Team Clinton: Obama ignoring WV

Sen. Hillary Clinton's spokesman Howard Wolfson yesterday blasted Sen. Barack Obama for not spending much time in the Mountain State. I had a story in today's paper outlining the challenge West Virginia presents for Obama, who after picking up a bunch of superdelegates today, is now 156 away from securing the nomination under party rules.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's top aides yesterday accused Sen. Barack Obama of ignoring West Virginia, saying Democrats must win the state in the fall and using her 43-point poll lead there as evidence that her longshot bid deserves to run its course.

"What is the basis for the so-called 'presumptive nominee' not competing in a state that would be a key swing state?" Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson asked reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast, adding that a Tuesday victory could be a turning point for his boss.

A 15-point win for Mrs. Clinton, "in an atmosphere in which she is being written off and told to leave the campaign, if voters hearing that in West Virginia decided to choose to affirm her candidacy despite that, I think that would say something significant about her ability to compete and win votes in a very tough environment," he said.

Since winning North Carolina and coming within two points in Indiana, Mr. Obama has done everything to indicate he views himself as the Democratic presidential nominee — avoiding engaging with Mrs. Clinton, and disregarding his rival's calls for a debate and pivoting toward the general election.

In Portland, Ore., Mr. Obama said presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain is "dead wrong" on the economy. Mr. Obama was just a few miles from Mrs. Clinton's campaign event but kept his focus on criticizing Mr. McCain of Arizona.

Earlier today the Obama camp announced he will hold a Charleston rally Monday, followed by another in Louisville. They also posted a call to action for voters to help him not lose by huge numbers in West Virginia:

The West Virginia primary has been an uphill battle, but we've built a broad based, grassroots operation there, backed by a dozen field offices and over 60 staffers on the ground. From the beginning, we've made a commitment to compete in every state for every vote, and even as we near the end of this long primary campaign we haven't let up. Over the next four days, we're asking grassroots phonebankers across the country to make calls to voters in West Virginia to help Get Out The Vote for Barack.

I wish that Barack would stop talking about Larry Sinclair! YOu already have my vote!

Brilliant idea the Clinton folks have come up with now:

Let us, Sen. Clinton's campaign staff, decide where and when Sen. Obama should be present. Maybe next they will offer to write his stump speeches.
Perhaps if he does everything their way, he will enjoy the same measure of success Sen. Clinton has wona fairly close second place in a two-person race.

It might all be called gross arrogance if it weren't so plain silly.

people supporting Hillary will never forget this shameful interference in the democratic process! so called democratic organizations and media engaging in unlawful in-kind donations to the obama campaign to short-circuit our democracy in America!

Media insisting that Hillary should quit at this point are insulting millions of Americans - they are interfering with the election process in the most direct way, shorting the democracy in America.
SHAME!
SHAME!
SHAME!

Demand congressional investigations into the MASSIVE fraud perpetrated by the media on the American people. Millions have voted for Hillary and millions more will vote.
It is as cler as it can be the neither obama nor Hillary can get the votes to win now! therefore, media is interfering in the process to try and force Hillary out!!

The West Virginia Democratic Primary of 2008 could be dubbed the Harvest of Sour Grapes.

He leads by 156-164 total delegates (depending on the site) MI would have to be a 50/50 split to be fair, because Obama was not even on the ballot. FL has proposed 69 delegates for Clinton and 59 for Obama...but even if you give her 100% of West Virginia, Kentucky, Montana and South dakota....she will still be behind by 3 delgates (not including the new FL proposal) Thats why people are saying for Clinton to throw in the towel....

So lets try another Scenario...Seating FL' delegates regardless of disqualification.....FL would give her 110 and obama 73...she wins WV and Kentucky by 70%, Obama wins Oregon and Montana by 60%, Puerto Rico is 50/50 and for fun she wins South Dakota by 60%.....usin CNN's numbers Obama would be ahead by only 32 delegates (1,958 to 1,926), but with no more contests....I think FL should count, but only as a revote or the 69-59 split, she will lose a lot of respect if she tries to seat a disqualified state as it currently is......but in either case, Obama would still have more delegates and the remaining superdelegates would push him over the top....

With Barack Obama routinely getting 90% of the black vote, but only about 35% of the white vote his top campaign aides, Axelord and Plouffe, are suggesting WHITE RACISM IS A PROBLEM.
I'm sure there is some of that," David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist, told The New York Times about the impact of race after Obama lost Pennsylvania by 10 points. Axelrod added: "Here's a guy named Barack Obama, an African-American guy, relatively new. That's a lot of change."
David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manager, sees WHITE RACISM as a problem in the general election. "The vast, vast majority of voters who would not vote for Barack Obama in November based on race are probably firmly in John McCain's camp already," he told the National Journal.

She (hillary) pointing her accusing wiggling finger and degrading anothers efforts. So Whats New? Same ole washington Tactics. HA HA HA HA

Now let me ask a question. Are these people the same people who planned Clintons campaign and expense agenda. Now they have all this advice are they gonna bill Obama for the advice? When they've got there game together - oh never mind that will never happen so babbling on accusatorially(sp) is what they do.

obama is the best thing that ever happen for republicans, maccain is going to take him apart in public. this guy is a empty suit, all talk.

The ability of a good education to open one's mind and sweep away ignorance and prejudice is being demonstrated in West Virginia.

The people there don't fare well in that regard (education) and are obviously being held hostage by their ignorance and unfounded fears of an AA man.

West Virginians will remember Obama in November. I will be voting for Hillary in the primary, and unfortunately McCain if she's not the nominee. When will the democrats learn!?

@rachelle: Barack is where he is today because of broad-based support among whites, black, Latinos, Asians and everyone else. To say that 90% of blacks will vote for Barack because he is black is racist. The black community is more diverse (and more intelligent) than that.

The general election is going to be simple: Do you want to continue the failed policies of the Republicans and the stranglehold of the well-connected rich people and companies with their armies of lobbyists bearing PAC money? Keep in mind that Barack is talking about changing the way Democrats do business as well. Do you want the American death toll in Iraq to reach 6,000 or do you want those people alive so they can serve their country in other ways?

I and others will write Hillary in -- I agree that the media has been in love with Barack and is trying to force Hillary out.

Not only will this be remembered by many in November, our viewing choices will also be impacted.

I looked at the map and saw which states played pivotal role in losing efforts by both John Kerry and Al Gore. When you see the map it is obvious the critical states for Democrats are the states that Obama did really bad. I am absolutely sure we will have another sorry effort in 2008. The black votes in the general election is insignificant as opposed to primaries. Also helping Obama is this convoluted delegate calculation which favors black candidate. I have no doubt that end of our primary, Clinton will have more popular votes than Obama. If Democrats lose the president election in this environment, you could thank Pelosi, a die hard socialist, Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, young naive kids and blacks. It is time to create a new party with Hillary so that we can go back to our days as world leader. I also think McCain is not the answer to our problems, just extension of our failed policies.

What is Obama's fault apart from the fact that he is Black? I can understand Clinton is great and everything g, but if it were lets say Edwards instead of Obama, I wonder what it would have been like. Does that mean that no Black man should be allowed to run ever?

Taka your chance to elect a woman in the US history. Vote for Hilary. God bless her

Obama knows he can't relate to people of W.Va.,
and he's not even trying. Clinton knew she had a very slim chance in N.Carolina, but that didn't stop her from trying. I think this tells a lot about the candidates.

West Virginians will remember Obama in November. I will be voting for Hillary in the primary, and unfortunately McCain if she's not the nominee. When will the democrats learn!?

Dave, just switch parties. Democrats are going to vote Democratic whoever gets the nomination. Please, comments like this are laughable. I will bet you wont vote for 3rd Bush term.

if obama picks hillary as his running mate i'll vote for nader -- i vote in nh

If you're a true democrat or independent or republican who wants this country to move forward, you won't vote for McCain because Obama's policies are 95% SIMILAR to Clinton's, and McCain's are 95% DIFFERENT than Clinton's. Can you name one major country's leader in the world that is older than McCain? You think Bush is a bad president? McCain will be worse. Mark my word. You think McCain is maverick? Think again. His policies is actually 95% SIMILAR to Bush's. And worse yet he is a flip-flopper. The mandatory retirement age for most big companies' CEO is 65.

May 6: Big vote for Obama in North Carolina and Indiana.

May 7: News media starts round of stories saying Obama is the winner.

Hillary supporters: New round of media stories is illegal free advertising that caused the big vote for Obama on the 6th.

Jeez! The voters must be clairvoyant!

"Change" "Yes We Can"

Ok, I've said everything Obama has said, can I be President now?

All through this campaign season, I have continually heard Hillary supporters argue the victim complex.

"The media loves Obama." Hmmm... well, this time last year, Hillary was refusing to speak with reporters; She didn't have to with an Inevitable Candidacy.

The media continues to cycle through Rev Wright speeches about Obama - ignoring the fact, that Obama isn't Rev Wright and that Hillary, herself and not Bill or some other surrogate, has been personally involved in so many controversies, that it's mind-boggling.

That argument is so old. I cannot even believe people still say it with a straight face.

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

Obamas so-called religion -- "black liberation theology."

Please help me understand this: In almost every state, 75 to 90% of blacks are voting for Obama because he is black (and not voting for others because they are white). They are voting along based on race. Is this not racist? Why are we ignoring this racist behavior on the part of blacks?

At the same time, media is making a big deal about working class white male not voting for Obama because he is black. Why this double standard?

We will see how many west virginians label their own state as xenophopic

we will witness the fundamental core of the mentality of west viriginians

we will see the long term consequences on tourism visiting this state after they self-label as "racist" as they allowed Mrs. Clinton esploit their emotions.

We will witness how many west virginians comit political suicide

I saw her today and I can not rememer where she was but anyway she was saying she was the better qualified candidate to be the Democratic nomitee and she was saying all the states she has won but she forgot to mentioned the states she lost in. So Hillary you are one be liar in anything you say. You do nothing more along with your cheating husband but do attack Obama because you know along with millions and millions that Obama is the better candidate and he will win over you. You as well as people talk about the Jerimiah Wright incident. But to me and millions of others think that is nothing to compare you husband while in office of having an affair with Monica. How degrading to our President and our country. So Hillary get out because you will no way in hell win the democratic nomintee. Give it up and shut up

" will be voting for Hillary in the primary, and unfortunately McCain if she's not the nominee. "

So obviously you've not learned anything at all from the last 7 years of the Bush presidency. Well... ya know slow people (undeducated whites with no college education) are generally stupid and this just proves it.

If you think the past seven years have been great... then fine vote for McCain and expect more of the same.

I support Barack... I'm white male 39 and college educated. I see past all this crap... and even if it was Hillary who got the nomination I would still vote democrat. However... it is obvious Barack has won fair and square... so I will vote for him.

JIll has confirmed an apothegm I've often heard from my father... "Far more ignorance is found about West Virginia than within West Virginia." When Clinton led in Ohio I don't remember that state being labeled as "held hostage by their ignorance and unfounded fears...."

As an educated registered WV voter who is working out of state, I felt a responsibility to cast my vote by absentee ballot as soon as I could in support of Sen. Obama. I believe he is the candidate who will best serve my state and country. Ethnicity doesn't affect electability in my ratings.

Patrick: I don't think Obama fans get it. There are millions of us who do not condone racism of any kind. Therefore, Obama is simply not an option.

This troublesome Conundrum perpetuates itself in the news, we LITERALLY have news reports that have headlines like "How can Obama get the reverend Wright Scandal out've the media Spotlight" (Well duh spot reporting about it!) & Magazines that already presume him as the nominee while addressing the problem that the media is distorting the proccess, its the most ancient of confusing problems, its the snake eating its own tail and loving it. The Solution to our Conundrum is to Vote however you feel inside, and not base your opinions on news reports that contradict and twist themselves apart infront of your very eyes. PEACE!

Hillary supportes wil not vote for Obama. He has gotten a free pass from the media and they bashed Hillary and Bill something terrible. The so called super delegates have made this a lot worse, they should have let the states play out. Obamas wife has made such awful comments about our country and got away with it. Leave it up to the democrats to bash Hillary. Obama said Florida was a beauty contest, but he will need them votes come November. Check out the Chicago Tribune about Rezkos trial and Obamas connection to his friends.

Hey, Average Joe. The Democratic Process isn't about what "millions more Americans" want. It's about what the majority wants. Ever fought for a losing side and just been too piss stubborn to throw in the white towel? You see it happen in boxing and other martial contests. That's why there's a corner man. Hilary's own corner is calling for the plug to be pulled.

It would be a mockery of gigantic proportions IF Hillary does not get the nomination!

Obama has waged a hypocritical campaign: 1) He accused Hillary of playing the "race" card, when it was his campaign who spun her speech about MLK, as well as Bill's comments. 2) He had 3 different responses to the Rev. Wright fiasco! First he said he "never heard Wright's controversial sermons"... then in his speech he said: "have I heard him make controversial statements? YES"... and finally he DENOUNCED Wright 2 weeks ago, for accusing him of political pandering! He said "he was offended". SO he wasn't offended enough by the sermons and statements to denounce him before... BUT he was OFFENDED enough to denounce him when accused of "political pandering"? If this is not HYPOCRTICAL, I don't know what is!

The press and media have been so pro-Obama, it makes one wonder whatever happened to fair reporting? The FCC should fine MSNBC especially!

The democratic party has been shameless in their bias towards Obama as well. They don't deserve her as a candidate! And offering Hillary the vp position is NOT AN OPTION! We would never support an Obama ticket! Obama needs Hillary's demographic voters to win in November, and we can guarantee you, it's never going to happen.

Hillary has a better command of the issues, and has better solutions... Obama basically "xeroxed" her solutions with a few changes scattered here and there.

CLEARLY, HILLARY IS THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE!

JFK won West Virginia the old fashioned way. He had the Mafia buy it. Maybe Clinton should try that.

I am shocked at the 'press' behavior in this election. I'm very dissapointed in them. I thought the 'press' were supposed to report not infuence the news especially on such an important national event. What are their editors doing sleeping on the job?!

Did you ever notice when they speak about the candidates they mention Obama first then Hillary. It's a small point but another instance of prejudice. Speaking about predudice there is a lot of misogny (and same gender mosogny) in this country. Most of those suggesting that Hillary get out of the race are men.

I think its a shame that the majority of women are not voting for Hillary. The first time in history for over 200 years we have a woman who is electable and this is a difficult decision?

Historically women were considered an apendage of men, could not own property, could not vote. If they worked out side of the home they were shamed. A women who wanted a job were considered taking away mens' work. Employers used to ask if you were planning to have children then they had to decide if you were lying when answering. What about your daughters and grandaughters? How many say when they are a child, "when I grow up I want to be president." Too bad that women studies are not mandatory. I believe a great opportunity may be missed in this election.

To be fair, I can completely understand a woman supporting someone of the same race. This is a historic event for African Americans also. They are two remarkable candididates and this election will probably change America's view of presidential candidates for any future elections. No more will it seem that only a white man can be president.

If Obama wins (and no he hasn't, yet) I will vote for him. He is a fascinating candidate.

By the way, the republicans will never win the 'white house' this election. All the electoral fervor is not coming from the republican voters but the democrat party. MCain is a good man but he is not going to be elected. His policies are too much like Bush's and we all know how Americans feel about him.

Best regards,

Arlene

If Hillary does not win the nomination I think she should resign from the Democratinc party and either continue running as an Independent or form her own party. Many would support her because of both who she is and dissatisfaction with the two party system. Party leaders have dishonored the party by how they have treated her and she therefor owes them no loyalty. Pelosy and the others are a disgrace to the democratic name. The nominee is SUPPOSED to be selected at the convention and this is would hardly be the first time things changed at convention time.

If Obamma gets the nomination and Hillary drops out we WILL have another 4 years of the Republican regime with business as usual. Obama simply can not win the key states. If he thinks Hillary and the Rev Wright scandal has been hard on him wait until he feels the full brunt of the Republican Propaganda Machine on him. They will dig up every scrap of dirt they can on him and bury him alive with it. Hillary has already experienced this and is still going strong.

Please help me understand this: In almost every state, 75 to 90% of blacks are voting for Obama because he is black (and not voting for others because they are white). They are voting along based on race. Is this not racist? Why are we ignoring this racist behavior on the part of blacks?

DON - One Major Problem with you Double Standard Complaint - YOU Say that 75% - 90% of Blacks vote for Obama be cause he is Black and won't votr for the other candidates because they are White - You have no data to back that up! No where does it say that 90% of Black voters vote for Obama ONLY because he is BLACK...

It is faulty logic and quite honestly the way that racists try to frame the logic to employ a defense for their own racism. That is Sad But True! The very same way that the Rev Wright Issue has given white's the "Permission Slip" to NOT Vote for Obama because he is black - but use Rev Wright as Permission - It sadens me that we can't move beyond the color of ones skin - SAD!

I am confused with some of the comments. Some people are saying that if Mrs. Clinton will not be a nominee then they will vote for McCain in general election.

Wow. People are ready to switch from Democrat to Republican if Mr Obama will be the nominee.

If one is a supporter of one party than why not stick to same party. (There is a very different reason that People have moved from Republican party to Democrat. This is because they liked the thoughts and plans of the democrat.)

This clearly proves that there is a discrimination happening. Are we leaving in 21st century? Are we a true Americans?

If you really want a people's President then compare their thoughts, their ideas, their proposals, their views and do not compare the color, religion, age, status or experience.
(Even having a huge experience people makes mistake that no ordinary person can think of. So having experience / no experience may not matter much).

God bless America and the World.

ThomJ, I couldn't agree more. I also support Sen. Obama and think he may do better in WV than the media is predicting. He's a great friend of the middle class, as his entire upbringing was middle class or even lower-middle class. It's striking how virtually the entire economic team from President Clinton signed on very early with Obama, rather than with Sen. Clinton. Obama is exactly the president West Virginia needs.

Don,

Blacks voting for Barack because he's black is not the same as whites not voting for Barack because he's black. Don't mince words or logic, please. If my former classmate ran for office (and, hopefully, if I agreed with his politics), I would be likely to be a staunch supporter because my classmate is a cohort. It is the nature of humans to lean toward the familiar. Blacks are voting for Barack because he has a familiar face, but blacks are voting for Barack because he is a phenominal representation of what many Americans (especially including a great number of non-blacks) have looked for.

The 'fearce urgency' of politics has successfully painted Obama as The Black Candidate (Bill miscalculated), but fortunately, intelligent and informed folk from all walks of life have looked beyond just his skin color. His success is not simply the result of a people who represent only 13% of the U.S. population (African Americans); his success comes primarily from the ranks of the 87%--make no mistake about that.

He WILL be president. Then, those who wanted to put him into their own convenient social, ethnic, or racial categories will, hopefully, begin to think (and see) outside the box.

Hillary is going to make a tax holiday for gas this summer when she, in fact, has no power whatsoever to do so. It is a gimmick and a lie.

What is next... Hillary is going to replace all the water fountains with koolaid fountains!!! Yea, they ried that gimmick in Junior High too.

I'm a Latin American (not in the US) and still enjoying my so called freedom. What is our opinion, if any, on the on coming presidential election in the "peaceful" North American country up there?: we don't worry about who the new president will be, but rather how much he knows about his backyard countries down south. Maybe he will know about some of us, but we really doubt he'll have the slightest idea of how me manage to still hang around in order to keep you people healthy and wealthy.
God bless America!

To ThomJ and all the other hardworking people of WV
I am a New Yorker. I apologize for the remarks of our junior senator. I admit to you that I voted for her twice. I will not make that mistake again and will join with others to seek to have her leave office as soon as possible.
Having live in other states I know that the racism that upper class people like the Clintons attribute to the good people of the South and Midwest exists only in their own narrow minds.
I apologize to you. New York owes the rest of the country better.

I see it every day and yet it still amazes me how ignorant and self focused the average American shows themselves to be. You people who say you wont vote for Obama if Hillary isnt on the ticket are the most myopic, self absorbed and truly asinine people God ever allowed to roam this earth. Ive been a registered republican for 26 years and even I can see the disaster the Bush administration has suffered upon the American people. If you want four more years of imperialistic wars, economic ruin, social injustice and global ostracism, then go ahead vote for McCain! As a white man who voted for Bush, I can say, I blew it royally!! I was just gullible enough to believe the lies and rhetoric the Bush administration was selling concerning Iraq, Bin Laden and this war on terror. I wish I had it to do all over again, but I dont. All I can do now is try to make it right. Come this November I will cast my hope, my support and my vote for Senator Obama!

Don,

There is no double standard here. Blacks may be supporting Obama because he is black but that is not racism. They want to see a black president. Do you really think that women are sexist because they are supporting Clinton? After 230 years of white male Presidents, I think it is time for a change. As a white Male I am supporting Obama but would be happy to support Clinton were she to win the nomination. Both candidates are very qualified. Blacks are supporting Obama because he would make a great President, and he happens to be black. If blacks vote they way you suggest, why did Sharpton barely register four years ago?

Blacks vote for Obama because they want to see a qualified black man elected President. What is wrong with that? They are not voting against Clinton because she is white. The whites refered to in those stories are voting against Obama (not so much for Clinton) because he is black. That is racism. Why can't you see that?

No one was complaining when Hillary ignored all the other "smaller states" earlier in the contest. She did even try in any other the other states on Super Tuesday or any of the Caucus states. Shut up Hillary... You lost because you thought you had it in the bag from jump street.

"Obama knows he can't relate to people of W.Va.,
and he's not even trying. Clinton knew she had a very slim chance in N.Carolina, but that didn't stop her from trying. I think this tells a lot about the candidates."
.
.

That he's a winner, and she's a loser? Clinton campaign now regrets putting so much of their assets into a state that they couldn't win.
.
.

AMERICANS

LETS UNITE

WE NEED FULL DISCLOSURE OF MONEY SPEND IN THE THREE CAMPAIGNS!

WE DESERVE TO KNOW

Oh politics. First of all they want him campaign more there so they can say "Obama outspent us by 3 to 1 in West Virginia and we still won by a huge margin. Why can't he wrap up the nomination." It's all about politics. I like what another person said earlier about Barack taking advice from Hillary advisor. They basically ran her campaign into the ground. Why would anybody listen to them. It's like she was up 40 points in the first quarter, but still managed to lose the game. Secondly, black people are voting for Barack because they filled betrayed by the Clintons. First it was Bill's comment about Jesse Jackson which he is still in denial about. Then there were Ferraro's comments that Hillary didn't denounce. Now Hillary herself is saying things like "hard-working white Americans". I'm pretty sure white Americans aren't the only Americans that are working hard. Like she would know anything about working in the coal mines.

KevinS, actually there is evidence as a poll was conducted and something like 14-15% of white folks said they were choosing Clinton because of race... Black people who said the same thing (But about Obama) was 3X that amount. But with the media you get crickets.

John,

If you have a Law Degree from Harvard and where the first editor of the Harvard Law Review of your race and you had an original thought at all then yes you could run for President. Unfortunatly for you the first white person to be Harvard Law Review editor was in 18th century and you have never seen Harvard let alone recieved a degree from there but as long as you are 35 run away.

To all those Clinton voters who plan on voting for Granpa John:
If you are better off now then you were 8 years ago vote for John McCain if not you should vote for Obama. That is the coice we have to make you clintonites should remember if you elect John McCain your freedom will be taken from you just as bush has taken it from you. McCain is GWB just older and less in tune with reality which is scary.

It is crystal clear that the Republicans are just itching to get their hands on Obama. They're not going to release any explosives prior to the nomination, but would rather the Democratic party implode from within first. However, once the winner is called, it's fair game and as mentioned above; beware of the Republican Propaganda War Machine. They have proven it time and time again; they are ruthless and effective. Obama is full of hot air and has absolutely NOTHING to back up his claims with. I too can go out and give a good speech, bring about some tears and wow the general public. If you put me in office for that, I too would be scared. His voting record is weak, his debates shaky and when asked to actually elaborate in depth on any issues, he is unable or reverts back to ... "Yes We Can". When is the American Public going to learn?? We have let one brilliant candidate already fall to the wayside (Gore) just because he wasn't funny enough, and now we're about to let another one do the same (Hilary). How sad ...

Could it be possible that Hillary Clinton is raising the "blue collar" working man theme to actually see how difficult it will be for Obama to win them over...not to as a divisive measure, but as a ploy to get the issue on the table before the Republican "attack machine" can?

It may be in the best interest of the democrats to air this issue before the general election campaign.

Just a thought.

Man, are all Hillary supporters so vindictive, or is it just the same nasty ones commenting over and over?

I am so sick and tired of people accusing black people for voting for a black candidate that is qualified to be President. No one complained when white people vote white. Black America has always voted for white men or women to help win the Democratic Party, and know one complained that all white people was voting white and all the black people was voting white as well. When Obama started his campaign he did not go to the south side of Los Angeles or Watts or the south side of Chicago; he annoouced his candidacy in Springfield Il., where a bunch of white people came out in the cold supporting him. Now, White America can vote for Barack but black America can't. We have had other black candidates and I didn't see a lot of white people mobilizing as they are with Barack to vote for an African American. If Condolezza Rice was running for President, I wouldn't vote for her; she does not fit the profile or is main stream with black America. What about Allen Keyes ? he was black and he did not get much of the black vote and others, etc.
It's white Anerica , Iowa and other white states who have said "Yes WE Can", and Black America is saying yes we can as well. If it's OK for White America to vote for Obama , then it should be OK for Black America to vote for him to. Bill Clinton received an over whelming support from Black America and no one called it racism, only when a black vote for another black all of a sudden it's racism. And what about the die hard red necks, and hard working blue collar workers who will not vote BLACK even if it goes against his or her best interest. What about them ? Hopefully, the black vote will make up the difference. I like a candidate that says : there is no red state or blue state, it's the United States. If Barack was white and says the same words, Hillary wouldn't even be in the race, she would of been out a long time ago. Obama biggest hurdle: (He's Black )PERIOD and Obama needs white America to push him over if he'e to be our next President of the U.S. of America and we (Blacks) want to help you whites push him over the TOP. What a TEAM. We need one another if we want real change....

As far as Hillary's assertion that she can win "hard working Americans, white Americans," and Obama can't, considering their positions on the issues are almost identical, why wouldn't they support Obama? Do they think health care is going to be more universal with McCain? Do they think McCain is going to end the war in Iraq sooner? Not too long ago, Hillary was try to shore up her own support by suggesting she would put Obama on her ticket. Hillary's supporters have gone from "he's not ready" to "he's a terrible person." There is not much in the way of logic here.

The Democrats are a bunch of idiots, thinking OBama will win the White house this fall. They have been around long enough to know this will not happen with Obama the nominee, even Hillary may not pull thru' with McCain, but stand a better chance neverthless. Obama can say all he wants but still not elected, why? Its no cakewalk this time, its serious and sacred thing to put down the vote, the bar is higher, no amount of talk however inspiring is going to do the trick. Its down to hard fundamentals n basics, experience, past acheivements n records, resume, patriotism and race, all will matter most. Obama just dont qualify in any category.

As a Black American (never been to Africa and I'm probably 6-7 generations removed) it shames me to see so many closet racist. I have never in my short 28 years on this planet, ever seen so many hidden and disguised racial comments against one man. This idiotic comment and suggestion that 90% of "blacks" (we are Americans just like you) are voting for Senator Obama because he is BI-RACIAL ( he is both black and white or did you racist idiots forget that) is rediculous. If Sen. Edwards had been going against Clinton I would be voting for him, not because he is white but because of his policies which i greatly respect as I do Sen. Obama's. The simple fact of the matter is that you certain "Americans" (you don't deserve to call yourselves that) have been looking for an excuse not to vote for the man from the beggining. As it is you probably never thought he had a chance because he was Bi-racial. This is why the rest of the world hates us, our complete ignorance and disregard for basic human decency.

If in any case McCain becomes the President then remember recession will last for more years and you all may be blaming urself for this.

He is clearly saying that he will follow Bush's policies.

Now, whether you are White or you are Black, you decide, do you want the same government and same policies for at least next 4 years or do you want change and try something else.

Change can only come if you decide to vote against current Republican nominee.

So before commenting anything, think 1000 times. This is just not your fate but it the fate of America or may be the whole world.

is W.VA another state with Un-Educated people or is it a state full of Illeterates ......Clinton has Lied all the way .........guys wake up and see Hillary is the wrong choice.Period.

Whenever candidate interviews for a job, company tends to look for a mix of the following - experience, brilliant ideas, and communication. I feel Obama lacks first two. It is clear that Clinton has more experience and knowledge. As for ideas, they both seem to have more or less the same ideas. In fact, I would argue that Clinton has better ideas/guts. The fact that she tried to introduce Universal health-care way back is a clear testimony to it. Obama does seem to be a great orator. I think this is a great skill to have. If he is as good a president, he would do fine.

If I have to use Stock market terminology, personally I would BUY stock on "Clinton" and PUT option on Obama.

Enjoy!!!

Fred:"..If it's OK for White America to vote for Obama , then it should be OK for Black America to vote for him....."

As a white male in his sixtiese, I say, "Thanks, Fred". You got it right in one.

My family and it's extended members are pushing as hard as we can to help get Obama elected. I've talked with many of his supporters and it's not because of ethnicity that they are voting for him. It's because they want the best chance for this country and the world to heal. We are united in a common cause and I hope the rest of America sees that it's a team made up of Americans. The rest of the media labels and parsing be damned!

Yes WE Can. Obama 08

Funny how all the Hilary supporters are basically muttering the same thing: Hilary should be the democratic nominee because it was her birthright. Heh why didn't she or they make a ruckus about MI and FL when Barack wasn't the leading man. It's only when he's ahead that they call foul play.

Fred very well said...If we could get that posted in some Opinion pages in these newspapers it would impact some people..very well said.

This is why our country can't progress like the major 1st world European countries...we are too obsessed with the external appearance of our fellow Americans and HUMAN BEINGS.

This is why RACE is still such an issue, too many Americans of all colors and creeds only care about the superficial. If your really looking for change then do your part to bring it about and stop saying we want The Clintons back. Hilary Clinton IS NOT her husband, she is simply riding his coat tails. What is her Senate record? Naming post offices after people and congratulating lacrosse teams on championships? If she can't run or manage her own campaign and keep from growing broke every 2-3 months, how will she manage a country?

Wake up people and stop being ignorant over race

Hillary the best leader America could have.Don't think for one minute she's out of the race.God bless

People of WVA:
After reading these comments I can not believe the lies coming from HRC supporters.

1. Obama did not bringup the race card - Bill & HRC did

2. In TX it was Hispanics (pandering), In SC it was "Dream Ticket" (pandering), In IN it was gass-tax holiday (pandering)- HRC & McCain did

3. Obama did not call you hard-working "white people who have not completed college" (so you have no common sense?)- HRC & AP News did

ALL BLUE COLLAR WORKERS ARE NOT WHITE.

4. Obama did not call his coalition "eggheads and african americans" - Paul Begala her surrgoate did

5. Obama did not go to BIG money to fund his campaign, he took a chance on WE THE PEOPLE - HRC DID AND ONLY INVOLVED YOU WHEN SHE GOT INTO DEBT

NOT ALL BLACKS ARE SUPPORTING OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS BLACK - IOWA, VERMONT, WISCONSIN, UTAH, CT, DELAWARE ARE NOT PROMIDENTLY BLACK - THINK!!!!!

WVA VOTERS DO RESEARCH-GET THE FACTS

HAVE RESPECT FOR YOURSELVES.

YOU ARE MORE THAN A LABEL.

Her "Hard-working Americans, White Americans...not completed college" is disturbing on multiple fronts.

First, she seems to be saying that the only hard-working Americans are uneducated "White Americans"; that those who are educated and/or non-white are just lazy!

What she said is untrue, but that's part of the course for her. But what she said is also downright racist and offensive.

Second, by saying her most of supporters have not completed college, she actually implies that most of her supporters are too ignorant to know any better; that those who are smart enough to know better support Obama!

What she said is untrue, but that's part of the course for her. But what she said is also downright condescending - to her own supporters!

She made these comments herself, and the media seems to have let it go...they fried Obama for what someone not connected with his campaign said.

By her own account, then, maybe Obama is ahead in the race because more people are indeed smart enough to know better. More people than she thinks are hard-working as well.

Pardon my ignorance

Is Kerry black? Kerry is supposed to have got 88% of the black votes.

I'm certain the percentage was similar for Bill Clinton too.

I'm not sure why it is an issue if Barack gets the majority of black vote.

And then Barack is as much white as he is black.

"...I will write Hillary in..." Are these people crazy???? Why don't you so-called Democrats just hand the vote over to McCain. Hillary herself has said that she will work as hard for Obama should he win the candidacy as she would if she were the candidate. Wake up! A write-in vote is a useless, wasted, ridiculously irresponsible action!

People in America are so forgiving or forgetful it seems especially West Virginians. For months now Hillary has been slapping the backs of blue collar workers and saying we understand you. Or is it stabbing the backs of blue collar workers. I say the Clintons will do anything to get back in power. One example the Marc Rich, Clintons, Dick Cheney go-around. What a shame. And please don't get me started on Hillary's true stand regarding NAFTA...Bloomberg: Clinton "Praised" NAFTA, Friends Said She Was "A Free-Trader at Heart."

It's not widely known, at least outside of West Virginia and certain labor circles, that Rich played a central role in one of the highest profile union-busting efforts the United States has seen in recent decades. In the early 1990s, Marc Rich was the power-behind-the-scenes at the Ravenswood Aluminum Corporation facility in Ravenswood, West Virginia, site of one of the most embittered U.S. labor-management disputes of recent decades.

Jim Pinkerton writes in Newsday:_
... Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York flailed at Libby, declaring the alleged actions of Vice President Dick Cheney's now-former chief of staff to be "reprehensible." Clinton must be careful, however, because Libby's past legal career is closely intertwined with her husband's presidency. During the 1980s and 1990s, Libby was a lawyer for Marc Rich. And if you don't remember Marc Rich, you will be reminded of him soon enough. He's the American financier who skipped out of the United States in 1983, one step ahead of a $48-million tax bill and a 51-count indictment for various skullduggeries, including trading with Iran amidst the American hostage crisis. As Rich's lawyer over the next two decades, Libby collected, by his own estimate, some $2 million in fees. Wait, there's more. In January 2001, outgoing President Bill Clinton gave Rich a pardon. Interestingly, Rich's ex-wife, Denise, donated more than a million dollars to Democratic causes around then, including $70,000 to Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign and $450,000 to the Clinton Foundation. Libby denied having anything to do with the pardon effort, but admitted he had called Rich on January 22, 2001 - which is to say, after he started working for Cheney - to congratulate him on his getting off. And Libby's powerful presence inside the White House - his title was assistant to George W. Bush as well chief of staff to Cheney - might help explain why the incoming Bush administration failed to pursue obvious threads of corruption trailing out of President Clinton's pardon of Rich and other dubious figures.

This is only racialized because Obama is part black and nothing else. Obama has confronted this racism from day one and from that challenge alone, he has already won! Now I simply cannot understand why Hillary won't do herself and all of you a favor and bow out with her head held high. Instead she will be remembered in a different light. I learned nothing from her.

MY FELLOW "BITTER", STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-)

If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of "BITTER"!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salarys than they had ever been before or since.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

Best regards

jacksmith... Working Class :-)

p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you don't know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering...

You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)

Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries dont die from. And I could go on, and on...

OBAMA AIDE: "WORKING-CLASS VOTERS NOT KEY FOR DEMOCRATS" :o

p.s. I have been under heavy attacks for some time now. But it wont stop me. :-)

Hillary is a liar, and not even a good one.

Who in their right mind would select someone who was caught blatantly lying during the campaign to run this country?

I'm old enough to remember 16 years ago when she lied to us about health care to help get her husband elected.

I'm also old enough to remember that her husband bombed the heck out of Iraq, I had friends that had to go fight.

I also realize that Bill Clinton invented this sub-prime mortgage garbage that has dragged this economy into the gutter.

And that he dropped the 911 tragedy into George Bush's lap by ignoring Bin Laden.

Hillary's supporters are behind her simply because she is a woman, and will vote for her regardless of lies.. regardless of the fact that she wi
