Bush: "I believe all the world prays to the same God"

President Bush told an Arabic TV station that he believes that Christians worship the same god as Muslims, and also called rumors of a military strike against Iran "empty propaganda" during an interview yesterday.

The transcript of the interview with Al Arabiya's Elie Nakouzi was released this afternoon. Al Arabiya is one of the two top channels in the Middle East, and a direct competitor to Al Jazeerah, which many in the Bush administration regard as hostile to the U.S.

Mr. Bush and Mr. Nakouzi walked, during the interview, from the Oval Office, out past the Rose Garden and to the Map Room, which is in the White House residence.

The president talked at length about Middle East issues, speaking at times directly to the people of that region.

He said Iraq will never be partitioned into three sections and that democracy is still a priority in Iraq, despite the fact that success is more often defined now as achieving security, rather than a democratic state.

Mr. Bush also answered questions from Mr. Nakouzi about whether the president is an enemy of Muslims who wants to destroy Islam.

"I believe in an almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God," Mr. Bush said. "I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people."

Mr. Bush also said that achieving democracy in Iraq is still a U.S. goal.

"I strongly believe in the freedom movement. It's ingrained in my soul. It comes from my belief that freedom is universal," he said. "And I believe freedom is ingrained in everybody's soul and if just given a chance, they'll reach for it."

"And so security is really a step, an important step, in the freedom movement," Mr. Bush said.

Mr. Bush, when asked about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict, said that he was "very optimistic we can achieve a two-state solution."

The U.S. is scheduled to host a summit with Israeli and Palestinian leaders next month, possibly in Annapolis, Md.

"I believe in my soul, in my heart, that not only is it necessary that there be two states living side by side in order to achieve peace, but it's possible," he said.

Bush could not be more in error....unless he is being politically correct concerning religion. The various religions of the world including Christianity and Islam do not worship the same god.In each one you will find that they all have different properties and concepts of existence. They all contradict each other and logically they can not all exist. The Islamic god is based on the ancient moon god[thats why a picture of the moon is on their flag].This god has properties that rule out any chance of existing in reality [remember a contradiction cannot exist].

99% of the general publics concept of their god cannot exist for the stated reasons...essence contradictions.

We all pray to the same God? What an unbelievably ignorant statement.

If one reads the Bible and reads the Koran (whether or not you actually believe in either) you will see that the image of God preseneted in each one is very different.

It is obvious that President Bush has read neither.

I am very disappointed in President Bush's statement: "I believe in an almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God." Someone desperately needs to educate the President on the different character and attributes that are found between the Biblical God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, etc. etc. and the Islamic god of Islam. The difference is between night and day and it is clear from my study between the two faiths over the last 4 yrs. that the 2 faiths, Christianity and Islam, are DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED to each other since they are 2 VERY DIFFERENT deities being worshiped. Yahweh (YHWH) of Moses is not and can never be allah of Islam. Allah of Islam exists as a "unit" and can never have a Son, whereas YHWH exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Allah allows muslims to lie in 3 instances (in times of war, a husband is permitted to lie to his wife to keep her content, and one can lie to settle trouble between people), whereas, YHWH NEVER condones lying in OT or NT. To tell a lie is still a sin, no matter how humans choose to justify lying.

In Surah 4:157 Jesus was never crucified nor died but Allah "made it appear" that Jesus died:"BUT THEY KILLED HIM NOT, NOR CRUCIFIED HIM,BUT IT WAS MADE TO APPEAR TO THEM SO, AND THOSE WHO DIFFER THEREIN ARE FULL OF DOUBTS 5 WITH NO (CERTAIN) KNOWLEDGE,BUT THEY FOLLOW ONLY CONJECTURE,FOR OF A SURITY THEY KILLED HIM NOT."
The crucifixion, burial, and resurrection from the dead is crucial doctrine that all Christians need to believe in for their salvation. The death, burial, and bodily resurrection of Jesus is HISTORICAL FACT that has been recorded by eyewitnesses who were there and saw for themselves the crucifixion took place. The crucifixion of the Messiah was prophesied hundreds of years before the event took place (Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53, and other passages refer to the suffering and death of the Messiah in Old Testament, not to mention the prophecy that Jesus Himself made several times in the Gospel accounts that He would be crucified and be raised to life on the 3rd day!) If it did not, then all of humanity would be lost and doomed to eternity with no hope of salvation.

It is clear to me that allah of Islam deceives, even the mother of Jesus who believed that her Son was crucified!!! That is NOT the same character of the ONE TRUE GOD, YHWH. Please, Mr. President---please study for yourself the stark and huge differences between YHWH of the Bible, and Islam's allah---it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to be the same God that we worship.

My imaginary friend in the sky is better than your imaginary friend in the sky!

Could it be that perhaps like a politician, he is saying that which although not true, is expedient?
Oh wait. He is a politician.

While President Bush is entitled to adhere to any theology he chooses -- regardless of how defective or heterodox, there is little question that his personal theology (as revealed in this latest utterance) betrays a theology that is clearly foreign to the clear teaching of the Bible. I wonder what he thinks of the biblical injunction, "thou shalt have no strange gods before me?" Indeed, the President's statement is far enough afield that one may legitimately question whether this vaunted "evangelical" chief executive is even a Christian at all. (Though I am of course not able to say of a certitude that President Bush is not a Christian, I nonetheless do wonder how many true Christians host an Iftar dinner every year in their houses and incessantly proclaim against all evidence that Islam is a religion that teaches peace?)

You write: "President Bush told an Arabic TV station that he believes that Christians worship the same god as Muslims, and also called rumors of a military strike against Iran "empty propaganda" during an interview yesterday...."

Any particular reason the word "god" is spelled with a lower-case "g?" I think one thing upon which both Muslims and Christians (to say nothing of Jews) will agree is that it is common practice to spell "God" with a capital "G."

Indeed it is so odd that I cannot help but wonder: What is the axe you are attempting to grind in this instance?

This latest statement smacks of universalism that Clinton was so well known for during his stay in the White House. Anyone who has studied the respective Gods of the Bible and the Koran know that the two are not one in the same. Darkness is the absence of light and not visa versa. I cannot believe that Bush has failed to notice this glaring error. Some focus group must have told his handlers that Positive Approval and Increased Favor would be up by 18% if he (Bush) would relate Christians and Mohammedans as one. STOP! No one who takes seriously their choice of religion would respond in agreement with such a blanket statement on the nature of their God. Mr. Bush, state what you believe and do not bend, whatever weather may come. One of the largest of my peeves with Clinton was that he was a leaf upon a pool of water, cast about by the differing winds of public opinion. I had hoped that with Bush one could, whether in agreement or out, at least know where the man stood. But obviously that is not the case . . . sigh.

President Bush is right. Both Christianity and Islam are derived from Judaism. Both Islam and Christianity include elements of Judaism in their description of the ancient past, like the story of David and Goliath and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, for example. Since each religion contains similar elements, like the same angels, demons, and only one God; that one God must be common to all. Each religion may perceive that God differently in accordance to their specific understanding and worship of that God, but they all worship the same God.

We believe in the same G-d if when we believe in a G-d that commands us to be loving, forgiving, kind, and mercyful to our fellowman. We are all in G-d's image when we reflect these G-d like qualities. When we slander, hate, steal, murder, ect. we mock the very G-d that gave us live to live more noble.

We all honor, love and respect our true Creator when we show that same honor, love and respect for one another. To murder in G-d's name is to mock the very G-d that gave us the gift of life. We can kill for food (animals)if we are hungry and we are allowed to kill in self defense if someone is threatehing our life, but murder against defensless civilians is forbidden by a true G-d and religion of justice, kindness and love.

When death cult types of religon like the Islamic Wahabbis send their children out to blow up innocent civilians, that is not the same G-d that we Americans be we Christian, Jewish, Muslims, Hindu, Buddist, etc. belive in. There is a difference Mr. President and I hope you can make that distinction, otherwise, our country is in big trouble if our leaders can't determine the difference between good and evil as advocated in our respective Bibles. If we can't reform our enemies after numerous attempts and goodwill guesture for peace then we have to defeat this kind of evil in the name of terrorism or armed struggle, not compromise with it or give it legitimacy. A nation under G-d has to have a clear understanding that a G-d of higher wisdom and love cannot be a G-d that uses hate and terrorism to get H-s message acrosss. If we have to slander or hurt others in order to get our Creator's message across then that message is not from G-d. Someting very spiritualis missing here. The G-d I belive in advocates that the righteous of all nations have a place in the world to come. That is, the good people of all faiths. G-d is much more tolerant than some of the radical prejudicial so-called religions we see in our world today. The good people of all faith must join together to win the power over the evil forces we now are dealing with. I pray we all will united together for true love and peace inthe world and the only way to do this is to defeat those who teach their children to hate and kill in G-d's name. We owe it to the true G-d of all mankind to honor our Creator by being better role models and having the courage to stand up eo evil not give in to it or give it legitimacy like we did with Arafat,Hitler, etc. and now some people want to do the same with Marwan Barghoute the new proposed leader of the PLO who also has blood on his hands and proudly claims how he killed scores of Israelis and others and how he helped to fund the Tanzim so they could buy the weapons to carry out more terrorists operations. Sorry, people who calim to be religious who do these things be they Arab, Gentile, Jewish or any other nationality, are not worshing the same G-d I as a practing Jew worship or that most observant Christians and moderate Moslems worship. There is a difference Mr. Prsident.

Sincerely,

Barbara Ann Fennell Bloom, President
Peace Through Torah Truth, Inc.

The religious spazzes here would be well advised to make note of the true outrage of Bush's statement "And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people."

As Bush makes a grand statement about unity under a religious umbrella he also proves himself not to be religious. Ergot irony.

The rest of his speech contains his political objectives that are resulting in the murder of innocent people. The worst military mistake in United States history doesn't compute as a "freedom movement."

What an ignorant hypocrite this buffoon is:

"And I believe people who murder the innocent to
achieve political objectives aren't religious
people."

What had the several hundred thousand innocent Iraqi woman children killed by his hand and closer to whatever deity they believed in done?

If there is such a body as the Antichrist, it is currently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC.

I never before imagined it possible to hate someone as much as I do him.

We continue down this path of of putting our hope in man; all it takes is the professional politicians telling us they are Christians, they pray each day, go to church on Sunday and carry their Bible. Then, like sheep we believe them and put our trust in them. After they are in office, they revert back to political correctness' "islam is a religion of peace" ..."all religions worship the same god", baloney! We're deceived again. When will we ever learn... a politician is a politican is a politician. Shame on us. There is only one true God and YHWH is his name Mr. President!

First of all, is there truth to this article? 2nd, if President Bush actually said what he is quoted as saying, we know it's purely political posturing....but a sad deception nonetheless, which neither the muslims nor anyone else will accept. OF COURSE, he knows the differences between religions, this man is NOT stupid. However, it is a SAD DAY for all Americans when our own President feels he has to kow-tow to the liberal islamic press. Only the deluded zombies of the United Religions, who want to create a single, world-wide religion, will applaud and rejoice at this news. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father but by me...." John 14:6. Everyone has the right to choose whether to accept or reject that statement, but the consequences are eternal.

I wish we could elect President Bush for another term, he is the best!

I have seen and heard a lot of silly and inept things from past presidents but Bush takes the prize for the most silly and inept. We the people have failed in our duty as conscientious citizens per the tenants of the Constitution. We need to take politics more seriously so we can act prudently as a whole and not allow anymore Bushes, Clintons, and the like to be our president.

This statement, if it's correct, indicates that President Bush is not a Christian--that is, a follower of Jesus Christ. Remember Jesus' response to the Pharisees who claimed God was their father? He told them, "You are of your father, the Devil." Also, it was Jesus Himself Who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me."

If President Bush was "just being politically correct," he was lying about eternal truths of eternal importance to myriads of souls who are listening to him, and that is reprehensible. But if he was speaking according to his own faith, he's without hope in this world and the next since his religious faith is not neither biblical nor Christian.

No man can proclaim Jesus Christ to be the Son of God and Lord of all creation, and at the same time proclaim Mohammed to be God's prophet.

As the Psalmist says, "For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens" (Psalm 96:5).

Honestly, I suspect President Bush knew what he was saying wasn't true, but he was ashamed to speak the truth. So sad, really; to deny the Savior Who bought us with His Own blood.

This is unfortunate, since there is no evidence at all for any deity. All deists operate on blind faith--belief based on what other powerful people have told them to believe unquestioningly. It's brainwashing, pure and simple.

It's effective because it couples itself with natural law and natural human emotions so that people don't realize that ethics are human-based--not religion-based.

This anti-science president is stating that the non-existent supernatural being that people may believe in due to their cultural indoctrination is one and the same. Mr. Bush, it's all myth, legend, and folklore. All religions with an explicit supernatural being termed a "god," "goddess," or anything else are simply what I've termed "metaphor cults."

Metaphor cults are organized institutions based on evolved forms of ancient beliefs based on superstition, desires and actions of power elites to control citizens, and mostly derived from ancient attempts to explain a puzzling and sometimes frightening world.

I find it sad that, in 2007, we are still operating as if these many oppressive forms of indoctrination are all valid and, in fact, the same.

Yep, (king idiot) is best thing since the atom bomb! His dyslexia has gotten the best of him. Instead of treat them like a dog, it's really
treat them like a god!

I feel for the people who voted for him, thinking that a snake won't bite the hand that fed it! Actually, the people who voted for him
were a minority. Until caging and other under-handed tricks of stealing was their choice to win two Elections 2000 & 2004.

And for you so called "Christians" where does
Jesus assault abortion, gay-marriage, & bombing
them all just to get the right one!

Don't bother you can't! Please stop the Hatred!

It is true that all religions are the same in that they are all nonsense, but it is clear to anyone with any sense that they are not ideologically the same. Also, Islam is not a religion of peace. The same goes for Christianity, although Christianity has improved somewhat since the crusades and inquisition. If you do not think that Christianity is a religion of war, you should read the Bible, especially the first five books (the Torah) and Revelation. In the Bible, the Israelites wipe out entire cities, including women and children, although sometimes the girls are kept for sex. Sometimes the cities to be destroyed are described as wicked, but other times there is no wrongdoing going on (read carefully) and the Israelites just want their land, which god supposedly promised them. In addition, since the Bible was written, it and Christianity have been used to justify numerous wars, such as the crusades. The three religions of Abraham - Judaism, Islam and Christianity - all perpetuate intolerance because the Bible and Koran say that all other religions are false and must be wiped out or at least subjugated. Until all religions forsake active conversions (no missionaries, people would have to come in on their own), allow their own followers to freely convert (conversion is forbidden in some religions, especially Islam, which kills those who leave (seriously, it's the law in many Middle Eastern countries)) and learn to tolerate each other, there will be no peace.

First: David, I suppose "Shut up" would diminish the high moral tone of this board, so let me just say that you have very little to offer.

Next: For the rest of you high-and-mighty ones here, who insist that Pres. Bush "come clean," let me suggest that the "honesty" you prefer will lead to megadeaths.

If that is okay with you, then please post here saying:

a) the deaths of hundreds of millions of Muslims as a result of my desired policy is OK, especially if even one percent of them are forcibly converted to your version of Christianity

b) the deaths of millions of non-Muslims is OK

c) I take responsibility for a) and b) above and will personally act to claim my share of a). In other words, ideally I will enlist in combat arms and kill the enemy myself; otherwise in a CS or CSS role to support the fighters; otherwise as a citizen, in any way I can, I will support the war effort and encourage others to do so.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggy" till you find a rock. I'm sorry it seems un-Christian to you, this effort to avoid killing people. However, to those with more information available to them, it seems best to do so. Perhaps the President would like to be as obnoxious and confrontational as you, but finds himself constrained by other factors.

Last: Maybe it was on another thread, but there was some chatter about evangelicals or somebody staying home or voting third party if some candidate they like (presumably Giuliani, but maybe Thompson or anyone else who annoys Dr. Dobson) is chosen for the GOP. "Boo hoo, I can't support a candidate who [X,Y,X...]."

Let me ask you this: Haven't you said, above, that for Christians at least, it is a sin to tell a lie? Because I think such a claim is a lie. Otherwise it shows more moral vacuity than you accuse Pres. Bush of displaying.

I believe it is self-evident that if you have a choice between electing someone who will kill a million Americans and someone who will kill a hundred million Americans, you really have to go all out in supporting the former against the latter.
