The White House released news late last night that President Bush, on the plane ride home from his week-long trip to Europe, called three senators key to the immigration reform talks, "to thank them for their work on the immigration bill and strategize how to get it passed."
Mr. Bush called Sen. John Kyl, Arizona Republican, Sen. Edward Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, and Sen. Ken Salazar, Colorado Democrat.
Mr. Bush today will visit the Senate Republican Policy luncheon, where he will try to ressurect the immigration reform package that failed last week, said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.

Yo, Washington, Mr. President, Congress -
NO! on this immigration bill
NO -
NO -
NO - NO - NO.
Why don't you prove to us "skeptics" and "doubters" that you really have the will to secure our borders FIRST? You promised to control illegal immigration back in 1986. You haven't. You promised to build a 700 mile fence last year, but funded only 2 miles of it. We're way behind on hiring more Border Patrol agents as promised.
Prove to us that you're serious about controlling illegal immigration. Then we-the-people, whose welfare you are sworn to SERVE and PROTECT (in case you've forgotten) will be willing to debate your immigration reform measures. Personally, I think everything crammed into SB1348 should be broken out - a separate bill for border security, a separate bill to revise our immigration policy, a separate bill to set up guest worker status, a separate bill for employer enforcement... but that's just me. I'm willing to let my Congressmen debate whether or not the current conglomeration is wise and desirable - AFTER YOU CONTROL THE BORDERS.
BORDER CONTROL COMES FIRST AND IS ABSOLUTELY NON-NEGOTIABLE.
