The long-suffering wife look makes us hurl

'Scuse us while we rant, but we're plumb sick and tired of seeing yet another power wife have to step to the podium, professionally coiffed, tight-lipped and MUTE, as her cash-cow of a philandering husband admits wrongdoing.

If we were the lovely Silda Spitzer, we'd head straight to a spa followed by a shopping session that put a blue flame under the family wallet. It's not the first time we've seen this, but it sure makes us sick to have to look at it YET AGAIN.

Candidly, we felt super-bad for Hillary back in the day. Then there was Kobe Bryant, whose gorgeous spouse sat by his side as he cried his way out of a fling with a HOTEL employee. (At least she got a giant pink diamond out of it and decided to stay, what with an NBA star's salary financing her young life.) Then, in Detroit, the wife of the hip-hop mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, stood by stoically as her husband apologized for a text-message scandal with his former lover and chief of staff, a tryst that he had denied in sworn testimony in a police whistleblower trial.

And now Mrs. Spitzer, dutifully there beside her hubbie — who has long felt just a itty bitty bit too smug for us, at least his public persona seems to suggest — and she's fabulous, pretty and probably also shell-shocked as she holds it together as the cameras flash and the pundits roar. Thought bubble: This goon doesn't deserve me, the (insert profanity here).

For once, we'd like to see one of these scorned ladies hold her own press conference — Donna Hanover, Line 1? — and lay it all on the line. "My cheatin' better half is about to lose everything as soon as I can get my divorce attorney to return a call. He may look like a superstar, but at home he's just another weanie on the climb."

Be good to see, no? C'mon. You secretly wish it were so.

In other, happier news: Good on the Barackster for telling Hillary to sit and spin on a possible veep scenario. AS IF. He was right. He's winning, she's not and what STONES she has to suggest that they are considering him as a possible running mate. If we were a voter on the fence, that alone would move us away from Mrs. Clinton. The nerve, huh?

Then again, she stood beside Bill and didn't walk either. What to say ... sometimes we sense a lingering anger there. We just do. On some level, watching this today, we could understand.

Does anyone else wonder why Eliot Spitzer didn't RESIGN?

Women love men that have other women. We need to stop the hypocrisy. Women have always been attracted to powerful men.

The problem is hypocrisy by the men pretending to be a one(1)woman men.

The former Governor of New Jersey could have a place in this list, but his offence was gay if that matters.

I highly doubt that any of the women mentioned above, 'love' the idea of their husbands having other women. I also seriously doubt that women love men that 'have other women'. I think some women, like some men, are attracted to power and some powerful men think they are above the morals they pretend to live by (probably some women too, but when we're talking sex it is so often a man). I have enormous sympathy for Mrs. Spitzer and her three daughters, and very little for Mr. Spitzer.

No--stupid women love men who have other women. I can only imagine what Mrs. Spitzer & her daughters are feeling these days.

Mr. Spitzer needs therapy; he has a acute dilemma--his clear lack of morals. By the way, has Mr. Spitzer ever considered that "Kristen" is the daughter of another father?? Good grief!

I hope Mrs. Spitzer can eventually forgive him. It will be healthy for her & her daughters in the long-run...about their marriage vows...well, that's another story.

I can't imagine the pain Mrs. Spitzer must feel, not only for herself, but for her three daughters. Her husband is an arrogant, hypocritical bum. At the press conference where she stood by her man it would have been nice if she had her divorce lawyer stand by her. Having said that, some reporting indicates that she wants the bum to not resign. That I don't get. Is she getting some on the side too?

Hillary married Bill. I know she's a lawyer but politically she would be no one if she hadn't married Bill. Being First Lady is not something that you achieve but something that is given by being married to the president or in this case the governor of New York. I think they know what they are getting into but they also thrive on the power and the money. If not the wouldn't "stand by their man" they'd kick them to the curb.

I am surprised by your failure to mention the wives of such paragons of virtue as former U.S. Representative, Robert Livingston, alleged aficionado of the kinky, and current U.S. Senator, David Vitter, who admitted to a "serious sin" after his name was associated with the "DC Madam." Or the three wives of Newt Gingrich, noted American adulterer.
