A leftover from the material collected for today's feature on Maryland fan favorite Jerome Burney has to do with some of the things Burney's relatives have read online about him.
Apparently, Burney has an aunt who looks up everything about the program. She started doing it as soon as Burney committed to Maryland, even though (or perhaps because) she isn't a regular at games.
"The only reason she probably can't come to the games is because she'll be talking my teammates' parents to death," Burney joked.
That line gives you a good bit of insight on the redshirt freshman. He's incredibly upbeat and well-liked with a good sense of humor, and it was obvious even in the loss at Miami there were some people in the locker room very happy for him.
But not everything is seashells and balloons for Burney, who had had some other talk passed along as well.
"I saw this one thing that said ‘Jerome is showing how much talent has. He's showing he has more things in common with Joe Smith than his number," Burney said. "I was kind of upset by that comment, but I said 'I guess I did prove some people wrong about wearing Joe Smith's number.' But I'm not trying to be him."
Nope. Rome is just being Rome. And Maryland could use a little more of that when it tips off against Wake in a few hours.
