Jim Bowden, Stan Kasten and Manny Acta couldn't have drawn this one up any better. The Nats' lone national TV appearance of the spring, and they're taking it to the mighty Tigers. Through six, it's now Washington 9, Detroit 0.
Lastings Milledge, Justin Maxwell and Ronnie Belliard have all homered to left. Nick Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. (Is there any doubt anymore that Nick is the starting first baseman?) Not to be totally outdone, Dmitri Young is 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
On the pitching front, Tim Redding completed five shutout innings. He allowed five hits and a walk, but he made pitches when he needed to and retired the last six batters he faced. Redding has made four starts this spring. He allowed five runs on a windy day in Kissimmee, but he hasn't allowed a single run in any of his three other starts. Pencil him in as the No. 3 starter.
Oh, and Joel Hanrahan is up to his old tricks. Retired the side in the sixth, getting Placido Polanco and Ivan Rodriguez to ground to short and then striking out Gary Sheffield.
