CAIR vs. YAF

THURSDAY UPDATE: Spencer speaks on "the wrath of CAIR."

PREVIOUSLY ...

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is demanding that the Young America's Foundation cancel a planned speech Thursday by author Robert Spencer.

Mr. Spencer, author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" and founder of Jihad Watch, is scheduled to speak on the topic "The Truth About CAIR," at 4 p.m. today at YAF's national student conference at George Washington University.

Calling Mr. Spencer "a well-known purveyor of hatred and bigotry against Muslims" with a "history of false and defamatory statements," an attorney for CAIR on Wednesday wrote a letter (click here to see the letter in PDF format) to"demand that YAF cancel the subject session, or else take steps to ensure that false and defamatory statements are not disseminated at that session."

"CAIR has consistently taken a principled position against terrorism and extremism," Joseph E. Sandler, attorney for CAIR, wrote in his letter to YAF.

"Our clients have instructed us to pursue every available and appropriate legal steps to ensure that false and defamatory statements are not disseminated" during Mr. Spencer's speech, wrote Mr. Sandler.

"We're not going to be intimidated" by people "who are opposed to free expression," YAF spokesman Jason Mattera told The Washington Times. "Not only are we going to have [Mr. Spencer] speak, but [we] are opening the session up to more interns and we will publicize the event further."

More than 400 conservative college students from around the country are attending the weeklong YAF conference, which continues through Friday at GWU's Marvin Center, 800 21st Street NW.

Mr. Spencer responds:

Note the personal smears, the attempt to bully and intimidate, and the non-specificity of the charges against me (they can't be specific, because I don't say anything inaccurate about them -- or about Islam or jihad).
Bryan Preston at Hot Air was the first blogger to break the CAIR-YAF countretemps:
This is an effort to stifle free speech in advance of anything having actually been said. It's pernicious in my humble opinion, and a serious mistake on CAIR's part to try to preempt its critics.
Michelle Malkin observes:
CAIR's legal counsel, Joseph Sandler, is also the [Democratic National Committee's] counsel ...
Ms. Malkin links to Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, who isn't a CAIR fan:
This group of Saudi-funded unindicted co-conspirators really is getting bold.
Expect updates ....

UPDATE, 9 p.m.:

"I'm shocked," YAF President Ron Robinson said before dinner here at GWU's Marvin Center, reacting to CAIR's letter demanding the cancellation of Robert Spencer's speech.

"It really is unprecedented. ... I thought I'd seen it all, but not even to let a man have his say ... " Mr. Robinson said, his voice trailing off in a tone of mystification.

Mr. Robinson was sharing a dinner table with radio host Michael Reagan and Mr. Reagan's daughter Ashley Marie Reagan (shown in this family photo as a little girl in a pink dress). Mr. Reagan regaled the students at the YAF conference with stories of his relationship with his father, and explained President Reagan's political beliefs.

In discussions before the dinner, students here were surprised to learn of CAIR's letter and expressed even more surprise that the YAF conference has now become a cause celebre among conservative bloggers.

UPDATE, 9:30 p.m.:

Michael Reagan closed his speech to the YAF conference by telling students to spread the message of Ronald Reagan: "Your job is ... to tell others on your campuses about this great man. ... Don't forget what he did for us. Don't forget what he did for you."

CAIR ... love to play the victim card while at the same time being on the cultural offensive.

Also to mention the fact that CAIR mouthpiece (or some orifice) of CAIR, Ibrahim Hooper, has no problem misinforming the public when given the spotlight, not to verbally attack people who are not even present. This was done to Robert Spencer last night.

cAIR is a anti-american, anti-liberty, pro-islamic world rule group that uses lies, intimidation, false injury, racial and religous bigotry to fuel its evil (yes, I know and mean that word) goal of domination on the world at large and America in general. We as Americans have a duty, regardless of our religion, race, or history-to promiote liberty, justice, and freedom. Everything our goverment can't seem to figure out right now.. regardless if it is a democrat, republican, or other.. we need to as a people go back to the roots of our dream and make it right again. And stopping evil, anti-american, andti-freedom, and hate-mongering people in our own hosue is the first step.

Joseph Sandler, counsel for the DNC, has just given the Republicans a wonderful gift.

One wonders if Sandler is a double agent. How much did Rove pay him to write this absurd letter?

It's no longer a trite concern, it's no longer a time for political correctness and it's no longer a time for appeasement towards Muslim jihadies and their CAIR mouthpieces. It is time for an all out crusade (an effort of full blown religious zeal) to eradicate radical fundamentalist Islam, and its supporters from the face of the Earth. Wake up America!

Where is America heading? Sharia law ruled society? I am upset with these people at CAIR and other Saudi backed Wahhabists trying to take-over the US. It's bad and evil... I m glad Mr. Spencer and YAF didnt cave in.

Yes! I just left Hot Air with this supportive statement for Jason Materra:

“CAIR can go to Hell and they can take their 72 virgins with them.”

And when the hell is our country going to stand up, like the famous “Network moment” and say the same frakin thing?
It is time! It is time! IT. IS. TIME!

We are mad as hell and we are NOT foing to take it anymore! ! ! !

DOUBLE DITTO HERE! JASON AND YOUNG AMERICANS! ! !
WWDD? (That's What would "Duke" do? He'd kick their arses, Pilgrims!)

Many of us in the West are confused as to why our President is spending our tax dollars in support of CAIR. Could you folk in DC shed some light on why GWB supports CAIR?

Geez, trying to stop someone from making a speech? I do not undrstand how that can be done, since poor Mr. Spencer has not even taken the stage yet. How is CAIR aware of what he may say? Could it be the truth? Perhaps CAIR should listen prior to jumping to conclusions. Do those who disagree with "their agenda" not have a right to speak of that agenda? I applaude the YAF for standing for it's right to have anyone it wishes to speak before it.

Attorney Sandler deserves much better than the vulgar abuse being heaped on him. I have it on good authority that no one - NO ONE - at YAF paid him to write that wonderful letter that is a PR flak's dream. He evidently did it pro bono, or maybe on CAIR's dime, but in either case let me be the first YAF fan to express my gratitude for his unexpected largesse and contribution to the cause. Well done sir!

The anti-freedom Islamofascists over at CAIR need a lesson in free speech.

Conservatives should spread Spencer's message far and wide. Good for YAF for not backing down!

Thank G-D for Spencer. He should have success in getting his message out, and for people to take to heart what he has to say and then to spread that message further until CAIR is seen by all for the monsters they are.

Great comeback to C.A.I.R.
Glad that Fox brought it up. I will continue to view your web site.
Thanks,
Bill

This is typical for CAIR, which should actually stand for the Council on American Islamic Revolution. Here in Boston, they went after everybody who reported on an Islamic Society of Boston council member (who just HAPPENED to be on the city's HUD board as well) for swinging a sweetheart deal which, in effect, had the city undrewriting the construction of a major ISB mosque in Roxbury.

They've gone after anti-CAIR and withdrew prior to discovery, they've gone after people investigating and reporting the ISB/Roxbury Mosque scam and withdrew before discovery, and now they plan on withdrawing John Does from the Flying Imam case.

This is Islamic terrorism by tort. They impact peoples' lives financially and otherwise in order to shut them up, then withdraw before any discovery is launched. I'd say it makes you wonder what they're hiding, but we all know already, don't we?

The fact that the general counsel for the DNC, those champions of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, is involved in trying to silence YAF and Robert Spencer is absolutely disgusting, but also relevatory about the DNC as well. There WILL be a political price to be paid for all this in time, for both CAIR and the DNC.

I have to give it to Ibrahim Hooper, though. He's the sharpest tack to come down the road since Goebbels. To make radical Islamists look like victims takes some savvy and some chutzpah, and he's got more fastballs than a pig has ribs!

It has been made clear by Jamie Glazov's article in FrontPageMagazine, 2/5/07 ,titled The Study of Political Islam, that there is a religious Islam and a political Islam. Using statistics it appears that religious Islam is about 15% of the belief system-the rest is political Islam. Muslims should be allowed to practice the religious part of their belief system. The rest of the belief system codified in that subversive hate document, the Koran, aims to overthrow the U.S. government and the Constitution. Practicing or advocating for that 85% of the document should be prosecuted under the Smith Act. This was passed during the Cold War to contain domestic Communists and it's still on the books. Get busy folks.

Robert Spencer is a classic American religious & racial bigot. The Young America's Foundation is another manifestation of the KKK spirit among conservatives.

Robert Spencer and his followers have expressed numerous times their desire to commit acts of violence, warfare and genocide against the Muslims. Anyone who reads conservative blogs will know that such bloodthirsty expressions are common currency among ignorant American bigots.

These people also want to repeat the repeal Freedom of Speech and Freedom of religion. They would forbid Muslims from practicing their religion and expressing any political view which is contrary to conservative xenophobia.

They have repeated and explicitly threatened to attacked the holy sites of Islam. Prominent conservatives have explicitly expressed their desire to bomb Mecca and Medina.

Ann Coulter would convert the Muslims by force into Christianity. In doing so, she is only follow the traditions of Christianity. Christians committed acts of genocide to take control over the New World. The Mayans and the Incas did not adopt Christianity by choice, there were weapons and bloodshed involved.

Those who portray Islam as a violent religion because of the crime committed by Osama Bin Laden (murdering 3,000 on 9/11) overlook the crime committed by George W. Bush (murdering over 100,000 civilians in Iraq). The United States of America specifically targeted civilians in all of its wars of the 20th century and continues that tradition today.

The KKK and the Young America's Foundation ... the Republican party of the 21st century! Is it any wonder that the American people have removed the Christian fundamentalists from control over congress and will do so again during the next presidential election.

The United States of America needs to get a handle on its Christian fundamentalists. These ignorant, violent, xenophobic extremists have led America into futile, unecessary aggressive wars. They have killed over 100,000 civilians. They are as evil as the Jihadists.
