Hillary gets an edge at CBC? Over Obama?

Well this is certainly interesting -- an e-mail from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation I found waiting in my inbox.

Hmmm ...

Is the foundation quietly trying to unofficially endorse Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton?cbcf.jpg
None of the other candidates in the race for the Democratic nomination has his own forums, and none of them has the exclusive endorsement of the majority of Congressional Black Caucus members.

Certainly Sen. Barack Obama, who is a member of the CBC, can't be too happy about this. He has more CBC endorsements than any of the other candidates, many of them admitted Clinton supporters in the past with good relationships with Bill and Hillary.

I got a tip about this from two of the presidential campaigns who were adamant that the CBCF was circumventing the true mission of the CBC Annual Legislative Caucus: To talk to and learn from their constituents about the issues that should drive their legislative policies.

But CBC spokeswoman Keiana Barrett said that is exactly what they are doing.

"Part One was a meeting with youth leaders and congressional leaders on the Hill on how they could be part ... of the best process to build bridges. We could not accommodate a presidential debate and the charwoman wanted to present their agenda in a broader context, and Sen. Clinton has been a part of the ALC for a host of years so the idea was to partner with her to give these young people a forum. It is not an endorsement, the chairman has not made an endorsement and the individual members have given their endorsements," Ms. Barrett said.

But this hasn't happened before: a presidential candidate getting his or her own forum without the others having equal time or being part of the forum itself.

Just look at the attendees and the topics -- they certainly sound presidential:

NAACP Youth & College Division, National Black Caucus of State Legislators, Hip Hop Caucus, the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, Black Leadership Forum, United States Student Association, and Black Youth Vote will present questions to Sen. Hillary Clinton regarding education, the economy, voting rights and health care.

I'm very sure Obamam is not happy about this. When you are a part of an organization, you would want them to support you and not your opponent. But, I guess whatever happens, happens. It's the decision of the CBCF to pick who they want to support and how they will support them. I'm going to leave this one to them.

This is an example of the most obvious and blatant tactic used often by Chairwoman Kilpatrick. Of course we can all see through her mis-use of her position to endorse Hillary! But, we count on the young progressive African American party members to see right through Hillary's patronizing politics. I trust she will give them her best worn and tired 'drone-n-drawling' Clintonisms and the audience will come away with an even stronger support for Barack Obama!

Hillary can have their endorsement. But she will not have my endorsement.
I will vote for Barack Obama, not because he's black, but because he's better than Clinton...and sorry if you disagree!

I am more interested on who can unite this country than divide it.

I am absolutely stunned that the Congressional BLACK Caucus Foundation would not have the ONLY African American Senator who is the ONLY African American Democratic Party candidate as the person highlighted by this forum. Senator Obama is a member of the CBC-Hillary IS NOT. And yet, Senator Obama is not even included in this forum-it's all about Hillary. All of the members of the CBCF should be ashamed of what they have done by condoning this.

I am so disappointed by many of those blacks elected to leadership many of whom came out of the Civil Rights tradition. People like Charlie Randall and many of those perpetuating this myth of Bill Clinton as the "First Black President"... totally and shamelessly mis-representing what Toni Morrison was talking about. Now they have the opportunity to really lead and rally African-Americans around the Obama campaign they are instead tripping over each other to shamelessly curry-favor from the corrupt Clinton network and sell-out their peoples historical and national interests for the promise of access and a few dollars "campaign consultant fees".... Just look at the hit-man, I'm sorry, the South Carolina State Senator who was paid to attack Obama as not being "black enough", as if Hillary is some what "blacker" thank Obama... ridiculous!

Well this may be a history making event to see the black masses lined up behind Obama and the so-call Black Leadership, with a few exceptions, lined up behind their "New Black Hope" Hillary! They really think we're stupid. We now see why the Democratic Party has been taking us for granted because they have long known that our so-call leaders came at a very cheap price and they were only ambitious to the extent that many of them could personally profit. Now I truly understand Shirley Chisholm disappointment for having the rug pulled from under her feet by her fellow black members of congress who dismissed her campaign and sold her out to the white power structure in the Democratic Party.

Shame on the reporter for misleading us. This is NOT an example of a mis-step by the CBC or the CBCF. In fact, Sen.Obama led an Issue Forum at the ALC today, (Friday, his session was from 1-3pm, Se. Clinton's was from 9-10:30 am.) Check the schedule at www.2007.com. And there's a picture of Barack Obama on the home page, not of Hillary...I was at the Washington Convention Center, and can tell you that there was a long line of folks who wanted to get into his session, plus a long line of supporters buying Obama'08 t-shirts and buttons in the Exhibit Hall. Obama was NOT dissed at this event. Finally, don't forget: the CBCF is a FOUNDATION that would lose its tax-free status if it endorsed a candidate. Don't be misled by the way the reporter worded his article (some who read the article were, apparently, based on their posts. Journalists shouldn't do that to readers.)There was NO direct or implied endorsement, period.

Obama had a previous engagement, that I am very glad he made. Howard University hosted Obama to give a speech for our 140th Convocation. There were thousands in attendance. The auditorium was full of people. Hopefully you'll see it in the news in the morning.

CBC is a slapstick comedy act. The members are lining up behind Hillary because they know that Obama doesn't have a chance and they have seen how the Clinton's rewarded "their Blacks" in the past.
Rumor has it that Obama will be asked to serve as vice president. That would be perfect for Obama in terms of establishing his "experience", especially in foreign policy, and he would be very difficult to defeat after the Clinton terms were over. I still think that he would be a terrible president just as he has been a terrible everything else, except in how he relates to white folks. His policy proposals are ridiculous (a health care proposal that doesn't come close to covering everyone and a funding pyramid scheme that is a joke). He is unlikely to accept such an offer anyway.

To those of you that plan to vote for Obama because you believe he will unite this country, I would like to remind you that Bush was "a uniter not a divider". The largest advantage to Clinton over Obama is that she has weathered the firestorm we call DC and she has been made tough as nails because of it. I don't see Republicans pushing her around too much. Obama on the other hand is soft. He is not strong enough to take on and beat the Republicans, in fact, he is not strong enough to win the general election. If we want the WH back in 09 we are going to have to nominate strength over preaching. Give it a lot of thought before you vote for Obama and allow another Republican to occupy the WH in 09.

This is rather astonishing! One would have thought that an orginazation that Obama is part of would suport their member. I want to see what Obama's response is to this!

This action of the CBC does not surprise me.

Some members appear to worship the Clintons.

Clinton Honored As 'First Black President' at Black Caucus Dinner
By Marc Morano
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
October 01, 2001

(CNSNews.com) - Former President Bill Clinton was honored as the nation's first black president Saturday at the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Annual Awards Dinner on in Washington, DC.

The chair of the all-Democratic caucus, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Tex.), told the crowd that Clinton "took so many initiatives he made us think for a while we had elected the first black president."

Just what IS Sen. Hillary Clinton's touted experience? They do much talking about it, but no specifics. And, why is it that when the issues heat up, like in debates and forums, she resorts to "10 second sound bites" to end her talks? AND, her husband, our former president, is jumping out there to defend her and attack Sen. Obama who really DOES have deep issue explanations. What are they scared about when it comes to Hillary on an equal par with Obama and Edwards? I have asked family in New York State and the City about her, and well .. it's not good.

The following is a letter that I sent to the Congresswoman and CBC

You promised. YOU PROMISED! You promised that if we lived right, if we got a good education, if we worked hard that we could have the American Dream, you promised. Well, I did all of those things and you didn’t support me. You lied. You lied to me and to every child like me.

When my son was young I used to tell him fairy tales – I’m sure you told them to your children too. They went something like this: “Young Jamal or little Aisha you can be anything in the world that you want to be, you could be the President of the United States if you wanted. All that you have to do is…” But did we really mean it? Of course not, we knew in our heart of hearts, that a black person could NEVER be President of these United States. I mean let’s get real, we knew in our heart of hearts that we could not even depend on our own community to support us much less others. No, our community couldn’t support us because they were too busy seeking approval from the power structure. They couldn’t support us because a step up for me, means a step down for them…or so they believed.

I grew up learning Each one Teach one. I grew up with the knowledge that I, as a part of the talented tenth, had an OBLIGATION to support my community first. That is first God, then my community, then others.

I’m sorry that you didn’t learn that or that you’ve forgotten. I’m truly sorry that you obviously have no clue as to what you have just done. You have stolen the hope or sold the hope of our youth. Because you see, the fairytale that I told my son was starting to become a reality. I saw a change in the way my son conducted himself. I’ve seen an improvement in his grades. His friends have told me they are now compelled to do better at school, to “stop skipping third period” … “Shoot, if Obama can be President so can I”, this is the mantra I’m hearing from my son’s classmates. You have sold the hopes of our community.

Don’t believe me? When woman were fighting for the right to vote earlier last century, what did we get?!? NOTHING, that’s what we got. When Martin Luther King Jr. and many unsung heroes gave their lives so that Johnson would feel compelled to pass the Civil Rights Act who benefited?!? EVERYONE, that’s who. EVERYONE! Everyone benefited from our leaders giving up their lives so that OUR COMMUNITY could have hope. So, as it was 90 years ago when white women got the right to vote, so it will be if Hillary Clinton becomes President. My life will not get any better, as it didn’t get any better under any of the Bushes or Bill. I will still have my home, my son will still attend college and life in my household will move forward. However, my brothers and sisters will still be under 3 strikes and your out, while their white counterparts get a slap on the wrist. Economics will ebb and flow depending upon innovations not the President. Look at statistics; look at the GDP over the last 70 years. There’s no relationship between what party is in office and the inflation rate or GDP.

I feel so betrayed and abandoned! Either together we stand or divided we fall – and fall we shall if we continue on this path.

Sincerely,

Rabble Rouser
