Clinton's filly Eight Belles #2 in Derby, euthanized moments later

Sen. Hillary Clinton told local press this week she liked Eight Belles to win the Kentucky Derby tonight. Big Brown was the winner, but Eight Belles, the filly, came in second.

But any happiness from the filly's stunning come-from-behind rally was short lived — she broke both her front legs as a result of the race and had to be put down.

The horse came from way behind the pack but collapsed after taking second place. ESPN commentators immediately asked what had happened.

"There was no possible way to save her," a vet spokesman said on ESPN just now.

Chelsea Clinton is attending the Derby as a campaign surrogate for her mom, since Kentucky votes in the Democratic primary May 20 and many in the Indiana media market are following the race. Campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe also is there.

If Hillary breaks a leg and comes in second can we have her put down?

Wow! I hope the filly's demise do not reflect Senator Clinton's campaign.

The Clinton curse strikes again...

Eight Bells came in a distant second. Is Senator Clinton a serious handicapper, or did she support Eight Bells simply because the horse was female -the same as she expects women to vote for her because she's a female?

As a animal lover my heart breaks for the horse.

However, one cannot help but see the irony of this. Does this mean the Clinton campaign have broken there legs and we have to put them down.

I'd have given anything to see the look on Hillary's face when she heard the news.

You five, are sick, twisted people.
Not that you are interested in anything beyond promoting Obama for sainthood, and Hillary hatred, but these are the facts.
Eight Belles came from behind and ran the race of her life.
Barack Obama picked Colonel John to win the Kentucky Derby. He picked Pyro to place and Big Brown to show.
Does this reflect on his lack of judgement?
Oh, I forgot, his relationship with Wright already proves his total lack of judgement.
Hillary Clinton bet on the filly, Eight Belles, to win, place and show, which shows more judgement than Obama.

Cant we admit the obvious IRONY and the parallels between Obama (Big Brown) and Hillary (Eight Belles)?

1) Hillary will stop at NOTHING to get the nomination, even if it hurts herself and her party....

(A fine filly like Eight Belles will stop at nothing even if she breaks her own legs and dies.)

2) Hillary is madly trying to run with the BOYS in a race she will do ANYTHING it takes to win -- for the power and the glory and to prove she can do it no matter what the injury to herself or others.

(Eight Belles -- fighting an artificial turf and a herd of massive males, tried to win over the huge and powerful Big Brown)

3) Hillary wanted everyone to bet for Eight Belles to win (not to place) and everyone who trusted her lost.

4) The jockey tried to stop Eight Belles but she refused... until he heard a sickening pop and it was over.

5) The filly was fatally crippled, so they euthanized her. Will this happen to Hillary's campaign or her potential presidency? She has the will, but does Hillary have the strength to avoid going down at the finish line as well?

6) Was it the artificial turf that killed her?

I personally put my money on Big Brown and guess what... I won.

I'm betting on Obama. I don't trust Hillary's bedlamite character.

(This is not about WOMEN running for office -- Feinstein, Thatcher, etc.... it's about Hillary's bedlamite character and lack of soundness needed to finish the race alive and run the free world.)

Quoting Brian, a blogger on ABC:

The parallels are a little weird and I hate even bringing them up. Big Brown had only had only run three races and people were questioning his experience. Eight Belles was the only filly in the race and comes in second.

And last, a bit of interesting irony:

The term "Eight bells" can also be a way of saying that a sailor's watch is over, for instance, in his or her obituary. It's a nautical euphemism for "finished", Mr. and Mrs. Clinton. Were done with Bush 1&2 and were done with you. Retire already before you break your front feet off like the blessed filly running for the roses.

@Rick - I'm sure Eight Bells would have done much better if it wasn't for all that sniper fire.

Oh, wait.
