One last Tyree Evans-related nugget

Had this link passed along last night. It features all of the Richmond Times-Dispatch's all-metro basketball teams since 1969-70.

There's no reason to go that far back, at least for this blog's purposes. Instead, take a look at the 2003-04 team:

Tyree Evans, George Wythe
Bambale Osby, Benedictine
Emery Outland, Huguenot
Tyrese Rice, L.C. Bird
Reggie Williams, Pr. George

So you've got two guys who wound up at Maryland a few years after their high school careers ended, the leading scorer in Division I last season (Reggie Williams at VMI) and probably the ACC's third best player last year (Rice at Boston College). And some other guy who was probably well known by recruiting junkies earlier this decade.

We here take offense to your mention of Emery Outland as a "recruiting junkie." He is anything but a recruiting junkie. Basketball may not have worked out for Mr. Outland, but law school may work out just fine next fall, sir. This all may be "cool" water-cooler talk for you all, but don't hate on Mr. Outland unless you know his full story. Thanks for your time.

Whoa, settle down. I didn't say he was a recruiting junkie. I said that recruiting junkies probably knew who he was earlier this decade. I didn't recognize the name (I am most definitely NOT a recruiting junkie), and a quick Google search didn't yield any relatively recent info but did include some references to his high school career. Those were on recruiting service websites.

If he is indeed on his way to law school, good for him. But before yesterday, he was the one guy on that list I'd never heard of. And whether it's fair or not, I suspect I'm not in a party of one on that account, either.
