I was talking to Cliff Tucker the other day for a feature for later on in the season. He professed to be a big Maryland fan well before he was recruited, and followed both the Terps and Georgetown closely even though he grew up in El Paso, Texas.
So it only made sense to ask about the Maryland-Duke rivalry. His reply was one that should endear him further to Terps fans (and also gave me something to build a story in tomorrow's print edition around):
"I can't stand Duke," Tucker said. "It's one of the reasons I wanted to come here so I can beat Duke, I already got North Carolina. Duke is next. I cannot stand Duke. I tell people all the time, if they gave me a scholarship and that was my only Division I scholarship, I'd go Division II or something like that. I would never, ever go there. I don't know what it is, I can't stand Duke."
He'll have plenty of company who feel the same way tomorrow --- something to the tune of 17,950.

Hmmm...I wonder if Mr. Tucker feels the same way about American U and Ohio U?? Maryland had their day in the sun against UNC, they have no chance against Duke. He'll hate the Blue Devils even more after Sunday night when they walk off his home court victorious. Do you think his idiotic quote will make it to the Duke locker room before the game??

Let's face it; Maryland hatred for Duke is born of intense envy. After basketball is over, the Dukies will earn college degrees from a great school while the Terp flunkies will drop out and go back to pushing brooms. That's the Gary Williams legacy.

it's easy to say that he would go D-II if duke offered him a scholarship - but the fact is that he wasn't anywhere near duke's recruiting radar.
is he going to go D-league if the lakers offer him an NBA contract?? doubt it.
who is this cliff tucker anyway??
hopefully, some of the batteries that the terp fans will throw at the blue devils will hit this guy in the head and knock some sense into him.
i'm sure the terps will make the final four - at the NIT, that is.

The thought of Duke giving this zero a scholarship is a joke. If Tucker could read, he clearly would have gone somewhere other than Maryland. The guy is a complete zero and will be bagging groceries before long.
