Lacrosse on the magic box

There is no shortage of TV games this weekend --- nor in the area to go take a peek at.

The marquee game locally is Johns Hopkins at Navy (noon, CBS College Sports), and the early start time, great atmosphere and curiosity about whether this will be the year the Midshipmen finally break through will get bloggers, fans and veteran lacrosse writers --- and in the case of long-time colleague Christian Swezey, all three rolled into one --- out to Annapolis.

The ESPNU schedule includes a Duke-Army meeting on Long Island at noon and a vital Ivy League showdown between Cornell and Princeton at 4 p.m.. Just up the road in Catonsville, UMBC will play host to Hartford (1 p.m., Channel 2) and try to lock up the America East regular season title.

Virginia's 1 p.m. meeting with Dartmouth in Charlottesville isn't televised, nor is Georgetown's 1 p.m. throwdown with Massachusetts in the heart of the Hoyas' campus. But both have their subplots, and I'll have more on the Hoyas a bit later or early tomorrow morning.

Maryland gets Penn (1 p.m., CN8) at Ludwig Field in the opening of an online doubleheader. Loyola-Fairfield follows at 3 p.m., with the Greyhounds seeking to earn the first spot in the 16-team NCAA tournament field with a victory.
