Rush's "phony" remark draws real ire

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid today urged his colleagues to sign on to a letter condemning conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh for saying troops who criticize the Iraq war are "phony soldiers."

"Rush Limbaugh went way over the line, and while we respect his right to say anything he likes, his unpatriotic comments cannot be ignored," Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, said on the Senate floor.

He said there are "good, patriotic Americans" on both sides of the war debate, but Mr. Limbaugh "took it upon himself to attack the courage and character of those fighting and dying for him and for all of us."

Mr. Limbaugh made the comment last week in response to a caller who complained that news organizations handpicked discontented soldiers to criticize the war effort, prompting the characterization "phony soldiers."

Mr. Reid said Mr. Limbaugh, who never served in the military, thinks that "his opinion on the war is worth more than those who are on the front lines.

"And what's worse — Limbaugh's show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, which means that thousands of troops overseas and veterans here at home were forced to hear this attack on their patriotism. Rush Limbaugh owes the men and women of our Armed Forces an apology," Mr. Reid said.

Mr. Reid urged senators to sign a letter calling on Mark P. Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Communications which broadcasts the Limbaugh show, to publicly repudiate Mr. Limbaugh's statement.

Sorry Harry Reid so misinformed, but he still can't turn a lie into the truth. I heard the entire tape of Rush Limbaugh and Democrats were oh sooooo desperate to divert attention from the MoveOn.org ad in the New York Times that they had to smear somebody else. People like Harry Reid can't get any lower than that. They just keep repeating a lie and hope that people will start to believe it, right? They make me sick. Limbaugh never said "phony soldiers" and they know it. If you don't believe me, go to his web site and you can actually hear the entire tape and read the transcript for yourself.

Democrats will never get anywhere in life using McCarthy-like tactics in attacking people. No matter how often they repeat a lie it is still a lie and they know it.

In a conversation on Rush Limbaugh's radio program, a listener named Mike said that antiwar people never talk to "real soldiers," adding that they take their cues from soldiers who are against the war and "talk to the media."

To which Limbaugh rejoined: "The phony soldiers."

THE POSTING ABOVE is from someone who is not listening or not reading the full text.

I actually heard the comment. Was listening to the show.

Mr.Limbaugh's comment's are typical for the drug-abusing,draft dodging right wing waterboy. I've read transcripts and listened to the broadcast. Once again those who have never served suddenly have knowledge of all things military, seems to occur a good deal within that group. I will continue to defend everyone's right to free speech, I hope those who have never served will do the same.

I heard the real audio, not the edited version that's on Limbaugh's web site. Limbaugh said "Phony soldiers" clear as a bell. The caller repeated it, but Limbaugh said it first. Ditto-heads can believe anything they want about Limbaugh. The truth is that he has become a clownish caricature of himself. He never was a serious commentator, merely an entertainer, who rose to fame by poking fun at the Clintons. Plenty of comedy material there, but I don't know how a thinking person can take Limbaugh seriously. I liked him better when he was stoned on Oxycontin.

I heard the Rush to Judgement.
It amazes me that this blowhard still commands the attention of so many people.
I was sent the recording from a You-Tube posting - by an outraged friend.
Free speech is one thing, but free drivel is another.
Would that we could give this man what he deserves...
THE BUM'S RUSH!

Hey RJP3,
You are such an incredible ding bat. Rush was referring to those "phony soldiers" that the Lame Stream Media quotes and profiles that ARE NOT REAL SOLDIERS. I donot believe for a nanosecond that you were listening to the show that day, because if you were, it would be next to impossible to take him out of context in the way that you have. Your critical listening skills need some improvement, or, try using a q-tip every now and then and clean out your ears.

RJP3 suggests Libertyship46 is uninformed. Here is the transcript (pardon the length). The last line is from Rush's show today where he affirms he was talking about one specific soldier.

CALLER: No, it's not. And what's really funny is they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and spout to the media.

RUSH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER: The phony soldiers. If you talk to any real soldier and they're proud to serve, they want to be over in Iraq, they understand their sacrifice and they're willing to sacrifice for the country.

RUSH: They joined to be in Iraq.

RUSH: It's frustrating and maddening, and why they must be kept in the minority. I want to thank you, Mike, for calling. I appreciate it very much.

Here is a Morning Update that we did recently, talking about fake soldiers. This is a story of who the left props up as heroes. They have their celebrities and one of them was Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth. Now, he was a "corporal." I say in quotes. Twenty-three years old. What made Jesse MacBeth a hero to the anti-war crowd wasn't his Purple Heart; it wasn't his being affiliated with post-traumatic stress disorder from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. No. What made Jesse MacBeth, Army Ranger, a hero to the left was his courage, in their view, off the battlefield, without regard to consequences. He told the world the abuses he had witnessed in Iraq, American soldiers killing unarmed civilians, hundreds of men, women, even children. In one gruesome account, translated into Arabic and spread widely across the Internet, Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth describes the horrors this way: "We would burn their bodies. We would hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque."

Now, recently, Jesse MacBeth, poster boy for the anti-war left, had his day in court. And you know what? He was sentenced to five months in jail and three years probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs claim and his Army discharge record. He was in the Army. Jesse MacBeth was in the Army, folks, briefly. Forty-four days before he washed out of boot camp. Jesse MacBeth isn't an Army Ranger, never was. He isn't a corporal, never was. He never won the Purple Heart, and he was never in combat to witness the horrors he claimed to have seen. You probably haven't even heard about this. And, if you have, you haven't heard much about it. This doesn't fit the narrative and the template in the Drive-By Media and the Democrat Party as to who is a genuine war hero. Don't look for any retractions, by the way. Not from the anti-war left, the anti-military Drive-By Media, or the Arabic websites that spread Jesse MacBeth's lies about our troops, because the truth for the left is fiction that serves their purpose. They have to lie about such atrocities because they can't find any that fit the template of the way they see the US military. In other words, for the American anti-war left, the greatest inconvenience they face is the truth.

RUSH: That was the transcript from yesterday's program, talking about one phony soldier.

Engineer again: Judge for yourself. It seems to me that the Democrats protest too much. Jesse MacBeth is a "phony soldier" piece of scum. Who's the greater McCarthyite here? Rush reporting a criminal conviction of a war critic and launching into a polemic against his supporters or Dem politicians misconstruing a radio personality's statements to undermine his credibility?

Let's face it. Rush Limbaugh has very expensive PR people working for him. The "phony soldier," does and did NOT!

Rush Limbaugh is about as low as we can go on any kind of a human scale. He's proven that to all of us (were you not listening/reading?) even including all his expensive PR pros, all by himself. Sure, he's redeemed. Ask him and his PR guys. Yeah! And, I'm Cro-Magnon, not yet a real human being.

Don't you people understand what it is he does? Do you use even 10 percent of your brains?

Rush said the actual words "Phony Soldiers". What Harry is not admitting is that it was a reference to Jesse Macbeth who was a "Phony Soldier" who claimed that he served in Iraq when he did not. Rush was not referring to veterans who appose the war. ABC news also called Macbeth a "Phony Soldier". I listen to Rush every day and I heard the full text which is available on Rush's website for anyone who wants to know the truth.

I would call this lying tactic is one that belongs to our president. It is terrible that the subject of the soldiers' legitimancy was questioned on the show and that this was broadcast to our troops. Back to Bushy. He has not told very many truths during his time in office with a wonderful example being our war in Iraq. Remember where it started? Oh yeah vaguely. Wasn't it Afghanisomething? But wait why r we in Iraq then? Oh yeah there was like fake bomb or something right? And when no one could find it we attacked anyway cause we're america and we dont take no for an answer.

I heard what Rush said and frankly, Reid has a point. Tell me this...what exactly is a "phony soldier" in the Rush context? Opinions are like Rush's IQ, everybody has 1.

I agree with RJP3's comment. It was very clear that Rush said "phony soldiers" and that is what appears in his own transcript. Only after the controversy blew up in his face did he then try to spin it into his speaking about ONE man, Jesse McBeth. In fact, his defense has the words "one soldier" highlighted and underlined.
The caller said "phony soldiers" and Rush agreed with him by repeating "phony soldiers".
That was Friday. When people wouldn't buy that lame spin on the story, today Rush tried to justify it using U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Sullivan's results from his "Stolen Valor" investigation to prove his case.
Thar won't fly either. Only ONE of the dozen cases under investigation had to do with an Iraq war "veteran". That was the McBeth case. The other fake soldiers were men that were between 52 and 83 years old and were accused of defrauding the Defense Department based upon Viet Nam, Kroean War or WW II "service".

As far as his having visited Afghanistan ONCE four years ago (his "evidence" of his support for our troops), there are many who disgaree with this war who have visited both Afghanistan and Iraq many times since 9/11. Rush regularly castigates them as unpatriotic and against our troops such as Al Frankin. HE has visited Kuwiat, Iraq & Afghanistan, as well as Kosevo EVERY year on USO tours with his last one being only 10 months ago at Christmas time. Funny that they have shown so much more support for our troops by visiting with and entertaining them than he ever has.

THE LOW IQ RUSH LISTENERS STRIKE AGAIN. MOST OF RUSH LIMBAUGH'S LISTENERS HAVE A LOW IQ! These people don't even know the difference between Sunni and Shia.

RUSH HAS SOME SMART LISTENERS WHO are incapable of critical thinking or unfortunately indoctrinated in the corporatist point of view of the neocon wing of the Rebuplican party. There will always be WACKOS out there on the right AND the left, but the best thing is for all of us to read, attend lectures, and listen to different points of view and not just to the corporate media (Clear Channel).

Take the first step by following the $$ and see who REALLY benefits from this $750 Billion war. CLUE: It is not our troops, not our veterans. These are the people we should be thinking of but instead we're fighting over who's more patriotic, while the REAL BAD GUYS are laughing at all of us on the way to the bank. (And I bet many of them are Saudis)

ALSO, please meditate and think WHO will be making $$ WHEN we bomb Iran. HMMMM. I WONDER

So Rush was talking about people who aren't really soldiers who are interviewed by the main stream media and pretend to be soldiers. When has that happened?

Lets face it though, this right-left stuff is laughable. If the Democrats had launched this war Rush would be screaming and shouting about how we should leave immediately! That's a fact.

The fat cats at Westinghouse and GE and Boeing are laughing at us as we bicker about right-left nonsense.
We are divided, our government and the puppet masters are united in all but appearance.

This sounds like another Winter Soldiers scenario. When evaluating statements these days one must look at the integrity of the person as a whole, i.e. how many times has Harry Reid stood up for our military? What was his response when Kennedy called them torturers, when Murtha called them murderers, when Durbin called them Nazi's and when General Petraeus was called a traitor by MoveOn.org? Compare that to his response now. His move is completely in line with his anti-military integrity. Rush Limbaugh has no direct power over the military, so stupid, irresponsible statements come and go. However in a democracy, Harry Reid has financial power over a military who has no recourse, his agenda has a direct influence physically as well as morally over our military.

I thought I'd post this text of Rush Limbaugh's comments one more time so that Harry Reid and his supporters will have another opportunity to get the facts straight. Given Mr. Reid's support for an enemy victory it would not surprise me to hear he is also a supporter of Jesse Macbeth, the "phony soldier".

RUSH:

Jesse MacBeth is indeed a "phony soldier", and that is who Rush was referring to.

The only ones who should be condemned are Mr. Reid, and others who are piling on for no other reason than to divert attention from MoveOn.org's despicable ad, and any excuse to jump all over Rush (even if it's a lie).

If Reid, along with Durbin, Murtha and other Democrats who either directly or indirectly trashed America's Best, get this wrong, how many other important issues do they get wrong? Or are they just illegally using tax payers time and money to campaign? Vote these worthless jokers out!

A "Phony" soldier in this context referred to the cases of actual impersonation of soldiers, including at least one who was convicted of that impersonation. It was not a reference to war critics, but people who impersonated soldiers and THEN criticized the war.

Read that through 3 times until it sinks in.

Why is Reid so incensed to suggest that phony soldiers do not exist and that Rush was definitely talking about real soldiers? Could it be he knows some people impersonating soldiers personally? Why the sudden crop of people impersonating soldiers who just happen to be criticizing the war??? Did Rush stumble too close upon one of their political operations, and this is a quick way to defuse it? Payments from moveon.org to phony soldiers? Someone needs to call for an In-ves-ti-ga-tion, the game democrats love to play.

I served in Vietnam. At that time there were, and still are many "Phoney" soldiers who told very tall tales about where really trasnpired. John Kerry being on of the best know. In my opinion, they are wantabee's. Seems like MacBeth is one in the same. Reid is sometimes to weird for words. Tells us a lot about the Senate leadership.

I thought Harkins remarks were very poor. exhibited extremely poor judgment. People who are recovering from addictions should be supported as they continue to fight there battle, not attacked and/or made fun of. Makes one kind of wonder if Mr. Harkin lacks good prudence in general, doesn't.

So we have a bunch of phoneys in the Senate, we have a bunvh of "Phoney" want to be soldiers, what else is new.

Don't see much difference between the whole lot. They all need help to see reality.

Let's move on to more important items. I personally am getting tired of the child like behavior of many in congress. About time to clear the whole lot of small brained, loud mouth, fat, pompus windbags out, and get new faces in congress. People who don't slip earmarks in during the dark of might, people who make stupid statements just to hear their own voices, etcetera.

After the "Betray Us" ad and now a personal attack on a private citizen from a Politian I'm now motivated and Hillary Clinton is not even the Democrat nominee yet. This is going to be fun.

Rush Limbaugh should be called Radio Free Rush. He is on the front lines doing what the Republicans should be doing. He is holding the leftest dems feet to the fire.

They are lying about so many conservatives that it is difficult to keep track. The leftests only think about having absolute power and taking the power from the little people. They want to stifle freedom of speech by enforcing the so-called Fairness Doctrine.

The communists have a saying they just love, "If you state a lie often enough and loud enough, people will believe it." So, they believe if they lie about conservatives long enough and loud enough, people will begin to believe them.

Too bad some of little people know how to think, read, and write. I guess their lame educational system didn't affect us as much as they thought.

Hopefully, non-conformist thinkers will stand up and keep track of the leftest mommie dearest's (who are trying to control their so-called kids--we the American people), by watching their comments, as they are keeping track of people like Rush.

It's appalling that the Democrats, who have been sticking a knife in the back of the troops for years, are attacking a private citizen who supports the troops, over an issue manufactured by the Democrats.

I've been in the Navy 19 years and I question Harry Reid's patriotism, sanity, intelligence, ethics, continence and morals.

I'd trade the entire Democrat US Congress "support" for the support of Rush and his audience. Keep fighting for us, Rush.

Please people, if you support Rush, email the idiots in the congress and tell them what you really think of them. I have. I think a person would have to be a raving lunatic to believe Rush was speaking about our men/women in the armed forces serving in the middle east. He was talking about A person who was lying about their military record, this person was being "phony." This was also reported by other news organizations and Rush was revealing this story because of how the other news stations had originally portrayed this "phony" soldier and of his opinions on the President and the war in Iraq. That simple. Rush was pointing out that the left loons love it when American soldiers come back and complain about the President. They eat that up like chocolate donuts.

Patriots, true Americans, let us take back our country. No more cowtowing to the muslims who want special privileges denied to American christians, no more hindering of free speech by the democrats, let us make sure pedophiles are put in jail and kept there because we have judges who uphold the law, that American Universities respect the beliefs and ideologies of EVERYONE, let us get rid of every politician on either side of the aisle who does not respect the wishes of their constituencies, most of all let us fight with words to make sure Hillary NEVER gets into the white house.

I listen to Rush every day. I heard the whole thing. In context, he was most definitely referring to not just Jesse Macbeth, but a whole slew of fakers who spin tall tales of war atrocities in order to get their 15 minutes of cindy sheehan leftist media attention. Many who have since been outed as frauds who washed out or who were never in to begin with. But the democrat media slimeballs who run those fake stories on page one, run the retraction on page 53 of the classified ads just under the sewing machines for sale. It was those PHONY SOLDIERS who Rush was referring to. I heard it. end of story. I have come to hate liberals. thats right - I HATE YOU COMMIE TRAITORS. I shouldn't, but I do. Go away. move to Iran, to your beloved peace-loving islamiofascist little hitler wannabe.

There are too many Libs!

Besides his stealth-like financing of many left-wing politicians and causes, maybe George Soros also is financing some out-of-work folks to post BS on blogs about Rush and his listeners. That Soros guy sure does burrow deep and ugly, doesn't he? But the ultra-libs can't hack it on talk shows because their BS just won't fly there.

RECORDED COURT FACTS-TRUTH: Jesse MacBeth, poster boy for the anti-war left, DID had his day in court. And the "COURT RECORDS" PROVE, Jesse MacBeth IS A LIAR WHO FALSIFIED A DISTINGUISHED, MILITARY CAREER! Jesse MacBeth was sentenced to five months in jail and three years probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs claim and his Army discharge record. JESSE MACBETH WAS IN THE ARMY FOR FORTY-FOUR (44) DAYS BEFORE HE WASHED OUT,FOR YOU DEMOCRATS IT MEANS HE DIDN'T EVEN COMPLETE 'BASIC' BOOT CAMP! JESSE MACBETH IS NOT AND WAS NOT AN ARMY RANGER. HE COULDN'T BE BECAUSE HE NEVER COMPLETED 'BASIC' BOOT CAMP TRAINING. THAT MEANS JESSE MACBETH COULDN'T QUALIFY TO BE AN ARMY RANGER. JESSE MACBETH, COULDN'T BE AND WASN'T A CORPORAL IN THE ARMY! HE ALSO, 'NEVER' WON THE PURPLE HEAR, OR SERVED IN 'COMBAT',WHICH WOULD HAVE TO HAVE HAPPENED TO GET A PURPLE HEART! IN ADDITION ALL THESE DOCUMENTED 'FACTS' PROVE JESSE MACBETH COULDN'T HAVE WITNESSED THE HORRORS HE CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN IN COMBAT,HAVING NOT BEEN IN COMBAT. JESSE MACBETH IS IN 'FACT' A DOCUMENTED PHONY SOLDIER! UNFORTUNATELY OTHERS ALSO HAVE FALSIFIED DOCUMENTS OF A MILITARY CAREER. THAT MAKES THEM PHONY SOLDIER(S)! SEN.REID, AND HIS GANG THAT LIED NOW HAVE THE SPOT LIGHT ON THEM NOW AND THEIR POSTER BOY JESSE MACBETH. THEY ARE ALL WELL DOCUMENTED LIARS. SENATOR REID SHOULD BE FORCED OUT OF THE US SENATE.THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SENATOR REID HAS LIED TO THE AMERICAN VOTING PUBLIC, IN WAYS THAT HARM OUR MILITARY. THROW THE BUM AND HIS COHORTS (ILK)OUT OF THE US SENATE. REID, CLINTON,HARKINS, KENNEDY DURBIN,SCHUMER,STABNOW, MURRAY ,KERRY, MIKUSKI,LANDRIEU AND ALL COHORTS HAVE DISHONORED AND SOILED THEIR POSITIONS AND REPUTATION OF THE U.S. SENATE.A RECALL IS IN ORDER. IF THEY DON'T HAVE A RECALL PROCESS IN THEIR STATE.GET THEM OUT OF THE US SENATE UNDER ETHICS CHARGES. AND I MEAN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! A REBUKE IS NOT ENOUGH, WE ARE AT WAR. FORCED REMOVAL FROM THEIR SENATE SEATS IS THE PRICE FOR HARRY REID AND HIS COHORTS FOR FALSIFYING AND BACKING JESSE MACBETH STATEMENTS IN THE WELL OF THE SENATE, THEN CALLING FOR A REBUKE OF A PERSON WELL KNOWN FOR HIS SUPPORT OF OUR TROOPS (RUSH). I FOR ONE AM MAD AS HELL AND NOT TAKING THIS KIND OF DISGUISING BEHAVIOR BY THOSE WHO ARE 'ENTRUSTED' WITH MAKING OUR LAWS, WHILE THEY BREAK THE ETHICAL CODE OF THE SENATE BY THEIR IMMORAL CONDUCT. FACT CHECK THE TRANSCRIPT AT: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_092807/content/01125106.guest.html

I also think it's about time that Democrats start denouncing these actual phony soldiers, like Jesse Macbeth. The mainstream media loves to trot out these liars and frauds in order to get a big story, but they never seem to go back to their audience and tell them that those same people have been convicted (yes, Jesse Macbeth was convicted) of lying about being a soldier in Iraq. I also haven't heard The New Republic magazine apologize for running that fake story handed to them by Scott Thomas Beauchamp, who was also proved to be a liar and a fraud. You don't hear US Senators going on the floor of the Senate to denounce them and their false accusations. No, this is a smear plain and simple. The Democrats got pounded because of the New York Times ad and now they want payback. It really is disgusting and Harry Reid and Tom Harken should be ashamed of themselves. I doubt that people will vote for them again.

Reid is retaliating for the calls to denounce Moveon.org and the "Betray Us" ad. This is nothing more than kindergarten style insult attacks. Reid and the rest of Congress act more like children than my own kids.

Personally, I think someone should tell Reid that his job is not to make judgments concerning radio talk show hosts and it's time for Congress to get back to work. He, and the rest of Congress, are lucky they don't work for me. I'd fire the whole lot of them for failure to perform their required functions. Mr. Reid, you were elected to perform a specific job and that job description is not to take on the functions of a radio critic, we already have enough of those. Get back to work, Congress!

I read that Rush Limbaugh does many good things for American soldiers, including trips to Afghanistan etc. and he has done this for years. I wonder how many trips Harry Reid has made for the troops? And seriously does anyone think this cut and run guy really cares what the soldiers are called? It was a blantant ploy to divert attention off the Dems for their obvious support of the vile NYT article by their champions at Move On. And one last thing, I didn't see it but I heard that before the Limbaugh comment that ABC news did a news show called "Phony Soldiers." Did anyone see it? And why didn't Reid bring this up? hmmmmm
