As some of the ice here in Iowa begins to thaw, I have a story up this morning about former President Bill Clinton and his potential role in his wife's administration if she ends up winning the presidency. Voters at every stop ask him if he'd give her advice, and most say they are comfortable with the idea of a former POTUS sharing the White House with a new one.
Clinton is making news in other ways today, with a few stories looking at his wife's slide in some state polls. The NY Daily News has him frustrated and ready to take charge of the campaign. The Des Moines Register introduces readers to the man behind the robot heckler who interrupted Clinton's speech Monday night in Iowa City. Turns out it's a college professor known for his disruptive pranks.
Also of note, there's been a lot of discussion lately about whether Iowa college students who are from other states should be allowed to participate in the Jan. 3 caucus. Clinton got two questions about this Monday. Here's 3 minutes of raw video from the former president answering the question at Grinnell College, telling students to search their conscience for whether that's acceptable and if they "honestly spend more time here than at home." His argument is that the caucus process already "disenfranchises" some Iowans, including guardsmen and reservists who aren't allowed to participate absentee.
Finally, Brian DeBose and I have a story in today's paper about the variety of competing polls out there and the dueling electability arguments from each of the Democratic campaigns.
I will be on the campaign trail with former Sen. John Edwards most of today, so it's probably going to be a light blogging day. But Stephen Dinan is in Des Moines and covering the Republican debate. I'll be there tomorrow as the Democrats meet for their final debate and make their closing arguments to caucus-goers.

Bill Clinton is the ultimate 'spinner'. His only concern with the military is votes. Just ask LTCOL Buzz Patterson. Therefore he has to really dig deep to have any credibility with regard to the reservists or guardsman. He and his wife are control managers. They want control of the dialogue. Using polls from Iowa college students helps limit the opinion to be addressed from that field. Adding questions outside that field pose a threat to their control strategy, therefore he will address their Iowa state patriotism conscience by using a group from Iowa he has never shown any concern for, the military. He could always get a job in a rerelease of "The Rainmaker".
