Get a piece of the presidential action

It seems politicians aren't the only ones focused on states that hold a presidential primary or caucus this month. Travel website Kayak.com is urging Americans with cabin fever to visit Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, baiting them with the slogan "Vacation with the Next President."

In an email to subscribers yesterday, Kayak.com — a search engine that pulls information from hundreds of travel websites — linked to airfare searches, car rental and hotel information and provided tips on local political haunts in all four of these states. "After the holiday season, relax and let old-fashioned politics entertain," the email stated. "Start hedging your bets now on how many times candidates will overeat on the campaign trail, make promises they can't keep, or attack each other for all the wrong reasons. You have the power though, to see them in person and ask the tough questions that need asking. After that, explore these four great states for some much needed post-holiday R&R."

The Iowa caucuses were held yesterday, but the Kayak.com email assured curious travelers that they "can still join the party in Des Moines," run into "political stragglers" there and visit popular attractions like "the downtown caucus hot spot 801 Steak and Chop House." It highlighted attractions in the other three states with upcoming contests as well. For instance, it urged travelers to head next to New Hampshire for its January 8 primary so they can "canoodle with CNN reporters and political candidates over a cold one at Quackers at the Wayfarer Inn in Bedford."
