Cordero on DL, Lannan recalled [Mark Zuckerman]

Somewhat surprising postgame news to report: Chad Cordero has been placed on the 15-day DL with right shoulder tendinitis.

Cordero, who as you know has yet to pitch this season, had said his shoulder felt fine after playing catch yesterday in Philadelphia and was planning to throw off a bullpen mound tomorrow in St. Louis. But the club decided he wasn't progressing quite fast enough, so they made the move now and backdated it to March 27, which means he'll be eligible to return next Friday.

"We just thought it was the best for him," manager Manny Acta said. "Even when he feels good, he feels a little weak. And we don't want to rush him back."

The move also allows the Nats to recall John Lannan from Columbus. Lannan, as had been expected, will start Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Nats lost tonight's game, 5-4. They rallied from a 5-1 deficit, scoring three times in the seventh and loading the bases with one out. But they squandered that opportunity, plus a two-on, one-out chance in the ninth against St. Louis closer Jason Isringhausen. All told, they stranded 13 men on base.

Back at it tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 p.m. Eastern. Perfect timing to watch some baseball in the afternoon and then the Final Four in the evening. Enjoy.
