Breaking: Fred Thompson drops out

As an update to my earlier blog today wondering what Fred was up to, he has dropped out. Now the real speculating begins. Here's his statement:

"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people."

— Stephen Dinan, national political reporter, The Washington Times

Americans and the United States as a whole is poorer today for not listening to and responding favorably to the only real conservative in the race for President. We would be better off if we stopped listening to sound bites, and looking at pretty faces, and look at the record of positions of our selections. I will vote for whomever the Republicans nominate, but reluctantly. Thanks for trying Fred! GWW

It's a shame Fred did not get started back in July or earlier; I think it would have made a big difference. He was the only candidate who could be relied upon to act on conservative principles in every situation. The other candidates are conservative on one or two issues and wishy washy in all the rest. Should a third party campaign be considered for conservatives?
