Schneider, Church to Mets for Milledge [Mark Zuckerman]

The Nationals will be holding a teleconference at 3 p.m. to announce a trade, and a club source has confirmed that Washington has traded Brian Schneider and Ryan Church to the Mets for outfielder Lastings Milledge.

There's obviously plenty to get into on this one -- Can Milledge play center field? Is Jesus Flores the Nats' new everyday catcher? Was this a good deal for Washington? -- and I'll try to get to that later when I have a free moment.

Until then ... wow, some news, huh?

Thom Loverro of the Washington Times newspaper is a moron.

In his column on Wednesday, he wrote about Sean Taylor. He didn't write about Sean to say that something like this should be the "straw that broke the camel's back". He didn't even have the humanity to say his "goodbye"...at least not the way that it should have been.

"Why should we care that Sean Taylor had a machete under his bed? Because it speaks to the culture of violence a generation of young (he should've been REAL and said "black"...)men that seem to embrace through films, music, advertising and all media that reach into their minds and hearts, hardening both."

Thom Loverro, you've probably have never dealt with reality as a lot of young black men know it. This is a society in which teenage gunmen bust into schools, with their heavy metal blasting from their headphones, and shoot the dreams out of their classmates. While [Loverro] would like to believe that this generation is as useless as they are bold and brazen, it's such a shame that a man defending himself, his fiancee, his daughter, and his home, would be the centerpiece for some rant that he handed to his (no doubt) white, older editor, who was right on board with [Thom's] assessment. He goes on to say:

"I don't know whether the machete was Taylor's weapon of choice for protection. But I know this--if you are choosing between a gun and a machete to protect yourself in bed, something is wrong...".

Really? There was no gun because the judicial system is biased and readily willing to make an example out of young, rich, black men. As many celebutantes out here that show off their snatch and titties, I guess it would be awfully hard to see them in court and try and "teach them a lesson", huh?
If you believed somebody stole from you, what would you do? Would you just let them have it? Would you call the police, knowing that they've already rode by your residence for NO reason several times before, looking for "trouble"? I know what I would do. And it has nothing to do with being a thug, gangster, etc...the 2nd Amendment is what it is. By the way...does our VIce President still have his guns?

Our media is a problem, due to the fact that most of the people that we read in our favorite papers, or on-line, allow themselves to be puppeted mouths for the views of their editors. Don't tell me you didn't know that these pricks are all slanted one way or the other...

Lastly, Loverro goes on to conclude:
"I doubt any of those hopes or dreams included a machete. But there it was, already a part of his 18-month-old daughter's life. Something is terribly wrong with that. And while everyone grieves for the tragic loss of a young man who seemed to have everything to live for, we should also stop and take a look at why that young man chose the route he did to stay alive."

And what route was that? Home invasions have become more and more commonplace (for lack of a better description). The child that I was, was not grown enough to understand why adults, or my parents for that matter, did what they did. I do know this--no REAL parent would let ANYTHING happen to their family--whether they had access to a machete OR a gun. Staying alive has been a struggle for a lot of us. It's just unfortunate that those who have never had to fight for their life continue to make it seem as if we just shoot out of the womb, toting guns and wreaking havoc on planet Earth. Isn't it?
