It's only fair to look at how Georgetown did in its game goals against Massachusetts yesterday after noting the Hoyas managed to succeed at only one a week earlier against Loyola.
A box score won't tell you about positive scoring margin off the ride or in transition, but you can figure just about everything else out (though despite not seeing it, I'd bet defenseman Barney Ehrmann's goal was in transition). And the Hoyas did quite a bit well in yesterday's 12-8 victory.
* Cleared better than 75 percent (15/17, 88.2 percent)
* Won the turnover battle (16 miscues to the Minutemen's 21)
* Won 60 percent of the groundballs (a whopping 47-21 edge makes for 69.1 percent)
* Won 60 percent of the faceoff (going 15-for-23 is a solid 65.2 percent clip)
That's at least four (and probably five) of the 10 goals met. It shouldn't be surprising the Hoyas were rewarded with a relatively close victory over a program that's seen better seasons but is still only two years removed from an appearance in the national title game.
