In an Obama America, we all get 50 'long weekends' a year?

A snarky birdie noticed Sen. Barack Obama's quote from his press plane yesterday about his non-vacation "two-and-a-half" day getaway to the Virgin Islands.

From NYT's Caucus:

He also disputed the notion that his trip was a vacation, given that it lasted two-and-a-half days. "It's a long weekend that most Americans get about 50 times a year," he said.

Maybe this is just spite, since many of us campaign reporters haven't had a long weekend in months, but let's consider this.

Here's the Wikipedia entry for "long weekend," and a search for "long weekend" on thesaurus.com comes up with "holiday."

The other acceptable synonyms: anniversary, break, celebration, feast, festival, festivity, fete, fiesta, gala, gone fishing, holy day, jubilee, layoff, leave, liberty, recess, red-letter day, saint's day, vacation.

There are 10 federal holidays, and presumably most Americans take some long weekends just for fun each year.

But 50? "Spoken like a true man of the people," my birdie sniffed.

Surely he was "misspeaking."

wow....get a life.

I hope the 20% of the Clinton supporters that won't vote for Obama when he wins the primary election will go back to being right wing of the Republican party where they belong...

For the other 80%, please get on board with us and help us end this. We know who won this fight, it is time to start the healing and get behind this wonderful candidate! Please take another look at Obama...it isn't like switching teams, we are all Americans. "if you cannot change your mind, you cannot change anything!"

These special interests don't stand a chance against the over 1.2 million small donors that Obama has. Help our party grow that database and be a part of the Calvary that takes America away from those special interests! After all it is all about the Supreme Court Justices, if McCain gets in, we are going to have some pretty tough laws to abide by.

There are some people who are willing to give up their lives for the good of this country... then there are some people who cannot even give up their obviously lost nomination for the good of the country...

G O H I L L A R Y ! ! ! !

If this is the best you can do on your blog, could I have your job? Surely, even as a disabled person who doesn't get out much, I can find more to write than your cribbing from the NYT's Caucus and Wikipedia and Thesaurus.com!

Only someone with too much time on her hands could come up with bashing Senator Obama on the use of the term long-weekend. I'm certain for the year+ that he has been campaigning 2.5 days seems like a long-weekend to him. The rest of regular America also gets 2.5 days off per week, if you count Friday night as the beginning of your weekend, especially for the purpose of flying a couple or so hours to your destination and again back home.

See, I've written more and I didn't have to reference another blog or a thesaurus or Wikipedia.

Sheesh, talk about picking nits.

Did you have a problem with my posting????

I guess my earlier comment didnt get posted. Seems as if crticism as the point of this article to begin with is frowned upon. I will say it again, and see if its posted. This article isnt worth the paper it COULD be printed on to do things with in the privacy of my own restroom. Again, nothing personal, but i am sure that my comments are enough to ensure they will never make the board. Is it beyond th pale to post such a response to such a silly topic?

Obviously, you are a Clinton supporter. I suppose that you have no problem with the $20,000,000.00 that Bill the shill received from United Arab Emrites. Do you think that the Clinton's owe any favors??

obama and his supporters always talk about fairness. how can they declare victory in the third quarter of a basketball match. WE ARE YET IN THIRD QUARTER. ARE THEY WORRIED THAT REV WRIGHT AND TONY REZCO SAGA MAY SINK THEIR BOAT SO THEY ARE HURRYING TO CLOSE THE RACE.
WHAT ABOUT MILLIONS WHO STILL WANT TO VOTE. IT IS THEIR AMERICA TOO.THE SHEEN OF OBAMA POT IS VANISHING EVERYDAY AND VERY SOON WE WILL SEE THE UGLY POT. WE WILL SEE REAL OBAMA VERY SOON WHO IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BAG OF HOT AIR.
