

He should stick to his crappy music.

Bush has his faults, but what have Putin, Chavez and the Hitler of Iran done for Africa?

Great. Bush should be president of Africa.
Its the first time I've read that Bush has accomplished anything.
What is this Liberal press junk? He's a bad president with bad policies. Your dollar in your pocket has lost quit a bit of its value during this administration....and its due to his policies.

In response to David Newton:

I give to numerous charities. I donate my time to cancer research and other "good" things.

I am not a Christian. This is NOT a Christian nation. Christianity has NOTHING to do with kindness.

That too is a bias and I am tired of it.

Pay back to you goofy Republicans. We (NY media) knew that Bush was doing good work in Africa (among other places)because they truly needed it. But we also knew that if the word got out it would hurt our chances to take the congress in 2006 and the power of the presidency in 2008. Frankly we had no choice but to reveal it now because they are treating Bush as a hero in Africa and some TV is leaking out.
But the good news is even if enough people find out the positive things Bush has done, we think it is too late for a change to be made to reverse public opinion we have mounted against him. Never...I repeat NEVER count us liberals out of the picture. The NY/Hollywood media is ours and we proved we can make it work to our advantage. Say hello to President Obama!

ok, great job Geldof and Bush! But, come on you guys... Bush has done a lot of crap over the past two terms! He's now on the offensive for cleaning up his legacy, since his polls are the lowest ever. Let's be honest here: he messed up a lot, and now he's doing good. I'm no Bush supporter, but I am amazed at what he's doing now! I hope he keeps this up!

The main reason the MSM calls the President, Mr Bush, is they never felt he was "their" President because VP Gore got more votes then President Bush. It was always the standard prior to that they always refer to the man holding the office as President. But the MSM has dumbed that down an now its meaningless. They said that the President was prejudiced during Katrina, but I recall intereviews with survivors in Houston an Baton Rouge, that the folks did not blame the President, but the local authorities, who just happened to be Demos. Remember the 500 school buses that could have carried out alot of those folks at the Dome. I notice on MSNBC they have no respect for the President.

I can only say that I loathe, scorn, detest, abhor, and literally despise the liberal scum pond press.

But what tops my loathing of them, is their denial that they are liberal. Instead they purport to represent average "middle of the road" folks.

Only the press could be this delusional.

History is going to be very kind to W! It's a pity no one sees it now. I am sure Washington is scrambling today as Democrats will line up to congratulate themselves.

I'm just glad to see comments that aren't biased.

The Press is a tool used by the Elitists, Bankers and their ilk to promote their one world bank (government) agenda. They keep us divided and compartmentalized, and through their efforts, use the media like Time Magazine to brainwash Americans and the world. If anyone ever knew the truth, the revolution that would ensue would shake the foundation of this planet, and there's going to be hell to pay one day. You just wait and see.

While Bush has apparently done a poor job articulating his achievements, the truth of the matter is he has addressed America in more speeches and television airtime than any President to date.

He's spent like a drunken sailor everywhere else...why not on this? We Americans give more than any other nation in the world, and good for BG for saying something. One other thing should be said, however...."Bono's a wanker"!!!!!!

What? Pure nonsense. Bush only does things to support his buddies in the oil biz.
Like supporting the government of the Sudan and their campaign of genocide against non-Muslim blacks
Wait, that's France and China!
Giving into terrorist groups...
Wait, that is Spain
Not helping in New Orleans...
Wait, that is the responsibility of the city and state governments
Well, he overthrew the legitimate government of Afghanistan, turning a once beautiful country with an excellent human rights record into a cynical democracy

This is so funny. A musician, who is probably liberal much of the time, chastises the American left. What a hoot!

"The future of the world will be determined by free people." GWBush, an emancipation proclamation for the entire world.

Ditto Iraq.

Dont give us the "if it bleeds it leads" crap. Report the story.

The media has a responsibility to give us the straight news, not some narrative they make up.

No one votes for them. They have unchecked power only mitigated to a certain extent from the "new media."

The press has been unfair to the President for years...., I believe the historians will be more so down the path of history.

The Financial Times, the WSJ, and the Economist are the only print media you can trust. As for television, CSPAN or maybe Meet the Press.

Everything else has a huge liberal slant. It's pretty sad. The media needs to get back to real reporting, as opposed to being a mouthpiece for the left.

Give me a break. The story doesn't list one thing the Bush accomplished on his trip. What did he accomplish? We don't know, all we know is that the press is being supposedly mean to him.

Folks,

Mr Geldof has highlighted two problems re: Pres Bush:

1. His inability to articulate the achievements of his administration have severely limited the praise that he and his respective teams deserve, on some fronts at least.

2. The constant suppression of any good news by the liberal media re: Pres Bush's administration. For eg, how come the US press is completely mum re: the troop surge in Iraq? Why are we not celebrating this achievement of Pres Bush, Gen Petraeus, the Iraqi politicians, etc?

I am very happy that Sir Geldof is man enough to praise Pres Bush, when praise is due. I am praying that history and historians, many years from now, devoid of any ideological/political agenda, will be kinder to this President.

This President deserves a lot of praise for keeping this country safe after 9/11, for his ability to fight extremist Islamists, his tax cuts and his continual support of small businesses and small business owners. Alas, the PBS', NPRs and NYTs of the world will conveniently ignore those achievements.

I do not agree with all George Bush policy but i do have to agree that Bush has done more than a lot of other presidents for Africa.

Thanks, Sir Bob. Your objectivity and honesty are refreshing, when compared to the partisan/ideological obfuscation that comes from so many in the entertainment biz.

Freedom is a fleeting state is the USA. The media and the liberals shall see to it that this democracy falls. Then they will control what people see and impose their will and control upon us.Soon shall come a new dictator. The hell with the constitution.

This is the goal and why Bush has been vilified for spreading the hope of freedom, health and prosperity.

Gore had 8 years as the second in command to achieve something good for mankind and is known for nothing.

Teddy...well it's the only job he could get. Living off the legacy of his father and brothers.

It is heartening to see the outrage with the press re lack of positive coverage to President Bush's accomplishments.
There is still hope!!

President Bush is a great Leader, the only reason his numbers are down (and who cares anyway) is because the press relentlessly bashes him. I have a dream, the drive by media goes out of business. Let the truth begin.

I love how everyone jumps on Bush for Iraq. Betting all those people never moved to Sydney when they were 16 and spent a year knowing a family of Iraqi Kurdish refugees.
In 1948 we ratified the Genocode Convention in the UN. Never again we said. Now we have "acts of genocide", but its not genocide, its only "acts of genocide". Dont worry everything is okay, we fixed it semantically.

It's nice to hear something positive about G.W.B.
I have a lot of respect for man that can stand by his convictions.

If I hadn't seen this on the Drudge Report, I would not have known about this at all. Just goes to show how much the MSM hates GWB. This is an important story and deserve national press coverage...

Don't hold your breath!

It's not politically correct to say anything positive about Bush. In liberal mythology, a politician is either "good" or "evil." It has nothing to do with the totality of their career. For example, Teddy Kennedy, the hero of Chappaquiddick is "good." George W. Bush is bad because liberals are against the war in Iraq (or any war anywhere for any reason.)

Good work Mr. Geldof, and good work Mr. President. As for the press that they have not given George W any praise? Not surprised, they hate the man who like or not continues to fight for power of democracy that gives them the opportunity to slam him 9.9 times out of 10. Jon, I am glad to see you broke the trend!

President Bush is disliked because his intelligence is in action, not words. A lesson here for Senator Obama, whose words are now wearing thin.

The US press should be ashamed of themselves and they should all be forced to return to college and repeat ethics in journalism. For they are leftist biased hateful jaded lying cheating stealing reprobates in other words democrats.

While I'm not a full on "right-side" and I've never considered myself a conservitive or liberal, I have to say I believe the president has been lambasted by many, but I also think he's brougth alot of this on to himself. I will say I agree he hasn't nearly gotten the attention he deserves on the good he's done (particulairly on Aid domestically and world wide), while I still believe he deserves the negative attention he's received on his foreign polocies and "THE WAR". Interestingly enough, it's interesting to look at him in a humanitairian way, only because of his two sides, I.E. the war...Africa. I will say that I think what hurt his view as a humanitairian ultimatly was the way we as a nationa handled Katrina, that I feel in my young life was such a discrace....

I saw it all over the tube Bush in Africa
and doesnt rupert murdoch own over half the english speaking media on planet earth?
liberla media?

I remember the appropriations bill for substantial aid in Africa, but then the story died in the media and I was hard-pressed to find any mention of it. Bush will be well treated in the pages of history and he deserves it; a man who persevered when the media objected to most of his policies.

Iraq can now be classified a major success on the world stage and that leaves only Iran and Syria to go...

Interesting, not one anti-Bush,liberal comment yet. Must mean libs don't read articles that report President Bush in a positive manner.

I am glad to hear something positive for once. I may be green party, but I prefer good news over bad news. And after years and years of bad news, theres finally some good news. I may not agree with some of bush's policies (wiretapping, loss of personal freedoms) but i wil give credit where credit is due.

kudos.

It seems to me that the Current Occupant of the White House has saved his most effective policies for people that are not even on his continent, much less in his country.

Bush was running for POTUS. It's clear that the job of President of Tanzania, or Albania, will be available to him after he flees the White House.

Bush has not done a damned thing for Americans. And he can go to hell, as far as I am concerned.

GWB told the BBC in a pre-trip interview that he doesn't care about credit, he cares about results and so do I. His strategy has been to give them a helping hand without making them dependent on the U.S. Glad We the American people did something about Africa, but there's so much more to do. Hope the next prez, Dem or GOP, does even more. As GWB says, not only is it our moral duty but impoverished people are ripe for recruiting by those who would bring down the free world.

It's not unexpected from me about Bush. Liberals still can't give Bush credit for being a good man. "Unexpected from the man" that he would help Africa. Give me a freaking break. And Geldof's hero the loving and caring "I feel your pain" Bill Clinton did nothing and sat idly by while a million Rawandan's chopped each other to pieces with machetes and he's the first black president. Was that "expected of the man" Bill Clinton. In my mind yes it was.

Maybe Mrs. Obama will be proud of the USA now

Clinton did nothing about the genocide in Rwanda. He confessed to this failings after he left office. While he was doing nothing about Rwanda, he made a showy trip, well-covered by the media, in which he apologized to Africa for U.S. slavery. Whether the label was justified or not, Colin Powell under Bush denounced as genocide what Sudan is doing to Darfur with the help of China. The U.S. is trying to do something about Darfur under Bush. And Biden called for an air blockade--an act of pre-emptive war. Richardson called for a boycott of the Olympics. China did at least do something after U.S. pressure. A list of countries that become more pro-U.S. and pro-Bush in the past seven years includes: Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Japan, Germany, France, Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and, most likely after the next elections, Italy. It turns out that the continent of Africa has been helped immensely by the U.S. under Bush and is almost as happy with Bush as Eastern Europe showed itself to be during a U.S. visit.

I only hope that in future years all the good that Bush has accomplished translates into a positive and lasting legacy for this great President!

The Press is liberal, biased and adverse to giving any credit to President Bush. Overwhelmingly, the press votes Democrat and skews their stories thusly. The only good news is that the New York Times, LA Times and other lib newspapers are declining in readership, power and revenue. It's up to America's Citizens to put out the good news through sites and blogs, make YouTube videos and more. The Press will be further discredited and decline accordingly. We can't stand by but must take action.

You mean to say that the MSM is actually biased?
I am shocked! Shocked, I'll tell you!

Just one question...if you were to survey Americans right now, what percentage would you think know that the President is in Africa right now? 5%? 10%? At most. And this is a guy who has probably saved more African lives than anyone by a long shot.
But ask Americans if Obama is African-American, and 90% will answer yes. Yet, Obama is 100% white on his mother's side and way less than 50% African American on his Dad's side (he is actually mostly of Arab descent on his father's side). Interesting how the press reports things selectively, isn't it?

Ronald Reagan was relentlessly bashed by the media during his two momumental terms during the 1980's. When he died, it was pathetic watching the liberal media pander to the memory of a man that the despised so much. But they had no choice in the matter because of how beloved President Reagan was by the American public.

I believe the same will be true of George W. Bush, I just hope that he doesn't have to die before he can see it. The outcomes in Africa and Iraq are historic events that will give President Bush a legacy that Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Kennedy, etc., would give their right arms to have.

God bless George W. Bush and all the good that he has done for Africa, as well as our own people here in the United States.

Praise for GWB? How Un-american. America has nothing to be proud of. Nothing. That's at least what we're being taught today by some. Sigh.

Unfortunately, Mr. Geldof didn't get the memo that you're supposed to bash the all republican presidents in order to gain street cred. He needed to go all Kanye West on him, which would've won him a grammy or some lifetime achievement award next year.

there is no 'left' there is no 'right'. You are all being manipulated by the same satan; greed. Our lust for money from the press to the president is what's killing this country. not liberals, not conservatives.

torture is wrong by the way, i hope you all know that for there will be no heaven for those who condone torture.

Coverage for long term health and economic benefits for impoverished African countries as the result of the policies of a REPUBLICAN president? Are you serious? The U.S. press corps is too busy blaming this Administration for the world's ills and covering celebrity meltdowns and adoptions of a handful of African children. The liberal elite in this country just want to TALK about the problem. They have no interest in putting politics aside to be a part of any real solutions. I, for one, offer thanks to this President for doing more than just recognizing the obvious: that, in this day and age, thousands of children should not be dying of preventable diseases like malaria. (And kudos to Bod Geldof for giving credit where credit is due.)

Bob Geldof applauds G.W. Bush because they are both "big government" men. Typically, Bush is spending the people's money buying big weapons and waging war. This is infuriating to liberals, but just as unconstitutional, and fundamentally as immoral, is spending the people's money on gifts to the world's needy in programs that have no lasting impact (what good can be seen today that resulted from the LiveAid prodding of world governments in 1985?), but serve only to assuage the consciences of war-mongering politicians. I will be impressed with George W Bush when, after he leaves office, he continues to spend lavishly upon the poor in Africa with his money and the money of his wealthy friends instead of that robbed from the American taxpayer.

HEY BOB,

Wake up and smell the coffee. The media is twisted toward the left and Bush hasn't gotten credit for anything positive. You can't say that his "approval ratings" haven't been affected by the media. By damn, it's time for someone who isn't scared to report the truth. There are so many sheep out there in the media, it's ridiculous. Hire me Bob, I'll report on the truth. I'll free lance for you for not much money at all. I'm not afraid to go against the grain. When is the last time you've ever seen a journalist with true courage? I'll be your first reporter for the Geldof Press (That has a good ring to it, wouldn't you say?)

Judging from the U.S. newspapers this week, one would hardly even know that Bush was IN Africa.

The press are the propaganda organ of their politics.

I congratulate Mr.Geldof for his candidness ... when it is popular to bash President Bush one man stands up for him and the truth.

History will be kind to President Bush ... but not to the media ... the media is too busy dealing with its liberal bias and cannot or will not address the truth.

I agree with most of you, the Lib press have been ignoring the good stuff, but critical of Bush.
Have you wonder why major newspapers are down in sales and advertisers? NY and L.A. Times are laying off people. Why are certain liberal networks down viewers? Ratings are down for NBC and CBS.
I think the public has recognized the poor job the lib media and lopsided as well, covering the good, the bad, and the ugly. Lib media only covers the last two.

Let's be fair here: if the nation has been more giving of itself under bush's regime, then kudos to W. i don't hate him, per se, and i don't disagree with all of his policies...but let's not overlook the otherwise catastrophic effect he's had on this nation. african aid notwithstanding, he is the worst president this nation has had to endure, and has presided over the most corrupt congress I can recall. republicans everywhere should feel angry and cheated, because he is a high-spending, big government phony who cares more about cronyism than doing what's best for the nation, and for his party.

How dare anyone possess a dissenting opinion after all the money and time spent by a system controlled by fewer and fewer monsters. Since most of us grew up with monsters, it just doesn't seem all that bad. But it really is .

I am as conservative as the next guy, but why we are spending hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars on Africa or any other foriegn outpost is beyond me. I don't know where in the US Constitution where spending money on foreign "aid" is allowed, but then again, I'm not a revisionist judge.

The Drive-By Media has made itself irrelevant to a large portion of the population by their arrogance in not reporting honest news about President Bush's achievements in the War against Islamic Terrorism, his successes with the Economy, and now his successes in Africa.

Meanwhile the NY Times, LA Times, etc, as well as all the local papers that follow their lead are losing subscribers left and right. They will keep their heads buried in their nether regions until they lose their entire business to the Internet which, quite happily, is beyond their control.

Way to go Sir Bob

I remember the press falling all over themselves when Bill Clinton went to Africa and apologized for slavery. See here: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/9804/02/clinton.africa/

Of course that was in 1998 and was probably Clinton's first big apology of the year.

I really hope history remembers George W. Bush as a genuinely compassionate president who acted with deeds and actions and truly and cared about those less fortunate. He's also done more for AIDS research than Bill Clinton ever did. Many thanks to Bob Geldof for for all he's done and for recognizing W's accomplishments.

Ivonncita,

Perhaps you can mention this article when you see Richard. I send it because it is a comment from someone who is not from the U.S.

I love you. El Chinito

I believe it's something of a badge of honor for a leader to be criticized by today's media in the U.S.. When said media's lust for ratings or circulation comes completely at the expense of objectivity and accuracy, the results of their efforts should not be counted on for truthfulness.

I agree with Jay above in that President Bush will be far more positively "reviewed" as world events unfold and his convictions are more and more clearly vindicated.

Finally, I'm quite sick and tired of our leaders giving their greatest efforts to telling me what thay've done (or if they're candidates, what they will do) for me. Give me the quiet, sensible, principled leadership of GW anyday compared to the simpering whines and position-less promises of liberals in our midst.

Hmm. According to the liberal hate Americans the world doesn't like us. I guess Africa doesn't count in their eyes!

I have supported my President since he was running for office because I sensed his innate courage, conviction, and reverence for freedom as a human right, not just an American right. It has sometimes been very hard to be subjected to all the hate from the left for him. I know that history will judge him for the true strong and humble spirit that he is. God blessed us for giving us this great (albeit articulativly flawed) leader at such a pivotal time in our world's history. Where would we be now if the U.S. had given in to the defeatists and terrorists instead of standing strong for freedom? Thank you Mr. Geldoff for bringing one of Prsident Bush's many accomplishments to the light of day. He will be missed.

President Bush has some policies which are not good for this country. His stand on immigration and his stubborn stance to join America with Mexico and Canada by way of the Superhighway to name a few. The belief he is doing the correct thing is a fallacy and in the end will cause America to be radically different from the one we know today. I firmly believe we have a good President in GWB and am proud of what he has accomplished while in office, for the many hurting people in other countries----but if he doesn't change his stance on these other problems there will be no America to be the watchdog of the world.

SO there was no msm coverage of this. I thought Fox was fair and balanced. Did they not report the story?

who cares about africa ? Thats why the press ignored it. He has done so much bad for his own people - who cares what he does for africa. Wake up people.

While you can't quantify the loss of a single human life, the "huge financial and human burden" of the current war is like a mosquito bite to that of World War II. Yet anyone with vision, forsight and common logic can see that we could have survived by giving up and letting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans protect us. Not anymore. We lose this one and it's all over. It's not now and never has been a war of choice.

Of course President Bush's Africa Policy goes unreported!!! To do otherwise would undermine the template that has been the modus operandi of the drive-by media for the past forty years or more: Paint republicans as heartless, greedy, dirty, rotten bastages, while portraying democrats as compassionate, altruistic, pious and benevolent progressives.

To report the truth would upend the apple cart and cause the dinosaur drive-by media to lose ground in their collective desire to shackle the United Stated of America with a collectivist, socialist society where the media elites and their usual accomplices control all things culturally, societally, economically and spiritually. In other words, they would be stalled in their drive to force upon us their prescription of all things UN-AMERICAN!!!

In Your Face, Kanye!

I'm happy to see that Bob Geldof is acknowledging what so many have refused in the media. I love his role in Pink Floyd's "The Wall", a brilliant movie. I commend him on his courage to stand up to the disgustingly left-wing influenced media. He may no longer be accepted by Hollywood's elite because of this. I'm glad someone out there is choosing to do the right thing, even if it pisses off a lot of celebrities.
The only reason why Hollywood types do anything for charity is to get to go to an expensive coctail party with other brainless celebrities, to praise each other for shallow attempts at good will. That means you George Clooney (you putts).
Bob Geldof and Bono have been making a real difference for a long time. They know how much effort it takes to bring awareness to important issues. It's nice to see George W. finally get some credit.
Thanks Bob. You Rock!

Mr. Geldoff couldn't be further from the truth.
It is the United States that has done more for Africa and the fight for aids than any other one person or country. When will the United States realize that other countries are parasites looking towards America to continue to give while the least responsible go unnoticed?

Next time on a trip like that, as the Press Corp goes to board AF One at Andrews, if I were Pres Bush I'd stand at the bottom of the stairs and tell them no thanks, we're going alone since all we've done is give you a free plane ride so you can come and not report good news, so stay home or find your own way over there because the American taxpayer isn't paying your travel costs for you to continue to be the LIB arrogant as_es and print your garbage. Have a nice day, then turn and board the plane and leave them standing on the tarmac gaping.

Anyone suprised? Just look at the complete news coverage void on Iraq right now. Did we leave Iraq? No.

So what has changed? Everything. The surge worked, stability is being achieved, government getting it's act together, and the list goes on. Media goes into black-out when it comes to good news in this administration.

Meanwhile hacks like Lou Dobbs gets to have a banner under his vacuous commentary on the "failing" economy (which is rubbish) for ten minutes that reads "War on the middle class". Ridiculous, dishonest and irresponsible.

The left-wing media will never give this president any credit. They hate him so much that his only press is bad. So much for honest journalism. Is it any wonder that Americans aren't reading the left-wing newspapers and watching the likes of NBC, CBS, CNN, etc.?

Go, Mr. Geldof! Thank you for highlighting the fact that the liberal press picks and chooses their stories in such as way as to bring excess attention to negative stories and NO attention to the positive stories of the Bush Administration. It is no accident!

I firmly believe that in the long run George W. Bush will go down in history as a strong and moral President who held to his beliefs with integrity and conviction, even in the face of negative press and polls. Unlike the Clintons, GWB is not afraid of doing what is RIGHT for the country even when the country might not like it.

Thanks! I finally had a reason to Smile today! Some "GOOD" news has finally been reported on

Well, it's not just the "liberal" media. Fox Noise hasn't exactly been making much noise either. Meanwhile, Kaiser Foundation, which tends towards liberal, has kept me well-informed about these initiatives, with positive statements about GWB. People who are involved in world health issues are actually aware of this, whatever side of the political fence they stand on. Makes me wonder if this sort of aid goes against the values of the far right, so Rove etc. have kept it flying under everyone's radar.

GWB is a total failure in the PR department, at every level. It's not just the "liberal" media's fault. The man is just clueless about presentation, and the people around him (cough*Rove*cough*Rumsfeld*cough) only know how to say "my way or the highway" which isn't exactly how to win hearts and minds. The Rumsfeld comment, by the way, comes straight from an extremely conservative retired army man who actually conferred with Rummy.

Far more than this.
Bush has committed more to alternative energy than any other. Al and Billary talk alot, but Bush is delivering.

Bush Committed to Africa. Others just felt sorry.

Education Reform. He Tried. Others Talked. He worked with Kennedy. Liberals blasted him.

Terrorism. Foremost is protection of America. Media cuts it down at every opportunity.

Appointments. Perhaps the most racially diverse in history. FAR outweighing previous administrations. But he is a racist. Has to be.

Women appointed women to high level posts. But they were conservative. Must be a rat in here someplace.

Sought to direct America toward energy independence. Previous talkers lauded. Bush abhorred.

Hugh increase in jobs. Heard nothing since losses at beginning of administration.

Instituted policies to encourage voluntarism. Bill wrote a book.

Bottom Line if a liberal did half of what Bush has done they would be lauded as the greatest president of the century.

You may not agree with all of his positions. I don't agree with all. But have the integrity to give him due where he has it coming.

Bush has promised less funding for AIDS than Congress has already passed! That is how Bush fools us. He sounds great, but look deeper, guys!
Gee whiz, don't be a fool.

The Bush presidency will not be recognized for its accomplishments until he is long out of office. Savvy economic prognosticators feel that Africa is the next hot emerging market and that once capital starts to flow into the continent, as it is now beginning to do, Africa will emerge from its doldrums. The beginning of this process should rightfully be attributed to the Bush presidency.

When (if) the Iraqis finally pull their heads from the sand and establish a successful capitalist democracy the world will finally understand the vision the Bush had for the middle east.

As the Bush presidency winds down it is becoming more and more apparent that Bush was a visionary leader, however, his accomplishments will not be recognized in the context of months or even years.

Oops, I seemed to have stumbled into the moron room. Exit stage left.

Can we please stop sending aid to Africa. All we get for our efforts is more pregnate, AIDS infested Africans. Let them die off. They need to learn to control their genitalia.

Am not a big fan of the Prez. But If anything he's risking his life by going to Africa. I'd say he's putting his life on the line to improve the situation in parts of Africa.

One might go as far as to say "Bush did more for Africa than he has done for his own constituents"

are you people crazy? maybe it's not a liberal conspiracy... maybe it's because Americans don't care, and if they did care it would not be to bush's political advantage domestically.

why is America supporting africa while they have so many other problems... budget and trade deficits, credit crunch, an unpopular and strategically flawed war in iraq, an ineffective war against al quaida, who continues to operate in pakistan with impunity, the botched response to katrina hurricanes, a medicare bill that was a total sell out to big pharma.... BUT HEY!!! at least Africa is better off... feel good about that America!!!

What a breath of fresh air to go to comments written by Bush supporters and probably obvious Republicans. You all sound so confident, intelligent, informed and content with the achievements you have and are making in life.

Thank you for restoring my faith in human nature.

To report the truth would upend the apple cart and cause the dinosaur drive-by media to lose ground in their collective desire to shackle the United Stated of America with a collectivist, socialist society where the media-elites and their usual accomplices control all things cultural, societal, spiritual and economic. In other words, they, the media-elite and their progressive allies, would be stalled in their drive to force upon us their prescription of all things UN-AMERICAN!!!

I visited Malawi Africa a few years back, with a team of church members who were less than enthusiastic about President Bush. Several times we ran into ex-patriate Europeans and Americans who would voice their displeasure with our President (I bite my tongue so much I couldn't speak for a year).

A year after that one of the African ministers we visited came to a group gathering at our church, and praised George W. Bush effusively....the crowd was stunned in silence, and I silently cheered...

2 things

Press really doesn't care about good news and good things - Africa, progress in Iraq.

and

Why does Bush have to articulate what he is doing in Africa to the American people?

President Bush actually answered this recently. He said he doesn't toot his own horn, like Democrats, because he doesn't consider this to be his achievement but America's achievement. He noted it was the American peoples tax money so it's achievement . Humility no Democrat is capable of.

It's very admirable that Bush did so much for Africa. I only wish he'd have done as much for the needy here in his own country.

The sermon our pastor gave on Ash Wednesday kind of put this into perspective for me. Christians are supposed to do good works, but are NOT supposed to reap earthly benefits from the good works. What you do for your fellow man is to be between yourself and God only. You are not to "self aggrandise" your generosity... you know, run around telling everyone and shouting "Look how good I am!!!", like the Clintons do. President Bush is a good man and I believe that future historians will be very kind to him for his actions as President.

As one who has personally done charity work in Africa, I can tell you how important Bush's advocacy there has been. They very much respect him- as well as Bill Clinton, whose Clinton Foundation has also been working on this. In Bill's case, this is a little bit of mea culpa for sitting on his hands through the Rwandan massacre, but welcomed nevertheless.

It's ironic that both of these men receive (and deserve) greater respect in Africa than at home.

I was most pleased by his visit to the mosquito net factory; investments like that one are the only long term solution for Africa. As Andrew Mwenga is famous for advocating investment over aid and has had very public run-ins with Bono and Geldof in the past on it. I happen to see his point.

WOW,

how many right wing nutjobs have we got here?

Yet some of you claim to know the secret liberal agenda to create a dictatorship.........

Well we do have an agenda to have people in authority be qualified by their merits not their money or dad being president.

so yeah we have an agenda.

some subtle humor for anyone with a soul....

President Mugabe is a great Leader, the only reason his numbers are down (and who cares anyway) is because the press relentlessly bashes him. I have a dream, the media goes out of business. Let the truth begin.

Ditto to all the above!

I'm glad to see the comments section is filled with rational people.

I absolutely believe that 10 years from now most people will look very fondly on President Bush's time in office.

President Bush is a great American who stands by his principles and deserves our respect.

Ditto to all the above!

I feel that Bush needs to work on our economy a little bit more and help win this war faster.
But you cannot hide that fact that he has helped Africa more than any other president. Why do you think Africans wore his picture on their clothes?

Now that Geldof has seen the "light" of liberal media bias, maybe he could gather all his industry friends, make a video and sing a song called "We Need The Truth" and do a concert called TruthAid. That would be great! What? All of the sudden no one will return his calls? Not Stevie Wonder? Michael Jackson? Surely Cyndi Lauper could use a gig. Or Steve Perry. Oh, never mind.

Anyone notice how the reporter consistantly referred to President as Mr. Bush? I noticed Anne Curry and Merideth Viera did the same thing yesterday at least 3 times. It's Mr. President or President Bush. Could you imagine if they called President Clinton, Mr. Clinton?

Jim: "Bush is bad because liberals are against the war in Iraq (or any war anywhere for any reason.)"

-- actually liberals are only against war during a Republican administration. Look at the record, so many wars were started while a Democrat was in office:
WWII, Korea, Vietnam, not to mention the many gratuitous military "actions" of the Clinton administration: Bosnia, Somalia, and the missile strike against that aspirin factory in Iraq that Clinton used to distract us from Monica Lewinsky.

The idea that Democrat presidents don't start wars is a myth.

The correct thing to say is, that liberals today are opposed to anything that is in our own national interest. They are masochists.

What would be really cool is for the liberal media to report on something they have done good for this country. You know that can't happen and won't. The liberal media along with our elected officials who take great pride with the Amercian People at a 11% approval rating, lowest ever and can blame everything unsocialistic on President Bush. The lying, biased media are like the Al-Quaeda in Iraq, always trying to undermine what is good about America. Can't wait for the day when we get to hunt the liberal media down and take them out, forever! Also can't wait for the Billary's to take there socialistic plan and finnaly go away! Al who?

Geldof and all you conservative whiners need to open your eyes. "Liberal" media not mentioning Bush's aid to Africa? Really now?

This shows yet again that facts bounce off conservatives' heads like ping-pong balls.

he shows us humility. a truly decent man. if
more people could recognize what he is, stand with him, the rest of the world might take us serious and give up questioning the American resolve and he would get the credit he deserves. God provided us with him at the proper time as He always does.

WOW..it's nice of Bush to go to Africa and give them free hand-outs. If he would just use some of that money to pay off the national debt here at home, so that the hard working people here can try to get ahead.

Thank You, Drudge Report for reporting Mr. Bob Geldorf's comments to the MSM on behalf of President Bush. It is absolutely shameful how the MSM continuously maligns President Bush. If they had reported on half of our President's accomplishments our world would be a better place. I used to enjoy reading the newspapers. We no longer subscribe to any of them

Waaah, the liberal media hates us....

Dude, you're the PRESIDENT!!! For eight years you've had, as Theodore Roosevelt, one of the finer U.S. Presidents called it, the Bully Pulpit.

If you can't work that, your PR sucks.

President Bush is a great president, he has been right on Iraq, right on fighting terrorism and right on cutting taxes. But this stuff in Africa is waste of U.S. taxpayer money. We should stop all these useless give away programs. We are not the World's keeper and the U.S. Treasury is not a charitable organization free to distribute our money. So Geldorf is wrong too. Let him donate his money and time. We should not be wasting our money in Africa. Let them develop democracies and subscribe to capitalism and create their own wealth.

Make Bush the king of Africa. Hey Jr. Take care of your own country by designating the billions spent there by feeding and healing the people who"elected" you. Give him a Nobel Peace Prize. Better yet him and Gore can take turns wearing it.

If history judges GW honestly and unbiasedly he will be ranked in the top 5 presidents of all time.

Nice job Mr. President. Regardless of the liberal media's lack of reporting, your supporters are well aware of the good you've done. Whatever the powers that be in the liberal media world may think, we're not stupid.

Money to Africa...ya, there's money well spent. Give me a break, how ridiculous.

I`m glad that Bush did so well for Africa. Lord knows those people need a lot of help and I`m glad they are getting some, It`s too bad the president is not helping the people of America!!! It seems after seven years of Bush as president, our econamy is about as good as the countries of Africa!!!

True conservatism is at it's very soul compassionate. It is Marxism and Liberalism that keeps godless, merciless elite in power and the masses in bandage. George Bush is a liberator and genuine Christian apostle, the very reason his effete critics hate him.

Hey Burt,

We're a Republic - not a Democracy!

The US does something good for the world and the press doesn't report it. Big shocker there!

About time someone stated for the record that President Bush has done so much for the poor in Africa. We never hear this from the main streem press, I have cancled all main streem newspaper subscriptions and go to far fewer movies due to the poli-bias. You don't have to be conservitave to see it, even a moderate like me can see it.

I accidentally turned my tv on Softball with Chris matthews last night and they were covering this story. Chris started out by saying "Even people in Africa are familiar with Barack Obama"...(it showed a picture of two (2) people holding a barack sign).. Need I say more?

It would be nice to think that future historians will give Bush his due but it really isn't very likely. Future historians will use today's media reports as sources for their historical research. The corporate media is aware of this and strives not to leave any positive sources. Never forget that, for reasons I will never understand, certain Republican leaders are not just disapproved of - they are HATED by the liberal establishment. Even though most of their favorite programs were signed into law by Richard Nixon they still despise him and his historical legacy and do all they can to make sure that no future historian writes anything positive about "Tricky Dick". Notice how that name has stayed in the American consciousness.

"If history judges GW honestly and unbiasedly he will be ranked in the top 5 presidents of all time."

In what category? I shudder to think. Bush should shudder as well. If anything, the press -- Newscorp in particular -- has been way too easy on Bush, and they continue to let him off the hook at every turn. Bill Gates has done more with his own money to fight AIDS in Africa than Bush has ever done with mine, and what kind of media attention does Gates get? Bad to none at all.

Let us not forget! The Africa Countries and other countries need America. They have screwed themselves by electing officals who accept and implement socialist/communist agenda into Law. Guess what it doesn't work. Not 1 country who has implemented this lifestyle has survived. Look at all these countries, not 1 can be said to be a great place to live work and raise families. Europe has done this and it is swirling the drain, USSR gone, Cuba (what a nightmare). I always say", you never see people trying to escape America, they always try to come into America". Also look at all the city's that Democrats run, what crap holes.

Yes Bush has done more than any other president for Africa. However, I don't see how it could be considered an "achievement" when Bush is just continually spending money that we don't have. If the budget were balanced, then we could consider it an achievement.

WAH!! WAH!! WAH!!

When will people learn? The greatest enemy this country has is not Iran , North Korea, Russia, China, etc. it is the main stream media. These liars influence the stupid sheeple who never look past their ignorant faces into anything. The Baby Boomers that currently run it will leave this country a third world nation (which has always been their intent) when they finally, and gratefully die off. But wait! They still have more damage to do as seniors, as they drive the country and all subsequent generations broke.

It's not about liberal media or the President's inability to articulate his message... he can talk all day long but we don't want to listen. We take what the 'experts' tell us is the message. STOP LISTENING TO EXPERTS, educate yourself and make up your own mind!

Yes, the President is a compassionate man who listened to some inspired, but ultimately short sighted people and made bad decisions in Iraq; however, what was the alternative - let people there continue to suffer and try to get the Europeans (pardon me while I stifle a laugh) to do something? Who else gives a damn? The Chinese? The Russians? If you really want to believe that they are our moral equivalent than you're too far gone to argue with.

Whew - I'd better get back to work and start earning money. God knows I've got to sock some away before Barack get's elected... I've got 49 uninusured people to support...

I'm confused, didn't Kanye West say that President George Bush did NOT care about black people?
Oh, I know, I know, GWB only cares about certain kinds of black people,{Africans} but not other kinds of black people,{African American}. I'm glad I figured that out- wait a minute, that doesn't make sense. Ah well, thinking like a leftist democrat doesn't make sense either.
And so I have a confession to make:
I can't stand Swedish People, but I love the Norwegians, and the Irish are ok, but those Germans sure make a great beer, and the French, lets not even go there. Am I being ridiculous enough for ya?
Don't be democrat, because a brain is a terrible thing to waste...

To Gary H,see if any of them run the story with Geldoff saying Bush has done more than other Presidents, not that he "touts", he "calls for" or "seeks". They are just policy proposal stories, none giving him credit.

Let me give you a homework assignment.

Google Bush eldof and ley us know how many stories you get where Bush gets credit.

The MSM did cover it. As I was surfing thru channels I paused on CNN a little too long and heard a news anchor say something like "...and President Bush has decided to spend some time where he can be hailed as a hero..." An obvious swipe. This was a news show not an opinion or discussion piece. Pathetic...

Its about time that one of our "I Hate Mondays" rock and rollers or anyone from that side of the fence has said kind things about GWB. He will turn out to be a good president in the history of our country. Maybe we can get Hollywood and the MSM to cool it...on the other hand that comment was silly..

Many of these comments are refreshing to read. I too hope that history will judge GWB a little kinder (and more accurately)than many in the world do today. It has become so common place to speak negatively about Bush and blame him alone for all our problems whether it be global warming or the sub-prime mortage mess we now face(it wasn't the fault of borrowers taking on debt they had no business getting involved with, it was those nasty "predatory" lenders, right?)

Hyung

Well if Geldof says it, it's got to be true. I wonder what Bono says. I'm willing to bet Bush took America's money and used it for aiding Africa. Or did he dip into his own pockets? Next time you Bush supporters start belly aching about our failing economy, lack of health care etc, remember where your tax dollars were and are being spent.

Robbing the poor to aid the foreign poor.

Give him a third term. It's tough to give the man credit when the only reason people are praising him is because his name happens to be on the mailbox.

OK, kudos for his work in Africa. Does not reverse his abyssmal record in virtually every other area. Expert in fear-mongering, incompetence, and losing all international support following 9/11. Simplistic view of the world, and Middle East in particular, will be the hallmark of his presidency. Only 11 months left.

History will be kind to President Bush, even if the press and liberal media are not. When viewed through the prism of time, I believe Bush will be revealed as a president who accomplished great things.

I don't read the liberal press (the Drive-bye Media) because I know most of it is trash and lies. The liberal press giving George Bush credit for anything? Get serious. No wonder I don't read their trash! LONG LIVE FOX NEWS!

Why then haven't we intervened in the Darfur genocide? hint - the U.S. is treating the Sudan with kid gloves because it is providing information about islamic fundamentalists/ terrorists. this is another case of relative morality and the worth differntial between rich whites (primarily) and poor (black) africans. NOT SO FAST BONO!!!!

I'm afraid we're missing an important point here. We should never put our good deeds out front and then ask to be spotlighted for them. Yes maybe GWB deserves acknowledgment for these good deeds but to call a presser to alert the world would be wrong in my opinion. Do your good deeds with humility.
The real issue here is the media once again. If they didn't wish to give JWB good press why not give the USA good press. Why is it that they could not have done their part in highlighting this along time ago to help put pressure on other countries to also help? Any shortcoming here is on the media again.
And now to remind you, Obama and others want to bring back the fairness doctrine? He wants balance? Where is the balance before he gets started on quieting everyone and only allowing government propaganda.

It takes a Boomtown Rat to stand up for President Bush. I don't care what Geldof's political stand is, it is just refreshing that someone has given credit to America and our President. Time and truth will reveal the great man - President Bush.

The President doesn't deserve any credit. He's giving away OUR money when WE didn't approve it. He is perhaps the most liberal president we've ever had and our country has suffered because of it.

Listen up all, it takes an Irish man (and an Sir to boot) to point out what little is right about this current president.

I personally dont like the man and his policies,
I would have hoped Bush would have taken the lead on an Energy program but this will have to do and I respect him for that. The next President will blast off on that one.

It would be nice if Bush's PROMISES for help to Africa would translate into actual documented help for Africa. I would love to see some financial accounting of how many US Dollars are actually getting down to the people. I fear you'd find that administrative costs exceed 15% normally expected from NGOs.

This just points out the larger problem in America today and that is the degree to which our country has become polarized. We live in camps now. We can't wait until we see an opening on an issue that we prize and then launch a withering attack. I think its called "an old saw". Bush does some good things in Africa. Thats something that deserves accolades whether it be by the "liberal media" which the right loves to attack or by the right leaning media which the left loves to attack. Get a grip, all of you haters. If the story is underreported, its not just the "liberal media's" fault. Are you telling me that Fox News doesn't have the resources to flesh the story out; Bush's PR team is too shy to get the story out, Drudge, The Post? C'mon...dial back on the rhetoric. I expect they wont because the inhabitants of the poles like it there; that's why they live there. It is time for a change, America.

Because this President actually does what he believes is right whether it is popular or not, and he does not ask for praise or seek adulation for his acts as some of the leading politcians on the other side of the aisle do.
I applaud Bob Geldof for "keeping it real" so to speak and giving credit where credit is due.
Al Gore was living in his huge mansion telling the American people to conserve energy while he was spending over 20 times the average American's energy use over a year! Meanwhile, George Bush at his Crawford Texas ranch had it fully outfitted with solar energy technolgy and never said a word.

Cancel your newspaper subscription, don't watch network news, cable news, and God forbid the left-wing government stations, NPR and PBS. Cancel Newsweek and Time subscriptions. Save your money and don't buy movie tickets that contribute dollars to George Clooney, Barbara Streisand, Michael Moore and Sharon Stone's agenda. Your real strength is to withhold your dollars. It really works. Your other source of power is writing letters to those in power, the CEOs, local, state and federal officials. They ALL respond to thought-out reasoned people who promise to boycott their products or refuse to vote for them. That works. Wasting time jib jabbing with morons on the Internet is just self abuse.

I do believe that History will show that President George Bush was a good president. That is unless History gets retold by the liberals.
what about Obamas GLOBAL POVERTY ACT? The libs will love that one!

President Bush is very generous with the taxpayers money. It would have been better for America to return those billions to the American taxpayer rather than waste it on foreign aid.

The next time you you Bush supporters start belly aching about the failing economy, poor health care, rising prices and whatever you sheeple decide to whine about, ask yourself why your tax dollars are in Africa. Because I'll give you ten to one odds, the money given to aid Africans, though a noble cause, didn't come from GW's pockets.(just like the wars aren't being fought by his kids!) It wasn't even his idea.
Just because Georgie has his name on the mailbox the credit shouldn't go to him.
It should go to the millions of poor and getting poorer Americans who paid their taxes only to see it help another continent of people, yet again. Good job boss. Pat yourself on the back.

It is indeed a great shame that Bush's efforts here have not been appreciated. But the fault lies not with liberal media bias... it's a result of Bush distracting us with his all-too-conspicuous failures.

History will be very kind to George W. Bush, despite what the "limousine liberals" in hollywood and the media have to say about it. Tough choices take courage and conviction, not focus groups.

@Gary H.

There is one difference though buddy -- how many EDITORIALS of your favorite liberal media sources have praised Bush vis-a-via Africa?

That is what Mr Geldof is bemoaning.

So it's the "liberal media" vs. Bush? Then why haven't Fox, Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity et al covered this stuff? Why haven't they covered all the good things going on in Iraq? Sheesh..

Boy, lotta whiners in here. End of an error, with a self-serving flourish at the end. *Yawn* Suck it, Repugnicans!

The first thing that popped in to my mind was how Kennedy gets so much credit for what he did during the civil rights movement, when it was LBJ who actually did the work, and got legislation passed.

Guess who the press liked back them, and who they didn't?

Kudos to Pres. Bush! I still think he's a nice guy that with the help of the power elite (media/business/government) stole the election, screwed the economy, eroded civil liberties, and waged a war of terror on the world... but kudos to doing something about AIDS & malaria in Africa.

Give to World Vision - you can help Africa too
http://www.worldvision.org

To much is given...much is expected. I am grateful for President Bush. He is a good man a man of his word!!!

To the LiveFreeOrDie here is some info for you:
democracy -- noun, plural -cies. 1. government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
2. a state having such a form of government: The United States and Canada are democracies.
3. a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges.
4. political or social equality; democratic spirit.
5. the common people of a community as distinguished from any privileged class; the common people with respect to their political power.

republic -- noun 1. a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.
2. any body of persons viewed as a commonwealth.
3. a state in which the head of government is not a monarch or other hereditary head of state.

Mosey - get an education. It's not the President's responsibility to make sure you are "happy" even tho' Liberals think it is. The same problems we have today, we had 10, 20 yrs. ago. And everybody whines & cries about how bad it is, even when it's good.

Bob Geldof's been smoking too many mushrooms, no offense

This is the essence of compassionate conservatism.

Ah the neo-conservative Bush cultist mind in action.

*US tax dollars to help poor and sick African-Americans is a waste. Heck, let 'em drown in the waters of Katrina they say. Pick yerselfs up by the bootstraps!

*US tax dollars at the end of his presidency, that is probably not even budgeted, for poor and sick Africans means Bush is a great and compassionate man!

The pathology of todays conservative movement has never been so apparent.

-GSD

Sir Bob obviously smoked too many mushrooms 'back in the day;, no offense

The best leaders are hated during their presidency. Lincoln and Reagan were both vilified by the press. Reagan was hated by everyone. Bush will fair well in history.

If this had been Bill Clinton, the press would be ready to declare him the next Messiah for his untiring efforts to aid Africa. But because it's Bush, then it's "Ho-hum. That's nice". No bias in the media? Riiiiiight!

Every post here is so filled with political venom against democrats that you can not be taken seriously. I am no fan of Bush but I can accept that he has helped Africa, and appreciate it. I can do so without venom against him or other republicans with whom I differ so greatly on the issues of our day. Now have at me with your venom!

As a liberal Democrat I would like to take a moment to applaud President Bush for his efforts in Africa.

Now, if Bush would get on board with global warming and would stop trying to start World War Three, I would be even more supportive.

Hey Ryan from BC,

For all your ranting and ravings about the "LIB" media ignoring Bush's good deeds in favor of guys like Kennedy and Kerry. Remember this... Rush and and Fox and those guys haven't been reporting on Bush's African successes either. Which proves your theory wrong and your bias supreme. Search thyself.

I'm so thankful to see the level headed comments here; Thankful to know there are people in the U.S. who can still think for themselves and not believe everything in the media. Maybe our democracry will survive after all. It may take a few years, but Bush will be seen as a good president, who did make mistakes, but also did a great job with a myriad of issues that no other President has had to face.

Mosey - in 2005, those who earned $200k or more payed 54% of taxes; those who earned between $100k and $200k payed 28%. That means 82% of US taxes were paid by those who earned over $100k. Those who earned less than $40k paid no taxes. The poor aren't paying for African aid - my guess is neither are you.

Of course President Bush's Africa Policy goes unreported!!! To do otherwise would undermine the template that has been the modus operandi of the drive-by media for the past forty years or more: Paint republicans as heartless, greedy, dirty, rotten retrogressive, while portraying democrats as compassionate, altruistic, pious and benevolent progressives.

To report the truth would upend the apple cart and cause the dinosaur drive-by media to lose ground in their collective desire to shackle the United States of America with a collectivist, socialist society where the media-elites and their usual accomplices control all things cultural, societal, spiritual and economic. In other words, they, the media-elite and their progressive allies, would be stalled in their drive to force upon us their prescription of all things UN-AMERICAN!!!

The press will eventually be forced to cover this, but when they do they'll spin it this way:

"Bush efforts to solve hunger in Africa will lead to widespread epidemic of childhood obesity and massive food shortages."

Compassionate Conservatism translated: Unprecedented billions in USD for the betterment of the Dark Continent, to combat the rampant spread of AIDS and the prevalent scourge of malaria. This policy of compassion and decency despite of the outward display of animus from the African-American populace directed at this president and his party. Where is the gratitude? Where is the acknowledgement? To shame with them, and a pox be upon them!!

mr geldof and mr bo-no, responsible for getting the USA to forgive tens of billions in african debt, aid that was used to buy fleets of mercedes Benzs' for family and friends, to buy Gulfstream V personal jets, lavish mansions and palaces for dictators and "kings". I wonder how much of that forgiven debt resides in Swiss bank accts.? Why as I write the prez of south africa is having a monumental palace built for his retirement years, just coincidence, but SA is #2 on the list of largest aid recipients.
Never has a billion dollars produced less results than when it is given to africa. africa is the black hole of foreign aid, billions goes in, nothing comes out. The paradox is that the more money we give them, means they require even more aid the next year. For every malaria patient you save this year means that you have to feed them next year, for every 100 famine victims you feed this year means you'll be feeding 150 next year, for every AIDS patient you treat this year means you'll have to treat 2 more next year.

What's more sad, the fact the U.S. Press has ignored something positive the President has been doing, or that the right-wing clowns who jump on any story/article to get their unsubstantiated, unsupported claims in re: the media. Seriuosly, shut your mouths and give us some FACTS, not your opinion, you whiners. This is why folks like me, in the middle w/out party affiliation, will never align myself with either of the two parties.

Yes, I agree that the press coverage has been ignoring PRESIDENT BUSH's achievements!! Perhaps they should pay more attention.

My comment was edited because I made a crack about George Clooney. Typical Washington Post.
BTW. Global Warming is a joke. If one does any real research, they will find that the IPCC has had hundreds of scientific leaders walk away because of the falsification of research. It is a political campaign that is dangerous. I'm a conservationist who's carbon footprint is as minimal as a westerner's can be. I think that the environmental movement will suffer from the hysteria surrounding Global Warming. People will see in five to ten years that ocean levels are still rising at basically the same rate as the last hundred years, old man winter will be alive and well, etc. This will make people complacent about the environment again, and as long as gas prices stay down, they'll go back to gas guzzling and building 5000 sf homes. Thanks Al Gore for lying to the public and making people once again laugh at environmentalists. This fear campaign will make real environmenalists' jobs even more difficult over the next few decades. Shame! I'm sure this comment will also be edited.

President Bush was really, truly the first internet US President. I believe that people will be studying the role of the internet and media on this global smear campaign against President Bush for many years to come. Before he was even elected, the world media and the prominent internet users of the time (read teenagers) came to the consensus that Bush, because he was from Texas (death penalty) and because he was a born again Christian (religious right), was evil. It just snowballed form there via the internet. Imagine how much "cooler" Clinton would have been if he had been a reformed alcoholic?

Bush haters will never concede that he has dones some good during his tenure. They are a bunch of biased, whining weenies.

Too bad all the bleeding heart populist liberals
who run the EU can't do more than Bush. Lest we forget that Africa's current state of chaos is DIRECTLY related to hundreds of years of botched colonialism from european powers, mainly....you guessed it England and France. But, as usual they mess it up, and America cleans it up. At a cost of our tax dollars and sometimes our blood (Somalia). Oh and by the way that same colonialism is also responsible for the current situations in the middle east and south asia. Maybe in their infinite populist wisdom their governments, not just their musicians, can see the truth and take responsibility for the actions of their countries.

Kathryn,
Nobody's denying things different 10-20 years ago.
Be all you can be. Sign up, for that matter sign up your kids. Things are good. Get a clue.

Follow this "leader" if you're a true believer. all the way to Africa.

You probably don't even donate blood.

Typical-- can't put, can't shut

Either that or clam up.

Several folks here complain that we should be spending the money on Americans, not Africans. First, our government gives LOADS of assistance, aid and hand-outs to Americans (much more than I feel is necessary). More importantly, the poorest of poor in America are thousands times better off than the average African or other resident of a third-world country. I know this because I've seen it first-hand. Haven't you at least seen the commercials???

The New York Times and LA Times want to know why people aren't buying papers? It's not because of the internet STUPID it's because your producing a flawed product. You're not informing the American people like you say your doing. You're feeding them your liberal bs and they know it. The game is up and has been up for a while. The only ones left buying their crap are the uninformed and idiots that don't realize it. The network news shows are also right in line with the newspapers. They are all going down in flames because their idiot ideology doesn't sell.. dohhhh...

Well at least students in micro 1 in classrooms across our nation wont have to drop their head in embarrasement when their proffessor teaches them that it only takes nets to save some kids. We are talking about kids and mosquitos here, it couldnt be an easier or worthier problem to fix. Oh but wait, Im preaching to people that probably just step over a homeless American citizen without another thought in their pea size brain.

Bush not able to communicate his was out of a paper bag is news? Please. The man will likely only find the bully pulpit when he trips over it the day the next president is sworn in and he walks out of the White House for the last time. If Reagan is the great communicator, Bush 43 is the great um...

Anyway, yes 43 deserves credit for taking our hard earned money and shipping it to African nations. That's not much of an achievement if you ask me. It's not really a sign of leadership just another example of everyone getting in on the pipeline to your wallet.

Anyway, Sir Bob, thanks for pointing it all out to us.

I was saddened when I read Norman S's comment:

"When will the American people wake up and realize that the press has been totally unfair to President Bush and his policies, and demand fairness."

And I realized I can stand up and demand it all I want, but without any media there to publish it...it's a sad world we live in.

Ah yes, Bush the "compassionate conservative" helping to poor and sick in Africa. More than any other president, Bush has shown his "compassion" by giving away billions of tax dollars paid by hard working Americans. It is appropriate that a RINO like Bush gets accolades on the African continent. After voting for HW twice and W twice, I have run out of barf bags so I think I will pass on McCain. May the Republican party rest in peace.

President Bush has recently been chosen as #10 in the list of the top presidents in U.S. history by a Harris poll. Wonder why we haven't seen this story in the main stream media?

Truthful people know in their hearts that President Bush has done more for Africa, and the WORLD for that matter, than any other President before him.

The real story here is that he is given credit for his accomplishments by a person not known for being a Conservative nor a Republican!

"Unfortunately to President Bush's detriment, he does a very poor job of articulating his policies, positions and achievements."

The above seems to be a common perception. It begs the question; Why?
Could it have anything to do with the same biased media? President Bush speaks from the bully pulpit and all the world remembers is the negative assessment of the biased media. President Bush speaks to the media and all the world remembers is the negative spin by the same biased media. It is not possible for one positive voice to overcome the negative misconceptions of many.

It's not like this is without precedent -- An extremely articulate carpenter from Nazareth had the same problem some 2000 years ago.

Lets face it most newspapers are not fit to line a bird cage.I just don't bother to read them. Most of the reporters are paid so low that all they have is a little power. Most reporters always have a better idea of how to run the country but lack the guts to run for office.
They all hide behind the print. Notice how dirty your hands feel after you hold a newspaper? Well, now you know why.

I apologize.
I posted that my comment was edited by the Post. It was not.
Thank you WP for printing the comments as they were written and for fair reporting.

Hey Fishwrap, Live Aid was about famine relief, not debt relief. Bono's the debt relief guy. C'mon, it wasn't that long ago, was it?

What an ignorant comment...by John, Brooklyn concerning this article...

Aaaaaah, Brooklyn.... makes sense now.

wow, I've never seen so many positive comments on GWB in any forum. I live in l.a., and when i voted in the primary earlier this month i got the oddest looks when i asked for a republican ballot. this place is like a breath of fresh air.

Not a big fan of the president, but I really want to thank him and praise him for this good thing he has done in Africa in our name as Americans. It is nice to have at least one continent on Earth that is happy with us.

Does one think that Bush's efforts to save Africans is going to cancel out the thousands of Iraqi's and US military that have died? What a joke!!!!

Lib Media ? News Corp owns half the english speaaking media on the planet.
In addition, i saw it on msnbc and nbc news it was on yahoo too.
bush has done some good things but they dont outweigh the bas not even close. its like his tax cuts the rev that they generated nerver came close to offsetting the amount of taxes cut

You won't hear about this on Oprah.

What good came out of Live Aid???

"Live Aid, the first mega-concert, and its pal, USA for Africa (along with the saccharine "We are the World"), raised over US$ 300 million and earned the Geldof a knighthood. The money went to Haile Mariam who used it to kill another few hundred thousand people. Ethiopia is still a bugfest."

All the money we give to Africa goes to the warlords, dictators and middle-men.
We're just throwing money at them so we can feel good. I doubt if 2% actually goes to help someone other than the already rich.

There's a reason that President Bush doesn't articulate his accomplishments. He doesn't seek the acclaim that other politcal and world figures do- he does these things because they're the right thing to do. That concept is so alien to liberals that they wouldn't know how to report it anyway,

Global warming is a theory which is not even correct. Scientists who measure the activity of the sun find it to be an exact match to temperature changes on earth. Yes, pollution is not a good thing; but to allow the global warming impact to influence any decision is irrational.

John from Brooklyn (2/19/08 10:44) -

It's people like you who are the problem. You are intimidated by the good works of others, so you tear them down to mask your own shortcomings rather than put out effort yourself.

When the crap really hits the fan, don't blame others, look in the mirror for who is responsible.

Nick from Iowa

To all the people who are complaining "money to Africa how about money in America" first to see millions of people dying because of a 5 dollar bed net is inhuman and President Bush recognizes that to say you are a great nation but stand by and do nothing while people die from preventable diseases could not stand and history would not judge us kindly for that. Now to the strategic reasons why America should help and be a close partner who knows in 50 years or hundred years what the state of the world would be and if at that time we would need Africa to help us. Also China and Russia are becoming a large present in Africa and we need to counter that by showing the African people that China wants to use you, we want to help and be a partner with you. And lets not forget about all the Islamic countries in Africa that are breeding grounds for Bin Laden I agree that that media are liberals that have to portray Pres. Bush in a negative light but don't forget they do that to all Republican Presidents and make democratic Presidents like Clinton and Carter who accomplished nothing and will be remembered in history books as minor and forgettable Presidents as great leaders or in Carter's case great humanitarians. Nothing illustrates this more than a self serving rapper going on T.V and saying that BUsh doesn't care about black people and this loser receives more respect from the media than our President.

What!?! No attack on Bush in this article? Who would have ever thunk it?

Glad someone is actually recognizing the positives of the Bush administration, which in my view, outweigh the negatives.

when I saw President Bush on 9/11 receiving the news from Andy at the elementay school in Clearwater, Fl of the attack to the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, I saw "resolution and commitment" on whatever he was about to do. From then on I felt saver, secure and more confident in this country as a naturalized US citizen. This 'aid' to Africa is for me another way to re-affirm my feelings of 9/11 about our "Presidente".

Hey Kanye,

Still convinced that Bush hates Black People?

Of course you do.

Good. They can have him. I will remember him for flushing all of our tax dollars for the defense "freedom" industry. I find it laughable that you muppets even care for the poor. You practically rail-roaded Clinton for helping out in Somalia. Baaahahahh Bahahhaha. So many sheep.

It has been said that George W Bush will only get a true portrait in American history by people that are not yet born (hope they don't get aborted). Today's liberal press has its vision clouded by BDS (Bush derangement syndrome). I disagree with him on many topics, but overall he has done a much better job than he or his people have conveyed.

We know Africa hasn't been bombarded with hate Bush
leftist propaganda. While Al Gore is running around
saying the sky is falling, Bush is actual making a
difference where it counts, not with some new age
religion called earth worship. Pagans worshiped
the earth in ancient history, what progress we
have made.

The complaints about the press not noticing something are starting to make me laugh. Does anyone really rely on CNN, the NYTimes and the other big mainstream media organizations anymore?

The press is full of themselves. They have this wonderful opinion of just how wonderful they are (NOT). They're disgusting.

Let history be the judge - not the biased, liberal media.

Hey I guess he is a passionate conservative after all. I guess his criteria is that you have to live on another continent so his buddies can't make a profit. I smell a last ditch attempt at " Legacy" This is something that should have been done at the beginning of his presidency. He took away health care from poor American kids at least he can give mosquito nets to other poor children. "W" will always stand for WORST president in our history.

The press are full of hippie, socialist, idiots who walk around with a copy of the Communist Manefesto in their back pocket. Tell me one Socialist country that has EVER made life better and provided more opportunity than the US? None! Socialist countires don't create or build ANYTHING, all they do is steal and acquire what someone else worked hard for. Therefore, Bush will never get credit for anything because he is a capitalist and they hate capitalism and America. Why? Becuase they are a bunch of cry baby wimps that got sand kicked in thier face as kids and this is their way of evening the playing field, they can't compete, don't want their kids to compete, so they try to destroy the game i.e. capitalism. Unforntuately, they take down all that is great about America and try to prop something up that has proven to fail time and time again. We will all pay for it if it comes true, i.e. America turning socialist. Who's going to defend us against terrorism the Dept. of peace?

New Republican1: a conservationist who recognizes that Al Gore is actually not helping your cause. I applaud your good sense.

Global warming is a theory which is not even correct. Scientists who measure the activity of the sun find it to be an exact match to temperature changes on earth. Yes, pollution is not a good thing; but to allow the global warming impact to influence any decision is irrational.

To those who criticize President Bush for being slightly inarticulate at times: His actions have spoken volumes...i.e. remaining steadfast and focused on defeating terrorist plots against western civilization, cutting taxes for hardworking middle-class Americans, not allowing taxpayer support of embryonic stem-cell research (now we find we don't even need embryonic stem-cells to succeed), helping Africa, allowing our military to make it possible for freedom to thrive in Iraq instead of doing nothing in the face of tyranny, and so much more. That's what a real president, not a populist, can do in eight too-short years. History will judge him more accurately than our current lame-stream press.
Linda

This story was actually about Bob Geldof berating the MSM, not GWB's contributions to Africa. But I thank Mr. Geldof for pointing this out because I know that U2 is highly regarded for its dedication to the African cause. Perhaps tomorrow we may see more articles detailing these positive contributions.

As for the mainstream media.. I found this story on the Drudge Report.

Unless foreign aid helps us protect our own national security I see no reason to give it to nations too corrupt and incompetent to do anything worthwhile with the money.
Just look at how much blood and money the U.S. has already spent saving the world time and again. What has it gotten us? Nothing! We need to act in our own national security interests and let private charities help poor nations.

For those seeking to praise or criticize Bush, an actual list of things he has done for Africa during his Presidency might be of some help.

If it has been so under-reported by the media (both liberal and conservative) how are so many of you experts on the issue?

I invite any of you to e-mail us with the information (pro or con, just be factual) and not only will we post it on our website with credit given to you, but we will also discuss it on our show and possibly have you on as a guest.
The invitation is open to all.

What a pathetic thread. This is a genuinely nonpartisan opinion by Geldof; he's peeling away all of Bush's good and bad achievements and saying simply "in this case, Bush did something really good". Yet instead of his detractors acknowledging this fact and his supporters enjoying the moment, everyone immediately gets into a pissing contest where they strain so hard they all crap their pants. "oh the lib press is awfull [sic], whine whine" "oh bush is still hitler, spew spew." What a ridiculous bunch of tossers.

And hey, beaux jaxon? Bush isn't an alcoholic. He's never publicly admitted to being one.

I was watching a 60 minutes interview with Bono, and he gave GW his props, but of course no one heard about it. He said when he mentioned to GW that the US has not done much to help, he said your right, and they did.

I praise George W. Bush's attempts at helping Africa and America's Christian spirit.

But, there is also a great deal of harm and explotation by Western Imperialist from New York to London to Tel Aviv. This includes the ongoing genocide in the Congo which only serves to lower the price of resources extracted from this country.

To those who are complaining that Bush is giving away our hard-earned tax dollars to Africa, I think NOT aiding that pathetic continent is going to cost us more in the long run in the form of war, disease, and unrest. Better go ahead and pay it and maybe change the path Africa is on--for moral reasons and also for practical ones.

I think Bush has done a lot of good things during his presidency, some reported and most soundly criticized (no good deed goes unpunished). I think his primary failures have been of the PR variety. It's amazing how poorly his message has gotten out.

It's not that President Bush can't articulate his achievements, he doesn't feel he needs to be anointed when it comes to his compassion and all the good and positive actions he has attained as President. The press, least of all, will not give him a free ride. The liberals are so biased and wet behind the ears they wouldn't know a decent human being if they were struck by lightening. President Bush made some mistakes along the way, but had the fortitude to confront terrorism, disease, hunger and poverty in African nations when others chose to turn a blind eye. History surely will see this President as achieving major accomplishments.

The media was too busy trashing Ronald Reagan for calling the USSR an evil empire to forsee the collapse of the USSR and communism in Eastern Europe. History tends to correct many media errors, as it will for President Bush. If I were a reporter it would bother me to have to be on the wrong side of history most of the time. Is it stupidity or liberal bias? Then again maybe they are the same thing!

A good deed is a good deed... I don't care who does it. The fact is something good was done.

Its very apparent most of the media is Liberal. So what? Here is an idea... Don't watch them and lower there ratings!

They exist and do well for one reason there must be a large liberal majority watching them.

I can't stand liberal social policies at all. But I am also realistic. If the majority of "MY" people that means being Americans (republicans and dems alike) want a more social government....I will deal with it. Thats why we vote in the first place. Not everyone will get what they want. I can accept being in the minority.

I am pretty sick of Libs pot shotting at Republicans and vice versa. Stick to issues and facts and leave the personal attacks to yourselves. It's childish.

If left up to the liberals and far left media, they'll do every thing in their power to change our history. I've known since day one that President Bush's true direction was to make sure all American people were safe from any other terrorist attacks. That will be his legacy. He's almost completed his task and history will tell our children something different.

Two or three years ago, PBS's Frontline did an in-depth documentary about AIDS in Africa and credited Bush with being the most serious and courageous of Presidents in the past 50 years. Geldolf's recent praise was merely a repeat of past speeches that he and Bono have given. Frontline described the efforts of Geldolf and Bono to raise American consciousness and the conversion of Jesse Helms (yes, Jesse Helms) to the cause of humanitarian aid to Africa. None of this is news to people who care about poverty and AIDS. Right or wrong, Bush's policies are far more sincere and effective than anything proposed or offered by the likes of the Clintons and Obama.

Yes, and Clinton did it better????

This is something Michelle Obama should be proud of.

I love hearing about how Bush ignores the "Poor" in America. In America, the "Poor" recieve free housing, subsidized if not free health care, heat, electricity, phones and internet access. The Apts, of the "Poor" that I service as an exterminator (also free to them) have big screen TV's, stereo systems, air conditioning, washers and dryers, video game systems and MANY MORE CHILDREN than the two parent families who work for a living and PAY TAXES!!!! The Democrats manufacture the "Poor" by paying to birth as many welfare babies as possible and by encouraging as much illegal immigration as they can. This is their voting block. The American Dream of working hard and becoming successful is what they hate the most because successful independent Americans don't have to rely on them. The Socialist leaders, and dictators of the world don't like America because we are successful and independent not because as the Democrats keep telling us because Bush alienated them with his "arrogance and cowboy attitude" The rest of the world will indeed love us if we become Socialist and equally as poor and bereft of freedom and spirit as they are. MISERY LOVES COMPANY. By the way people PARIS IS STILL BURNING and the other great Socialist Nations are on the brink of economic failure and cultural surrender.

someday we'll all wake up and Bush will be gone, retired as president. and we'll all smile at first but then realize as we stroke our beards, put up our ponytails, put on our sandals and birkenstoks, smoke our joints..that our lives are still the same, good or bad...he actually didn't spy on me, ruin my life (I am certainly capable of that without HIM) - "you mean", I will ponder..."I am actually responsible for MY OWN success and happiness"?
Gosh I hope Obama or Hillary don't realize that - they're going to save us all, and if we realize Bush wasn't Satan, well, we might elect...McCAIN!

President Bush should have "boycotted" the press years ago and told the American people why he was doing it. It's about time that the press is called to task for their left wing socialist agenda.

It's not just the hard-working tax payers' money that Bush will spend on other continents and take credit, but the Chinese's money that they loan back to us after we continually buy their plastic crap. You know...the debt that Bush wants to pass on to our kids.

And I'm not a LIB. Well...libertarian, not liberal. It's just sad that the only choices in America these days are between fascism and socialism.

Hey Dave?.....it's not about you. This country has more money than it knows what to do with. Regardless of what Ron Paul says..And yes GW is a compassionate man with enough morals and integrity to know that a sick and starving continent like Africa needs our help. Parents die of AIDS every minute of everyday leaving behing small children who must then take care of themselves. Children are dying of malaria and starvation. Try to remember that when you sit down to dinner tonight.

He is a man's-man as in John Wayne. I salute him.

But wait a minute. I thought it was the Democratic Party that cared about blacks and wasn't it Bill Clinton that called himself the first black president?

Why are so many mad at Bush for doing good in Africa?? I guess that President Bush can do no right. Helping others is just wrong, and helping the sick in Africa is not allowed. However, most of the left wing in America just doesn't like America. Think America and Americans are just plain evil. Don't care about the rest of the World, just what goes on in America. The left wing had better re-think that. America is the most giving country in the World. No other country in the World has given to the poor more than that of the U.S.. What other country has given more money, help, people, and aid to Africa than the U.S.??? Don't hold your breath. It's the U.S.. Where's Russia, or China at?? Where's India, and the U.K.? It's time for the rest of the World to start to give (more) money. The rest of the World talks the talk, however never walk the walk. It's sad. Darrell :)

Those "holier than thou(s)" pay attention. Let's prove we are the real Americans and send our "rebate" checks back to the IRS. I will if you will. Then we'll prove, once and for all, who the real conservatives are.

The press is too busy fawning over the empty suit that is Barack Obama

this is in response to Dan's comment......

Before you blame our corrupt congress too much on Bush you need to remember it is a corrupt DEMOCRATIC CONTROLLED congress......

The problems in Africa are sad, good for Bush for doing good, and if you want to laugh:

Watch HILLARY get MOONED by a guy in a blue dress, posing as MONICA, at one of her presidential rallies!

I don't know what any of you are talking about. There is no "liberal" media. Drive across this great country of ours sometime and all you will hear is non-stop Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and The Christian Broadcast Network from coast to coast. They've done a terrific job of knocking off NPR almost altogether (not that most of you would know what NPR is anyway). You turn on TV and you hear the screaming Bill O'Reilly and his endless clones. And you look at the response to this article and all you read are endless Conservatives screaming about how they are being unheard and about the "end of Democracy," and the "beginning of a dictatorship." What does democracy mean to you guys anyway? Does Democracy constitute only hearing just the sound of your own hateful "Fire and Brimstone" rants 24 hours a day and then screaming that you are being persecuted, when all you hear is you, you, you? If there were a real "liberal" media Bush would have already been impeached for an unjust war and those that do NOT believe in the seperation of Church and State, as did our forefathers (who knew something about history) would have already been relegated to the sidelines where they belong instead of packing the Supreme Court with their contorted commentary. And if this were a true Democratic society we'd be spending more money on educating our children rather than building a bigger and bigger war machine. And if we were a true Democratic society we'd have something vastly more interesting other than McCain, Obama, Clinton and Christian Fundamentalist Crackpots to choose from. Oh if it were only so.

Well, Mr. Geldof, I have always had the greatest respect for you, and it all sounds great, but there is plenty of evidence that our government has sent tainted meds and food to Africa in the past, killing them and further infecting them with HIV. Do you really think that the aid that's going over there will be pure and sent with absolute good intentions? The Bush Administration does nothing "good" without there being some financial gain or a "cleaning house" of people he doesn't think are important on this planet. Bush has just signed another death warrant on millions of Africans and you condoned it.

George is simply trying to buy his way back into Heaven- Sadly, selling out his own country for decent press is about as noble as the Pope apologizing for all the child abuse from his Church. I seriously doubt the money that went to Africa was used for anything other than lining someone's pockets. He is the worst President in history and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Mt. Geldof should stick to what he is good at- which is window dressing- and thats about it.

It is very nice to see Pres. Bush get high marks for his work. And it's even greater to see the News media slowly fade into the sun set. Some day they may even look back and see that the public wanted news and not views. I would rather see my tax money go to the sick and old than to a bridge to no-where. You know no matter how much good Bush does he will never get credit for. For sure he will get full credit for not protecting America if we ever have another 9/11 while the left stands in the way of everything he trys to do. I don't think he will ever go overseas and bad mouth America, like several of the left, and then run back to America for a safe hiding place. The fish smell has been removed from the White House, lets hope the left don't get it back in. The left is very sick in the head and can't stand any good news that Bush has done. America and Bush are getting a good name and we are now getting friends that money can't buy. One thing more for the crawlers and cryers, THE COLORS ON THE AMERICAN FLAG DO NOT RUN!!!

For all of you posters here. The President is to be addressed as President Bush.....not Mr. Bush or Bush. Show some respect and class

History will elevate President Bush's deeds beyond Africa, Iraq, Afganistan, and America but only after the his enemies "The Haters" are dead and buried will his heroic efforts get recognized as SOUND.

There's very little else that Bush deserves credit for. He dropped the ball in Afghanistan, screwed up Iraq (it's not the surge, it's Al Sadr waiting us out), sunk the dollar, ballooned the deficit. The MSM has been incredibly nice to this buffoon.

President Bush is a good president. which george bush are you guys talking about.

The problems in Africa are sad, good for Bush for doing good, and if you want to laugh:

Watch HILLARY get MOONED by a guy in a blue dress, posing as MONICA, at one of her presidential rallies!

The press are just instigators. They want to start fights between people, between candidates and between countries. They are a business - when will you learn?

Hey "DAVE," There's room for you on the other side of the aisle, right between Obama and Hillary. Why don't you kiss Teddy K's butt while you're at it!

I followed this link from another site and when I came across the comments (99% of which are screaming about liberal media and Bush not getting a fair shake) I looked at the URL - aha, the Washington Times. That explains it.

The main reason why the press doesn't cover trips like the (important) one that Bush is now on is because readers don't give a fig about anything outside the US or 1 or 2 "enemy" countries. Meanwhile a whole continent continues to sink under the pressure of bad circumstance, bad luck and some bad leaders - many of whom were supported by western powers. I'm glad that Bush is at least paying some attention to the issue - it's about the only place where he seems able to have some positive impact nowadays.

Bush a great president????? Give me a break!! For seven years now he has been unable to articulate a complete sentence on his own (much less one written by his speech writers), muster a thought about the CONSEQUENCES of his actions or inactions, and has foolishly led this country into greater debt, social injustice, and an internationally scandalous war without merit or cause. We are not the great beacon of freedom and hope we claim to be if we are willing to kill (or participate in the killing of) hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians because we destabilized (purposefully) their government, economy, and social structure, all in the name of spreading democracy. We have been humiliated before the entire world at the hands of a gun-totin', Yosemite Sam, shoot'em up and shoot'em up from the hip, "I'm the decider" kind of arrogant idiocy. I love Bob Geldof and the work he is doing, and I urge Americans to support his work and the plight of the less fortunate all over the world. But to praise GWB for any contribution is like asking Mrs. Lincoln to critique the play. His entire presidency has been a catastrophy, one gut-check after another, and for any God-fearing American, Christian or not (I am, BTW), for any truly patriotic American who loves his country and the freedoms and principles it was founded on, GWB should be impeached and tried for war crimes, crimes against humanity, violation of Oath of Office, and being generally UnAmerican.

God Bless Bob Geldof, the work he is doing and the lives he is fighting for, and God Bless America.

You mean Kayne West was wrong and Bush does like black people ?

I work in the media, although not as a reporter, and I can tell you as an insider that it's a joke. Our talk show hosts do more legitimate "reporting" than our room full of "reporters" can even fathom. If it's not spoon-fed to them, via press release, or heard on a scanner, then it's not news. I'm no Bush cheerleader, and he does have an inability to toot his own horn. He's spent more on AIDS than any previous president, but you'll never hear that. He's supposed to be the standard bearer of the mean spirited, heartless Right, that wants to step on the necks of the downtrodden. At some point, you'd think someone in the media would wake up and say "You know, we really are biased."

The pay off in spending in Africa is having a stable area that we don't have to worry about. That will cost us less in money and lives in the future.

there are two separate realities here; the one the media portrays is going on in the world and the one that is really happening ... i do not trust the left liberal media because they wont admit that they are left/liberal... sean connor

GW and his administration will go down as the most corrupt in history. Furthermore, in a time of war and global uncertainty they have fostered a stinking pustule of self interest in the middle east and around the globe where their myopic next quarter mentality will ultimately cost generations of Americans trillions of dollars and lost stature on the world stage.

Billions in aid to Africa will not erase the misdeeds of he, Cheney et.al.over the past 7 years. They don't get a pass because of writing a few checks from a depleted government account with over 400 billion spent on expendable supplies after the jackass declared mission accomplished 5 years ago.

Take your collective heads out of your asses and own up to what is important for this country, for your children and the generations to come.

The press didn't report any of it because Bush is a Republican. Period.

Bias, pure and simple. If Clinton did this much, it'd be on the front page of the NYTimes every single day.

The way it seems to work for Republican Presidents is that one has to wait until they are seen in the light of history to apprecicate what they have accomplished...Reagan was absolutely hated by the press and now is respected as one of our best Presidents. I think the same will be true of Bush.

The US GOV shouldn't be giving Charity to other nations at all. Period. I can understand crisis situations but if people are compelled to give aid they should do so on their own.

Why should my tax dollars get wasted on people who aren't smart enough to stop having soo many children that they can't afford to feed?

Thank you, Sir Bob, for having a lot more common sense than most Americans. President Bush will leave a legacy of an honest, decent man who kept Americans safe after 9/11, fought the Islamic terrorists on their turf, and tried to bring democracy to the turbulent Middle East for the good of the entire world. The liberal press has demonized him, and in the process has shown their true biased colors. Never has it been more glaring, and it is disgusting. President Bush, your fellow Texans can't wait for you to come home.

GWB spends like a sailor... unprovoked terrorist attack = increased spending for security; natural disasters = increased spending for relief; global economic slowdown = tax cuts and stimulus package; what person with any intelligence would deny that any other president would do the same. I haven't noticed any 'austerity' programs similar to France or other 'enlightened' countries.

Global warming... 1 million years ago, ice age; 30 thousand years ago, ice age; every 60-100 thousand years, ice age... yeah, the US needs to cut industries and jobs to avoid climate change - wake up people! I've been in San Francisco on Earth Day - cars everywhere! And it wasn't those 'evil' republicans driving those SUVs....

Afghanistan and Iraq: extremist Islamic terrorists + no effective government + weapons of mass destruction - did you miss the factual reports - as well as the MSM reports - on actual mustard gas artillery shells and nuclear detonation charges? What do you think weapons of mass destruction are? How many people need to be possibly killed before it's a WMD? 10, 100, 10,000, a million? Let's ask the families of Saddam Hussein's 'disappeared' or look into the mass graves of the Kurds killed by sarin gas - open your eyes! We're not the world's policemen, but neither were the British in the early 1800's when they cruised the west coast of Africa trying to stop the slave trade... perhaps they should have just "let the world take care of their own problems".

Finally, Bush sends $150+ billion to Africa, only a Brit speaks up! Bush sends millions (and his dad) to the tsunami-devastated area, but all we hear is about a model stuck in a palm tree. Residents, knowing the risk, stay in New Orleans anyway! Whose fault is it, oh it must be the President's fault, far be it from them to take the same responsibility for their actions exercised when they stayed - even after mandatory evacuation orders! And what about their state, parish and local elected officials? Are those flooded school buses there as a dam? Does the federal government own the Superdome? Does the president command the police and fire department? Yeah, it must be the president's fault - give me a break!

Contemporary media, lazy officials and those who hate George W. Bush (yet enjoy the freedoms of the constitution that he defends) have the stage now, but in the light of history, on all fronts, international, domestic, economic - the compassion, integrity and efforts of this man, the President, will far outlast the slings and arrows of these deluded masses.

God bless the United States of America.

A true measure of a President does not come while he is in office. It comes 12-20 years down the road. HISTORY will show the kind of President and man that President George W. Bush is. It will show a man of integrity and caring who put aside his political aspirations (i.e. approval rating) in the interest of what is right. He is not afraid of ticking off some to do what is right and just. Unlike Obama and Billary who say what you want to hear to further their own personal interests. They are not intersted in you or anyone else. They are for the Obama's and Clinton's PERIOD. Same as John Kerry is for the Kerry's, Edwards is for the Edward's and Gore is for the Gore's. President Bush is for America, above anyone or anything else. That is a true President.

The overwhelming majority of the press in this country hates Bush. They give him credit for nothing good. The result: the press has little credibility left and little or no respect.

Bush has no Constitutional authority to take our tax money and give it to any foreigner, no matter how good the cause is. Of course, the Constitution never stops these politicians, now does it? Wake up America!! The government is spending us into poverty while they bask in the adulation.

SO WHAT..!!! HE IS ONLY DOING THAT B4 THE ELECTION TO PICK UP BLACK VOTER FOR THE REPUBLICANS SINCE OBAMA IS SOOO STRONG. HE HAD 8 YEARS WHY DID HE WAIT UNTIL NOW..????

The President's efforts in Africa, especially in regards to HIV/AIDS, while laudable aren't completely altruistic.

Imagine the economic effect on a country with an HIV infection rate of 25%-35%. Now imagine the politically destabilizing effect of a proportional infection rate among its soldiers.

I don't doubt the President's intentions are charitable and Christian, but our humanitarian investment in Africa is a bargain compared to the alternative.

Those of you complaining that Bush has "done more for Africa than he has for his own" need to shut up and go away. Seriously. First, by comparison, look what the people of Africa need compared to what the people of America need. Secondly, Bush has done well for Americans for the most part I would argue. Since 9/11, we have been free from attack. Since 9/11 we had a very strong economy up until the last few months. I would like to see any president do what he did with the economy as far down as it was after 9/11. While I don't agree with all that he's done (allow the deficit to ballon, immigration, etc.), I do believe he has done more good than bad. Seriously, give the man some credit.

I am so tired of hearing about the liberal Democaratic controlled press. Who ran a front page series on WMD focusing on Iraq in 1999? NYT. Who spent 3 months in a federal prison because she wouldn't rat on Scooter Libby to the special prosecuter? Again, Judith Miller from....NYT! News Corp is one of the 3 largest news conglomerates. Rupert Murdoch owns it, and, FOX News, Wall Street Journal, etc. Those liberals at FOX, like O'Reilly, are a real gas. Clear Channel is the largest radio station conglomerate. One of their top people bought the Texas Rangers from Bush and Bush paid them back by privatizing the Texas Permanent University Fund and appointing one of the top people at Clear Channel to run the 11 BILLION dollar fund. Clear Channel is where you hear Rush, Savage and the other wackos. Clear Channel organized "spontaneous" demostrations supporting the invasion of Iraq. Their reward? A change in FCC regulations in their favor. And I love it when Rush says he isn't the "mainstream Media". Over 20,000,000 people listen to him every day!! That, my friends, is the definition of "mainstream". The "liberal" press supported Bush going into Iraq. Get real, you idiots. The largest, most conservative corporations in America own the media. General Electric owns either NBC or CBS. CNN has Glenn Beck. MSNBC has Scarbourough. On and on.

Wow, I have never seen a comment section filled with so many brainwashed people in my life.

Honestly, look at what has happened in America in the last 8 years. And you want to jump up and defend this man for *cough* helping Africa?

Blame this liberal, that station, that actor, or this paper. Facts are facts, this man has destroyed what America stood for. The Constitution is now worthless, and let's not even start over the fact that the man was selected not elected.

Use all your important catchy "feel good," phrases. The rest of us know exactly where this puppet stands; and it's not for the American people....

History will rip Bush a new one. When he took office the federal budget was 1.8 trillion. This year it is over 3.1 trillion. Federal employees dropped under Clinton. They are up by 2% under Bush. Clinton presented 4 balanced budgets. Bush has borrowed over a trillion dollars. Bush has allowed the loan industry to go crazy with few regulations. The result of what Fed chief Bernanke called "predatory lending" is going to be millions of foreclosures and bankruptcies. Under Bush our country has dropped from being the loan super power to a nation that is obviously in a state of rapid decay. Last year China added more to the world's GDP than America!!! First time that has happened since the nid 20th century. Bush has hollowed out many government agencies. FEMA is a good example. I feel sorry for the next president because they will have an amost impossible job because of Bush. The coming generation will be worse off than their parents. That's horrible.

You forgot Kosovo this weekend as well. The peaceful startup of a new Muslim state without any fanfare. Simply wouldn't have happened without President Bush. The media is all about style over substance anyway.

Another issue not getting much play is Prez. Bush's reward for his principled stand on human embryonic stem cell research. Check it out!

Most celebrities are getting liberal credit by denouncing GWB. Meanwhile, Hollywood charity is a tax write-off. Alec Baldwin gets $2 million for a movie; he puts in 100 hours on it. So his time is worth $20k/hr. He speaks to some save the africans from CO2 conference and deducts $200k from his taxes for the 10 hrs it takes him to fly there on a lear jet, say 80 words denouncing Amerika and George Bush, and fly back. That's why he won't shut up; it's worth millions to him and his buddies.

Well, no. You can't have a white Republican being seen as doing anything good for blacks, in or out of the US.

Abe Licoln was one of those white Republicans.

At least Geldof has the good honesty to tell it as it is.

heck with africa, there are plenty poor in America. tell me why blacks in the U.S care so much about their african heritage but dont lift a finger to help africa. once again its whitey who does all the work and gets no credit. if black folks cared so much about these countries they should go back and help them !!

OOOOOH Prez Bush you is my hero, for all that you do in Africa, you brave brave man.

It's refreshing to see that the press hasn't manipulated every mind in this country. And criticize Bush for not being like everyone on Capital Hill by prefacing everything he does with a commercial of his accomplishments. It's called character and he's got plenty of it; there aren't many world leaders we can say that about and even fewer mainstream media heads, Hollywood stars and rockers. There is now one rock star I respect - Geldoff, for standing up for Bush - the ones of my youth, the Springsteens, Mellencamps and Raitts lost my following in the last election when they campaigned for Kerry and tried to "rock the vote." It will be a sad day when GWB leaves office. I will not be happy to see him go.

Frankly, Bush took an oath of office to the U.S. Constitution, and in fact though not in the words, to the American people. He must be judged by this, not by how many billions of the American peoples' money he has diverted to Africa.
From Mr. Geldof's point of view, looking only at the American money which h
