Grays vs. Grays [Mark Zuckerman]

It's Identity Crisis Day here at Nationals Park. Actually, it's Salute to the Negro Leagues Day, which means both the Nationals and Pirates are wearing Homestead Grays uniforms. The Grays, as you may know, split their games between Washington and Pittsburgh during their existence, so this is a nice tribute. And fortunately the two teams are wearing decidedly different uniforms so as not to be confused -- the Nats/Grays are wearing cream jerseys with red lettering (circa 1942), while the Pirates/Grays are wearing gray jerseys with navy blue lettering (crca 1935).

No real pregame news to report, aside from Nick Johnson getting a rare day off and Lastings Milledge batting cleanup for the first time. We're currently in the top of the fourth, the Nats/Grays leading the Pirates/Grays 5-2 behind a two-run homer from Cristian Guzman in the first and a bunch of singles and walks off Paul Maholm in the second.

The run support has been a welcome sight for Matt Chico, who desperately needs a strong start today, but Chico hasn't exactly attacked the Bucs lineup. He's allowed two runs and four hits through four innings, including Jose Bautista's third homer in less than 24 hours, but he's also walked three and hit a batter. With a big lead in hand, you'd like to see him go after hitters a little more and quit nibbling.

Oh, and in the just-completed Presidents Race, the Pittsburgh Perogies made a surprise guest appearance, chased from behind by a knife-and-fork wielding Teddy. Teddy, of course, finished last again. Abe won the race.
