Fla. Dems blame GOP for DNC action

The Democratic National Committee votes to strip Florida of its convention delegates and who do Florida Democrats blame?

Republicans!

Florida Democrats said they blame the Republican-controlled state legislature for slipping the early primary into a new law that also creates a paper trail for electronic ballots.

"So they put it in there knowing full well that Democrats could not vote against a paper trail," Karen Thurman, the Florida Democratic Chair, said.

Translation: "We are so stupid, it's unfair to hold us responsible for our votes."

Which, if you think about it, was basically their argument in the 2000 recount fiasco.

Purple Avenger had great sport with this:

When FL moved its primary to January 29, the vote in the FL legislature was 115:1 for doing so. Where I come from this is known as "strong bipartisan support" ...

Here's the press release from Gov. Crist's signing ceremony in West Palm Beach May 21.

He was joined at the bill signing ceremony by Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Arthur Anderson, Congressman Robert Wexler, bill sponsors Representatives David Rivera (R-Miami) and Dorothy Hukill (R-Port Orange) and Senators Lee Constantine (R-Altamonte Springs) and Jeremy Ring (D-Margate) and other legislators ...

So, no shortage of support by Florida Democrats when the bill was passed and signed into law, but now that Howard Dean's DNC has stripped the state of its delegates, somehow it's all the GOP's fault.

Before the DNC acted, as Donald Lambro reported, Florida Democrats were talking lawsuits:

Democratic lawmakers from Florida have threatened to sue the Democratic National Committee if it goes through with a plan to penalize the state party for participating in a Jan. 29 presidential primary.

"If the DNC strips Florida of all or some of its delegates to the national convention -- we would ask the appropriate legal officials to determine whether this could violate any state or federal laws governing and protecting individual voting rights," the lawmakers said in a letter to DNC Chairman Howard Dean.

But why bother suing fellow Democrats, when it's so much easier to blame everything on Republicans?

It will be interesting to see how independent "swing" voters in Florida react to this little intra-party spat.

utterly amazed at the decisions the democratic party/leaders arrive at when they fail.it is evident their decisions have been self serving and short on vision.

Ah those Democratz! Ya just have to love 'em. By Tuesday they will claim it has all been an evil plot by Bush and Chenny, and Howard Dean will invite those goofy Floridians back into the fold.

The DNC and the GOP are not branchs of government. They are in fact private clubs. They should be setting dates and voting in their own primary when and where they wish and not using the resources of the tax payer to run their clubs. I beleave in a seperation of party as well as a seperation of chuch and state. And beleave that seperation of party and state by is far more importent to our freedom.

I don't think voters care about this kind of stuff

you retards

Sounds just like when the Democrats blamed Republicans for the "confusing" butterfly ballot in 2000...which was designed and approved entirely by Palm Beach County Democrats!

You can't run politics and legislation on a blame agenda and then try to get different results internally. Once it becomes embedded, everything is handled in same manner. The best example is the Democrat led Congress. They said they were voted in for change, and what the voters got was more the same hearings, the same tactics and the same blame. Senator Clinton is the blamer elite, if we get attacked again, guess what, it will benefit the Republicans, therefore why should the Republicans prevent another attack, therefore another attack is the Republicans fault. The immigration bill rattled grass roots complacency. When the grass roots start catching on to the rhetoric, they will start demanding some interesting questions from the candidates.

Kyle-

You babbling ass; neither the DNC, nor the GOP is a "private club". The DNC is the nominating/activist branch of the liberal/Democrat party. The GOP is a political party. At least get it straight before you trash both in one sentence.

You meant to go the Washington POST website....where the "truth" is whatever comes out of Hillary or Howard Dean's mounth today!

Katherine Harris counted the Florida votes while Howard Dean said the Florida votes don't count. Ironic, isn't it?

Why can't the Florida Democrats just petition to Governor Crist to call a special session of the legislature to delay their primary? With all the money the Democratic candidates are raising, they could easily afford to pay for the switch.

I just love Republican spin.

I guess you guys need a right-wing news site like this, because from what im hearing, this is my immediate impression.

Don't try to change history Molly G. The final sign off of the butterfly ballots in 2000 belonged to Secretary of State Katherine Harris. She was to make sure that State law was followed, and she failed in her duties.

It is evident (to me anyway) that a key tactic of the Democrats - whether at the State level or at Congress - is to overwhelm the public with empty gestures, and hope that we confuse motion with progress. They do nothing but spout rhetoric and lay blame. I hope that the voting public remembers this when voting season rolls around again.

The butterfly ballots were concocted by the Florida Dems in conjunction with the Gore campaign. They KNEW what they were doing! Having a ballot that could later be questioned and manipulated to their advantage in a recount was pretty clever.

And, as to recounts. That's how the Dems steal a lot of elections. Get close, demand a recount, then keep recounting till they are ahead, then stop the count and claim "victory."

Whatever their problems, blame them on others.

Irresponsible crooked sleezeballs!

O.k., I previewed them, and they all should work when submitted.

I being a life long Dem since John F. have seen many changes in the party, the biggest change has been in the way they think, ask not what your country can do for you has been replaced with, if you can't dazzel them with brillance baffel them with BULL----.

somewhat like blaming bill clinton for 9/11, katrina, iraq and bush choking on a pretzel!

Jacques St. Pierre, I've voted using butterfly ballots many times. Anyone so dumb they can't figure it out shouldn't be voting in the first place.

Robert Wexler and his buddy Charlie Crist orchestrated this fiasco. Snookered the dems into voting for this bill by baiting them with an optical scanner. Now they try and backpeddle out of their stupid choices once again. How long will the public tolerate this incompetence and culture of corruption. Just until 2008 when they vote these fools out of office. A 14% popular rating is to high for these so called public servants.
