Arriving in Ramallah

The White House press corps bus breezed through two Israeli checkpoints on our way to Ramallah, in advance of President Bush's visit to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

After the second Israeli checkpoint, we passed into Palestinian-controlled Area A. When we arrived in the Palestinian city, we were greeted by camouflaged members of the President's guard, and were guided down a main street. You can see the video below.

The streets were deserted and lined with machine-gun toting Palestinian soldiers. A U.S. embassy staffer said that the Palestinian Authority had imposed a curfew for Mr. Bush's visit, turning the city of about 23,000 into a ghost town.

Shades of Kennebunkport!!!

Wherever a Bush goes, the locals are locked down for the duration of the visit.

Bush's vision of democracy apparently is the incarceration of everyone but his lackeys.
