Four Democratic senators this morning asked Solicitor General Paul Clement to appoint a special prosecutor who would investigate whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has misled Congress or perjured himself in recent testimony.
"The attorney general has provided -- at a minimum -- half-truths and misleading statements about the removal and replacement of U.S. Attorneys, about his role in trying to circumvent Acting Attorney General [Jim] Comey, and about the administration's position on the NSA wiretapping program," said a letter from the senators to Mr. Clement.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat, said that Mr. Gonzales' "instinct is not to tell the truth, but to dissemble and deceive."
The Justice Department has said Mr. Gonzales is standing by his testimony, and the White House this morning took aim at Democrats for their actions.
"Every day congressional Democrats prove that they're more interested in headlines than doing the business Americans want them to do," said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. "And Americans are now taking notice that this Congress, under Democratic leadership, is failing to tackle important issues."

In response to Tony Fratto's rebuke, what business could be more important to the citizens of this country than defending the integrity of our constitution and our democracy from the clutches of those who seek to subvert it and trample on it. These will be historic headlines and are long overdue. This administration will go down in history as a scourge on our nation regardless of whether the players are prosecuted by Democrats now or by the history books of the future. Impeach the b****rds, impeach them all. Enough of this charade of an administration, the never-ending painful comedy of errors and terror, and the damage to our standing in the world community. 2008 is not soon enough to be rid of this arrogant, dishonest, self-serving club of good ol' boys. There is no more important business that my congressmen and women could conduct than the speedy removal of this vipers nest that we call the executive branch and to restore our dignity and credibility to ourselves and the world.

"... is failing to tackle important issues."
What issues is Tony Fratto accusing the DEMs of not tackling?

Just want to point out that the news story about Gonzales and the FBI Director is on the front page of just about EVERY newspaper/station, etc. in the country. Yet SOMEHOW, The Washington Times fails to make this story headline news. Instead, the only related story it posts in a conspicuous spot on its web site is one which is entitled "Democrats want prosecutor for Gonzales probe" which is, of course, a half-truth. Members of both parties are calling for Gonzales to be investigated, not just Democrats. We are seriously now past the point of blaming the corruption of this administration on a "liberal conspiracy". It's rediculous.
