Poll: Nearly one-third of Dems would back Clinton indy bid

Let the rumors begin.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll shows that 29 percent of Democrats would support Sen. Hillary Clinton running as an independent in the fall:

Thirty-eight percent (38%) of Democratic voters nationwide now believe that Hillary Clinton should drop out of the race for the White House. That's up slightly from 34% in late April, 32% earlier in April and 22% in late March.

However, if Clinton does not win the Democratic Party nomination, 29% of Democrats say she should run an Independent campaign for the White House. Sixty-one percent (61%) of Democrats disagree. Clinton supporters are evenly divided on the question.

Hilary should win no matter how, no matter what!

Run Girl Run!

Save us from a failed Democratic White House bid from that fraud of a candidate Obama.

Democrats need to win the White House in November, we can only do it with you Senator HRC!

Run Girl Run!

Thus, we would have a McBush-Clinton coalition To keep the people's favorite out of the whitehouse.

UH are you democrats stupid?
a vote for an independent hillary is a vote for mccain

Obama won fairly...its time to unite the party.
do you want four more years of bush?

Wow, that is a novel idea. Talk about crashing and burning your legacy. Forever for Democrat's, the Clinton's name would be mud if she ran as third party. They would live in infamy. Teddy Roosevelt did this and Republicans disowned him and have never forgiven him.

I bet she'd win, too. - She has the fundraising capability, & in the internet world a party may not be as necessary as it used to be (see Lieberman / Lamont).

Would HRC even have time to collect signatures to get on the 50 state ballots?
Lieberman was a sore losers and ran as a independent-republican, and it's worked out so well, why not let HRC do it too, she just shouldn't expected to be back in the Party come December.

These polls are just stupid talking!

Mrs. Clinton doesn't care what 38% of people in a poll say. 17 million people have voted for her.

IF she gets out, it will be on her terms and for her reasons, but I don't see any reason at all why she shouldn't fight all the way to the last vote at the convention. She can do credentials fights to ensure that ALL Florida and Michigan delegates are seated (regardless of how they are apportioned among the candidates). She could do platform fights to ensure that her issues are properly included.

This is a battle for the presidency of the United States -- not a Little League game with a 10-run mercy rule!

One thing she would never do is run as an independent. Only a crackpot with some wierd agenda would do that.

Clinton SHOULD NOT drop out of the race! Obama is not qualified to be Prez, Hillary is qualified so why should she drop out?
If Obama wins the nomination, McSame will be Prez, you dummy dems what that? Then get off your hi-horses and start backing Hillary or prepared for 4 more years of GWB politics! It's just that simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This won't happen. If the DNC does not stop trying to steal Florida and Michigan from Clinton, I will be staying home or voting for McCain.

If you want John McCain, support an Independent Candidate.

She's smart, she's savvy, and she would know better than to do this.

I support any concept that would further the splinterfication of the Democratic vote. Count me in as an Independent who would not vote for Hillary.

Do 1/3 of Democrats surveyed also have alzheimers?

Do they not remember how Clinton only won the 92 election because Ross Perot split the vote?

Do they know that Al Gore would have won the presidency in 2000 if Nader hadn't siphoned off some of his votes?

Seriously? 1/3 of all Democrats are that INCREDIBLY STUPID!?!?!

Further proof that we need to invest more in public education.

She should do it....
Then John McCain can sit on his 'Dunking Booth' of a Presidency for 4 years, Hillary Clinton's name can be dragged through the mud as the ego maniac party divider she is. I'm all for it... Go Hillary ! You go girl !

Yes, Lets back Hillary as an independent so the the Republicans can win again. Hillary is d definitely selfish enough. Listen to any speech she gives, me me me. Hillary's no Independent, her corporate ties are just as strong as any Republican. I ask any person dumb enough to support Hillary to look at her voting record, which is extremely poor. Her work in the Senate was only to move herself in position to run for president, a position that she feels entitled to. If Hillary was an independent strong person she would have left Bill after his White House fiasco with Monica. We have had enough of political dynasties.Wake up and lets get a real change in the White House.

Maybe if we'd all vote our consciences rather than the more electable of the two evils...we'd be in a better place. If HRC runs as an Independant she can count on my vote. I can't vote McCain and WON'T vote Obama. Go HRC, you da woman!!!

Seems that might pose a problem for her in the Senate if she were to lose the election for President while running as an independent. She would not be able to count on staying in the Senate beyond her current term. Not that she necessarily could anyway, having trashed her own image, probably irreparably, in becoming little more than a street fighter in here no-holds-barred attacks against Obama. It would be a big chance she'd be taking. She would at least lose any majority committee seats she has acquired as a Senate democrat, probably immediately upon filing as an independent, and certainly damage any alliances she has going for her within the party.

I would vote for Hillary if she goes as independent party.

Chomper,
It was Nader and a bunch of stupid S Florida Democrats who accidentally voted for a guy named Pat that ruined 2000. And stop denigrating people with alzheimers. My father has alzheimers and I'm offended. Off to re-education camp for you.

Yeah, if she can't have it, nobody can. Talk about slash and burn politics. It's all about her isn't it? To hell with the country!

28% of the democratic vote that supports her! That's it. Against 62% who wouldn't, plus the Republicans, plus anybody who can't stand the Clinton! Ya sure Hillary supporters, you all push for that path! And yet, there are posters here that still think she could win the White House with that against her! Talk about being delusional! But, on the other hand, if it has been identified that the component that is holding back the Democrat Party from having any future is only 28%, then I say go for it. We'll make up the loss with the new, engaged, youth vote and the ever increasing amount of independent voters who tire of the politics that the Clinton's and the Republicans represent. Eventually, over time, that part will disappear into obscurity, and we'll finally be able to move on as a party. Sometimes, when the goal is just, short term pain is acceptable for long term gain.

I don't think I denigrated ANYONE for having Alzheimers. It's a simple medical fact that Alzheimers patients have poor recall of recent events in their lives. Apparently Hillary supporters do too. And the Florida votes would never had mattered if Nader hadn't run and sucked away those votes from Gore.

DUH!

Sorry for offending you by drawing a parallel betweeen people with Alzheimers and Clinton supporters. I meant no disrespect to the Alzheimers patients.

Like many Americans, I too would support Hillary , since she is the best choice of the three. And also for the holier than thou among us here, after the things that Obama and his cult have said , I have no other choice. You do not support those that disparage you. Maybe I am just bitter or racist.

GO INDIE HILLARY! If the DNC and Howard Dean dis the folks in Florida and Michigan -- GO INDIE! Your supporters will stay with you all the way to the White House !!! HILL YEAH!

It's quite obvious people Hillary supporters who won’t vote for Obama really don’t like Hillary's plans as both Obama and Hillary have almost identical plans – are you voting on the people again and not the issues? Isn’t that what got us into Iraq in the first place? We voted for someone we could see ourselves having a beer with instead of someone who had a plan for the country. Instead we would like to vote to continue a war in Iraq that had nothing to do with terrorism. I suppose some of us must not have children, or they must be over the age needed to serve. More war is coming your way! And the Chinese will be glad to fund it like they have been funding the Iraq war (est. at 1 trillion so far). It must thrill some of the McCain supporters to see your neighbor's kids and families destroyed by the Iraq war; legless, armless, disfigured kids coming back traumatized committing suicide – all because of a huge lie perpetrated by a few extremely rich white men who are “on the other side of the isle” of Obama and Clinton. Some of these people must really be looking forward to more of these kids; I wonder if it pleases them see American kids like this? It seems a little sadistic.

Are some people afraid of liberalism? Socialism? Maybe some of you haven't noticed, but Western Europe where the base of America came from has a higher standard of living. And a stronger currency; we will be sowing Nike’s in the homeland soon working long hours to pay for food and gas – we won’t be able to afford the Nike’s after all, they will be shipped to the developed parts of the world. It must thrill you. Those pesky Europeans, with a stronger currency, free education, free health care, a social net if you happen to lose your way to pay for things – free retraining if your job is lost, 6 weeks of vacation a year – imagine that! How lazy they must be to have a 6 week vacation! Oh and did I happen to mention they are more productive than their US counterparts? See “US keeps world productivity lead by working more” – Reuters article, September 2007. It’s becoming increasingly hard for Americans to travel to Europe or anywhere else in the developed world as their dollar buys them a lot less. Instead, tourist hotspots like New York are now accepting Euros as a form of payment due to the decline of the dollar.

Are some of you looking forward to working in pesos? Because the America we love will soon be the equivalent of the Mexico and China us Americans looked at and laughed at for working meager jobs for little pay – just enough to put food on the table.

Liberalism and socialist ideas won’t touch your income. Do you happen to make $150,000? How about $200,000? Most of America makes around $35,000 a year; and has to pay for health insurance; how much is the health insurance these days? How about those medications? The insurance companies and pharmaceuticals sure love those Republicans. Want an education? Sorry it costs; and it costs a lot.

Have those McCain people been to a top notch University recently? You’ll see a lot of Asian, Indian, White – but none of them are Americans, even the White’s are European. Have you seen major research papers published by Americans with non-foreign names and accents? I see Chinese names, Indian, French, German names in the Engineering and Science fields – the fields that provide us with the jobs we need. But where are the Smith's and Adam’s?

Don't vote for Obama. Vote for McCain and more tank plants in your area. The Chinese will welcome funding another war. And you'll enjoy paying $10+/gal and waiting to hear the news about your child in Iran – is he dead yet? Will he come home with arms – whatever appendages he’ll have left over, I hope they’ll be enough to work the rest of his life to help pay back the Chinese for the debt we’re getting ourselves into playing hero in the sand in the Middle East. Maybe Bush and Chaney should go to the beach – it would cost us a lot less, and they can build lots of sand castles (and demolish them to their hearts content) there instead. The dollar is sinking; the American population cannot afford health care, or education. It’s hard to see the full ramifications of it yet – it’s most apparent in food prices, but all the other goods will start showing these price hikes as well. I was in line at the supermarket the other day and I stared as an employee came by and started ripping the price tags from under items - $0.99 for a pack of gum, wait the new tag says $1.39. Hey wait a second! Bread was $1.99 a loaf – why are you replacing the tag with one that says $2.49? Vote McBane! He’ll help you afford everything your heart desires and your American dream will be complete.

Oh, and I hope if you don’t already have a house, you’ll be able to afford one.

Regards,
Paul

To PMac, She is alread 21 Mil in debt. Looks like mismanagement and an inability to attract enough money to complete properly.

obarmy can't win....
with the present concerns, hillary may even win as an independent.

regards...

Ha! Those posting for an indy Hillary run are really republican lurkers. Don't let them fool you.

They have a description for a move like that.

Political Suicide.

1.) She cannot possibly win as an independent. Read and interpret the article. Obama gets his votes. Hill gets hers. McCain gets most of the republicans. Winner = McCain.

2.) She will forever scar herself for betraying the party she claims to have loved. She will scar the Democratic party for putting faith into her. She will not be welcomed back with open arms.

You Hillary supporters are all uneducated white people. (Hillary's words, not mine)

Think about that.

"IF she gets out, it will be on her terms and for her reasons, but I don't see any reason at all why she shouldn't fight all the way to the last vote at the convention."

-----------------------------------

Precisely why she should get out now, for her it is all about on her terms for her reasons. Exactly, could not have said it better. You know what, if she ran as an independent, she would not have the fund raising capacity to lead a challenge. She definitely would take some votes from Obama, but perhaps as much or more from McCain. It might be fun to see her totally crash and burn because its better she does it on her own than while trying to lead America.....

Hillary is de chick! She's got my vote!

I would vote for her if she was an independent. Obama isn't going to beat McCain.

Go Hillary, voters in Florida and Michigan will not be disenfranchised and will gladly support you.

This is what I have been thinking for some time now. I think that she would get the women vote and the "Senior Vote". I think that she would win the "popular vote".

However, With Hillary in as a indepdent, I don't think either Hillary, Obama or McCAIN will get the 270 delegates to win. So this then would go into the House Of Rep for them to decide. What an interesting historic event that would be!!!

Can we get a group to "DRAFT HILLARY"???????

The person who would have a legitimate shot at an independent run is Obama, were he denied the Democratic nomination. After all, he's the one with the 1.5 million dedicated individual donors and grassroots organization in place in almost every state. I'm quite certain that party bosses are aware that Obama in one campaign season has put together an organization that out-raised, out-flanked and ultimately defeated the most powerful party machine candidate in recent memory. Even if they won't admit it, that's one reason why they won't take the nomination away from him and give it Clinton. Obama-haters can disparage him all they want, he has already accomplished something no one would have believed possible--defeated the Clinton machine fair and square all while maintaining an air of class and dignity. Amazing.

The Democratic Party disowned her for the unqualified candidate, OBama. Now it is time for Hillary to think as an independent. I am making sure all people I know would cast their vote for Hillary.

Go HILLARY.

I think Hillary would have a decent shot as an Independent. Two points though:

1. Would Hillary have enough financial and political backing? Enough to make it all legit?

2. Hillary would no doubt win California as an Independent, which would ensure an Obama defeat.

I have always voted Republican, but I could see voting for HRC as an independent. I don't think Obama is going to sway many more voters once they "get to know him" as he described. He, in fact, will likely turn off a few that already voted for him.
When the petition for HRC to be on the Missouri ballot, count me in. I'd sign it today.

Hillary's run as an Independent? Her avid supporters would love it. It would kill the Democratic Party's chances in the Fall. McCain would dance in the streets. The Clinton legacy would rival Charles Manson's and we would have atleast 4 more years of Bush-like administrations. The best way for Hillary to win, if she must, is to wait 4 to 8 years and run again. To Hillary's supporters I guess she has transcended from the first credible woman candidate for president to a God-like being lacking imperfection.

Americans are starving for a viable third party candidate. Clinton is the most solid candidate the American political scene has produced since Bill Clinton. Instead of voting for McCain, which a lot of Democrats will do if Obama is the nominee, Democrats would have Hillary as an champion. She would win a lot of independent-minded women from all parties. She would be the centrist of the campaign. We already know that she brings more electoral votes than Obama - a lot more. Obama lovers can have their liberal politician from Chicago, who will lose no matter what (the general election will open the floodgates on the real Obama), and the working people can have Clinton. The business class - a minority - will have McCain. Sounds like a good deal. Clinton as an independent may very well be the only strategy to keep McCain out of the White House. I'm telling you, if Obama is the nominee, and Clinton isn't on the ticket or giving working people an alternative to Obama, McCain will win more than the White House; he will win a mandate.

Women versus African-Americans! Are we REALLY surprised weve arrived to this level of analysis? I, for one (as a liberal white man), stand by my sisters. If you review the website for the leading organization for women (National Organization of Women) you CLEARLY see their choices to fight not only for womens rights, but the rights of African-Americans, gay people, etc (the sections are easily seen and identified). If you visit the leading African American organizations website (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) you do NOT find clear choices that support womens rights, gay rights, etc. Their subsections speak of youth, education, etc. but they dont seem to care for women or gays (not even black women or gays). The choice, while quite regrettable, is simply clearwomen have more broadly fought for a range of oppressed peoples while African Americans have not. As a pastor who cares about ALL people (and especially all people suffering from oppression) I must stand by the one who represent the hopes and dreams of womenand all oppressed peoples. I stand by HillaryHillary for President for 08! May God be with us all during this difficult time of discernment.

Hillary should run independent. She will get the pre Rev. Wright votes. I am sure that many of them have changed their minds about Obama. That is one vote they will probably want to take back. Go Hillary. I will contribute and vote for you as an Independent!! God Bless! I am praying for Hillary!

I want Hillary Clinton to run as an Independent! I will not vote for Obama! Why? Cause I can't stand Michelle Obama! I will definately vote for McCain. Democrats are so stupid! Why do we nominate the most obsurd candidates...Dukakis, Kerry? Obama has no chance whatsoever. When the polls start to shift....I will come back and say....told you so!
