Fred Thompson teams up with McCain on trail

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Fred Thompson, who for much of last year's presidential shadow campaign was the great conservative hope, will finally campaign in person with John McCain.

Thompson, like most of the rest of McCain's former opponents for the Republican presidential nomination, has endorsed McCain but, unlike the others, had not appeared with him on the campaign trail.

Thompson gave only a terse endorsement to McCain after dropping out of the race earlier this year, saying, "This is no longer about past preferences or differences. It is about what is best for our country, and for me that means that Republican should close ranks behind John McCain."

He'll have to say something more about McCain in this appearance — and it will be interesting to see how far he can go, given his sharp distinctions with McCain during the campaign, including charging that the senator had abandoned the Constitution and the Reagan coalition.

Fred,

Please stick to your guns. Don't be like some of these many other folks (Santorum, for instance) going completely back on what they said during the primaries about issues. Go ahead and say McCain is a war hero (actually, there's no need to say this, because McCain will say that about himself quite readily), but don't compromise your principles and say that McCain is a conservative or is solid on conservative issues.

I agree! Stick to your guns Fred! Don't bow down to the establishment. You gave millions of die-hard GOP supporters hope that a true conservative exists; that the constitution is NOT just a peace of paper; that being a conservative means STOP SPENDING! Stick to your principles, stay conservative and remain consistent in your convictions. Do not compromise your positions when you endorse McCain.

Fred,
I Agree with the two statements above. Conservative Principles are the Principles that our Nation was founded upon. Please continue to uphold them and I pray God to Intervene in all this mess that has been set in motion.

yep. Dont carry water for McCain... He sold out conservatives, so why make any effort to help him when you know what he will do if in office.

North Carolinian Conservatives, listen up: VOTE HILLARY.
