An abcess [Tim Lemke]

Rep. John Tierney, Massachusetts Democrat, has challenged Clemens about his claim that he never spoke to Brian McNamee about human growth hormone. Tierney read the transcript of an interview in which Clemens discussed his wife Deborah's use of HGH prior to appearing in a swimsuit photo suit.

Clemens, according to the transcript, called McNamee after his wife complained of side effects and had a heated conversation.

"How can you reconcile that?" Tierney asked.

Clemens replied by stating that he had never had a detailed conversation with McNamee about HGH prior to his wife taking it.

"But these questions are related to whether you've EVER had a conversation with Brian McNamee about human growth hormone," Tierney replied.

Clemens, flustered, turned back to his attorney, and then simply reiterated that he never spoke about HGH with McNamee prior to the incident with his wife.

There has been tough questioning of McNamee from Rep. Dan Burton, Indiana Republican. The congressman read several newspaper interviews with quotes from McNamee in which he claimed he knew nothing about steroids.

"Is that a lie?" Burton asked after reading one passage.

"Yes," McNamee replied.

"I'm not going to read any more of this," Burton said. "You're here under oath. You're hear to tell the truth. And yet we hear lie after lie after lie. … Roger Clemens is a titan in baseball. All these lies, if they're not true, destroy his reputation."

Rep. Steven Lynch read from a physicians report analyzing MRI records that focused on an abscess on Clemens' buttocks. According to several doctors who reviewed the records, the abscess was consistent with an injection of the steroid Winstrol, not B-12.

One of Clemens' attorneys asked to comment but was told by committee chairman Henry Waxman that he was not permitted to give testimony.

Clemens began to respond on his own, saying that he was not familiar with the report in question. Rep. Tom Davis then interjected, calling the line of questioning improper.

"This is literally a new definition of lynching, asking him to comment on a report he hasn't seen," Davis said. "None of these doctors physically looked at you."
